Chapter Three

Anjolaoluwa stared at the woman on the bed with bandages on her head and legs.

She felt amazed. My twin. This is my sister, my twin sister, she thought. The sister she'd lost three days after they were born, she found her. She was just so amazed but still in disbelief.

She'd gone for a youth program at her friend's church and had also ministered in songs there. On her way back, she'd decided to visit her mom's sister who lived close to where the church was located.

She'd been singing and appreciating God for His manifestation during the program when suddenly someone jumped to the front of her car on the road and the person was hit badly.

She'd felt so scared and had rushed out of the car to check the person. When she'd seen the face of the person on the ground, she'd been shocked and dazed and fear had left her.

She didn't know how she'd carried the woman and had driven to the hospital. All she knew was she got to the hospital and it was only after the woman was rushed into an emergency room, that it clicked in her mind that the woman was like a mirror reflection of herself and very possibly might be her long lost twin sister.

When the woman was saved and stable but still unconscious, she'd gone to see her in the ward. She had a small birthmark close to her navel on the lower part of her stomach. It was a family birthmark. Her mother had told her that she'd also noticed it on her twin sister when they were born. She'd checked for it on the woman's stomach and had seen it there. That was when she became sure and had called her parents to the hospital.

This was her twin sister. No mistake about it.

****************

Why am I not dead yet?

Aanuoluwa felt pains in her hips and head as she regained consciousness. She opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was the white ceiling.

"You're awake?" someone said beside her.

She blinked and looked towards the person.

She saw a beautiful woman who looked like she was in her late fifties beside her. The woman had tears in her eyes and she was trying to smile.

"My daughter," the woman said with tears falling from her eyes.

"Who are you?" Aanu asked weakly. The woman held her hand on the bed and started to cry.

"I'm your mother. Your mother"

Aanu couldn't understand what she just heard the woman say. Mother?

The woman wanted to continue talking but she was interrupted by two people who walked into the ward.

"She's awake. Thank God" a man said as he walked towards the bed with a woman behind him.

He looked like he was in his early sixties and he stared at her with gentle eyes. Aanu looked at him feeling confused.

She looked at the woman that followed him in and she was shocked. She remembered. This was the person she saw before she became unconscious, the person who probably hit her; the person who looked just like her.

"You're awake, my sister" the woman said.

"Sister?" Aanu said staring at her.

The woman moved to her and smiled with tears in her eyes.

"You're my twin sister. We're twins"

It took a minute for Aanu to register what she heard. Sister? Sister? Twin sister? That was what kept running through her mind.

She didn't understand at all. Since when did she have a twin sister? Why did this older woman call herself her mother? She was an orphan. She only had adoptive parents and Aunty Jemmy but they were dead.

"I know you don't understand," the man said. "We're your parents and this is your twin sister. You were stolen from us three days after you were born."

"Stolen?" Aanu said surprised. "Are you people sure of what you're saying? I look just like her and you believe we're twins?"

"You have a birthmark close to your navel. I do too. Dad has too. It's a family birthmark." the girl said. "I'm your sister. We can take a DNA test to confirm but it's true"

Aanu stared at them, not knowing what to say. Just seeing this girl who looked just like her was enough to confirm their relationship not to talk of the birthmark they both have. She was shocked, amazed and speechless.

"I'm sorry my daughter. I am" the older woman said, still in tears. "How have you been all these years? I searched for you but couldn't find you. I'm just so happy I've found you. My daughter"

She's my mother. He's my father. She's my sister. So I'm not an orphan. My parents are still alive.

Aanu stared at them all and she didn't know what to say.

"I'm Anjolaoluwa. These are our parents, Mr and Mrs Oladele. We're your family" Anjolaoluwa said.

Aanu smiled a little and said weakly, "I'm Aanuoluwa"
