Ocean
Hello and welcome to another one of my books. I don't know how this is going to work out so, let's just give it a shot. Here we go. Roll cameras. Lights. Camera. ACTION!
My eyes opened to the whistle. The normal whistle of the morning. Then came along shouting and yelling. I moved my body on the small cot and sat up. The administrator was coming through again. Ugh. I looked around to see the other girls around me bustling out of their beds. I groaned and threw my head back on the pillow. I didn't want to get up. It was too early. I knew I was going to be punished for it. But if I could have 30 more seconds, I would be alright.
I suddenly felt my medium length brown hair being yanked upward and spun around to face the strict administrator. Here it is. I looked her straight in eye and gave a weak smile. She frowned and threw me out of my bed and onto the floor. I landed hard on the wood floor and looked up to see the other girls already in their rows awaiting orders.
"Get up!" she yelled at me. I quickly scrambled on my feet and fixed my posture to look like the other 14 year old girls. My bare feet rubbed against the floor. My body ached for more sleep and it took everything to resist. The administrator walked in between the two rows, which were in front of our beds. I kept my droopy eyes forward to the wall. I did not want to stay awake. The musty air of the room was not pleasant.
"You all are on dishes today!" she barked at us like a dog. She held a small clipboard and pen with her back straight and neat golden blonde hair in a bun. Her old glasses gleamed in the small morning sun. Her brown eyes glanced form victim to victim.
"Well, get to it!" she ordered. We rushed in our rows to the kitchen. We kept a straight line. My bed head and messy clothing stood out from the rest of the group. I was never sharp in the morning.
We made our way to the kitchen, and each of us grabbed a rag. I placed myself sleepily next to the sink and grabbed a plate off the table. I began to scrub it without thinking.
This is my normal day at the Inland Orphanage. Ya, I'm an orphan. I don't have parents. I used to. They died in a car crash 4 years ago. I didn't want to live with anyone else so I decided to go here. I thought it was a nice place at first, but it's not. Every morning, we have to wake up at 8:00 and do some sort of chore. It can be anything from dishes to painting. Then we get a break for lunch and we continue until 5:00. Yep. That's my day. After that we have free time until we sleep. It was so boring at the orphanage. Now that I'm thinkng about it, I wish I had parents. Mrs. Heffwire, the administrator, she is in charge of all the kids. She is really mean. I hate this place. Its surrounded by a fence. We have a little playground that we hang out on. I just wish I could have a normal family.
"Ocean!" I heard my name and it dragged me out of my thoughts. I looked over form my scrubbing to see my friend, Ruby, come over to me.
"Ocean, what are you doing? are you still tired? I saw what happened back there."
"Didn't everybody?" I replied. She didn't respond but just looked at the floor. Ruby was my only friend at the orphanage. She was my age, with short brown hair and blue eyes. Suddenly, Ruby sighed.
"Ocean, you're washing the dishes wrong again." I looked down to see I was still scrubbing the unwashed dish. The crumbs had collected on the rag but the dish still had grease all over it. I rolled my eyes and ruby took my wrist. She dragged me to the faucet and placed my wrist under the water which made the plate get wet. The white platter shone as mini bubbles ran along the platter and dropped down into the old sink.
I brushed a stand of my gold highlights out of my face. Once the plate was done rinsing, Ruby offered to take it for me. I nodded great fully and sat on the time floor. One of the other girls were sweeping and I had to move to another location on top of the counter. I laid get lay down, but then sat up after my bruise on my rib cage started hurting. That was when Mrs. Heffwire shoved me into a bookcase for talking in the library.
I sat and stared at the ceiling in thought. The sound of the faucet was shoothing to my ears. The kitchen was always moving around with people as I slumped on the counter of the table. My short pajama pants were slightly torn from use. My green tank top had one strap missing. I managed to keep it up because it was small on me. Yeah, the orphanage didn't supply clothes for us. Occasionally some one would donate some, but it would rarely fit us.
I sighed in thought as I continued to help out with the dishes until break.
