Chapter 2

The morning went by quickly, it was now lunch time.  I was waiting in line to get my food and man was I hungry.  It was the only place I could eat without having any restrictions.  When I ate at school, when I was done, I wasn’t hungry anymore.  Unlike at home, I couldn’t eat too much if I did the next day I would find myself being hungry all day.  That would happen a lot on weekends, but I got used to it.  I just drank more water so that my stomach would think it’s full.  I’d pee every 20 minutes but that is beside the point.  Also, I tried to go to Laura’s house as much as possible on weekends.  She asked me a few times why I ate so much but was still skinny.  I just told her I didn’t have anything good to eat at home and I walked almost everywhere.  She had just nodded, but I could tell she didn’t believe me, and I was thankful she let the subject go.

‘Hey girlfriend! Whatcha eating today?!’  Laura came beside me to look what was on my tray.

She always made me laugh.  I looked down at my tray, I had a tuna sandwich, a Caesar salad, a fruit salad, a piece of chocolate cake, chocolate milk and a coke.  Ok so yeah I did eat a lot, but just to make her laugh, I saw a basket with apples and oranges in it. 

I looked at Laura while grabbing an apple ‘An apple a day keeps the doctors away’ I told her with a smile and she busted up laughing.

‘You my dear are so strange’ she said while laughing.

I gave the lady my school card to pay for my food.  My aunt always made sure I had money for my food here.  Even for at home but mostly for school.

Laura and I sat down at an empty table, but it wasn’t empty for long.  Our other friends came and sat down.  Matt was there, Crystal but she was closer with Laura and then Chris was beside me.  He was really nice.  He didn’t freak me out like most other guys do.  He gives me my space, doesn’t touch me and is always polite.  If I ever need anything, I know and he even has told me all I have to do is ask.

‘So Leah, are you going to James party tonight?’ Chris asked me.

‘Yeah I am, are you going?’

‘Yeah, do you girls need a lift?’ He asked, but at the same time looking at Laura.

‘Would you mind?  It would just be Leah and me.’ Laura answered Chris.

‘No sounds good, my brother is back in town so he’s coming also… pick you girls up between 9-9:30pm.  Is that good?  Does that give you enough time to look pretty for me ladies?’ Chris asked while laughing.

‘Sounds good’ Laura confirmed and giving him a wink and a little smile.

I turned to Chris, it looked like he was blushing.  I’m surprised they never got together.  They would be a cute couple.

‘I didn’t know you had a brother,’ I asked Chris.  ‘I’ve known you for about a year now.  You never mentioned him.’

‘Umm… Yeah, he was travelling for awhile, but got back in town.  He’s 3 years older than me.’ Chris answered fast but I noticed he didn’t want to talk about it.  I didn’t push, he was good to me so, I changed the subject. 

‘Well I’m excited for tonight, should be fun.  I’m in the mood to dance.’ I said and giggled at the same time.  Chris looked relived that I changed topics.

‘Me too!  I think it’s going to be a great night!’ Laura stated.

I looked around me and people were leaving the cafeteria and heading back to class.  I was excited, the day was almost over.

****I know the beginning is long, I didn’t want to have very longs chapters so I did shorter ones, so please give it a chance.  As you move farther into the story I promise it gets better.
