Tips For Choosing Good Names

Here are the admins with some great advice on how to pick a good name for these apprentices! (You can apply this when naming an OC, too!) I hope this helps you in your journey towards being a master at naming apprentices!

1
Reference some of the character's physical or personality traits. That is usually how leaders name their clans' apprentices, after all! This especially applies of you're trying to pick a prefix for a newborn kit, as the only thing you know about them then is their appearance and amount of spunk they've got.

2
Don't restrict your naming style based on 'what's in the books'. You might choose to be very literal with names, or have deep meanings behind each name you give, that's all up to you! But that's still no excuse to name them with human terms like electricity or angel!

3
Although referencing their traits is a good idea, make sure that you're not rubbing salt in a wound when doing that. It's like Brightheart and Lostface, sometimes you don't want to be too direct.

4
Try to choose names that sound pleasing. For example, Sedgecreek(a canon cat) is a nice-sounding name. Mistmint is not. It's on the verge of being a tongue twister. Although you may have a different definition of 'nice-sounding', you can choose whatever you think will appeal to the ears of most people.

5
Try not to choose a name that is too lengthy. For example, if you wanted to name a cat with the name 'Blueberrypaw', try not to give it a lengthy name like 'Blueberryfeather' or 'Blueberrystream'. Try to limit your names to 3 syllables. There's absolutely no problem with exceeding that, although it would be quite a mouthful and not very practical.
