Arc 2, Chapter 7

The Protector

Simmering runes illuminated beneath Seraph as he flung his hand back, nearly hitting Victor in the face. A crackling, opaque wall erected under his fingers, effectively shielding Victor from any possible danger.

Seraph crossed his arms, walking towards the vampire. The creature leered at him, shakily standing up and baring his teeth.

"I am protecting this human now, sir." Seraph whispered, impressive light gathering in his palms. "I am afraid I need you to leave."

"Well, I'm afraid I can't do that, you little twerp." The vampire hissed, reaching into his pocket and withdrawing a hunting knife. With a flash of surprising speed, he lunged at Seraph, sinking the blade into the boy's midsection.

Seraph looked unfazed, wrestling the vampire's clawed fingers off the hilt of the knife and jerking it out of his flesh, slinging the blade several feet away from him across the concrete.

"Seraph!" Victor shouted through his telepathic link, banging his fists on the magic shield.

"I am fine, Victor. Do not be concerned." Seraph said coolly in Victor's mind, not breaking eye contact with the larger man before him.

Seraph flung his palm outward and a white, searing beam of light shot of his hand, slamming into the vampire's body. He cried out in distress, clutching his singed clothing.

"I will say this again: Please leave." Seraph commanded, taking a threatening step towards him.

Hissing, the vampire sped out of the alley, leaving Victor and Seraph alone.

With a snap of his fingers, Seraph dissolved the barrier, the magic construct disappearing in a flash of golden sparkles. He turned and smiled at Victor, scarlet blood soaking through his tunic all the while.

The boy gaped at Seraph in horror, feeling tears well in his eyes. "S-Seraph! You're bleeding! We've gotta get you to the hospital!" he cried, shuddering. Victor had finally found a person he could talk to with ease, and he most certainly didn't want him to die.

"That will not be necessary, Victor. I told you not to be concerned, remember?" Seraph said, waving his hand and giggling.

A set of golden runes blazed under his body, making Victor stagger back in shock. He didn't recognize the spell, and the only symbol he could identity in the arcane script was a heart.

Wispy, ghost-like streams of magic floated around Seraph's fingers, the boy seemingly showing the spell of to Victor.

"Watch this," Seraph whispered, pulling Victor towards him with his non-magical hand. He touched the stab wound on his abdomen, and to Victor's surprise, it started to heal itself.

The magic acted as thread, weaving itself through Seraph's peachy skin and sewing the gash back together. Unlike mortal stitches, however, Seraph's spell left no obvious marks- only a small scar sat on his stomach now.

"Healing magic, it is cool, right?" Seraph chimed, beaming at Victor.

Victor blinked dully, eyes still drawn to the massive bloodstain on Seraph's outfit. "Um...like, do you need a new shirt or something...?"

"Ah, do not worry about that." Magic still swirling amidst his fingertips, Seraph held his hand over his former wound, and, miraculously, the blood started to dissolve from his clothing. Within seconds, his tunic was spotless.

Just like Seraph's blood, Victor's panic evaporated. He let out a sigh of relief, willing himself to smile at the strange boy.

Seraph grinned back, taking Victor's hand and shaking it heartily.

"It was nice meeting you, Victor. You seem like a very nice human." Seraph murmured.

Victor frowned. "Wait, are you leaving?"

"I am afraid so. My mother tasked me with protecting the inhabitants of this town, so I can not linger long." Seraph turned to leave, but Victor grabbed his flowing sleeve.

"No! Please don't!" Victor whimpered, feeling flustered.

"Victor, please, I can not-"

"You've gotta understand, I don't any friends! You're the only my age person I've talked to in in really long time! I want you to be my friend!"

Seraph paused, expression softening. "A friend, huh? I do not really have any acquaintances where I come from either... I will hang around a longer, Victor. Where shall we go next?"

Victor shrugged. "I've got to go to the grocery store."

Author's note- Vote and comment, please! EDIT: Played around with Seraph's dialogue. Took out the contractions to make him seem a little more alien. Ditto for the last chapter.
