Hey everyone, I'm @nick, once again here with a monthly product update.

We now live in a world with new story categories for writers and the Social Feed. While we await the launch of Show me less like this, which will give you more control over the recommendations you see on Home, let's take a look back at the Social Feed launch and how you've all been using it so far.

📖 The Social Feed report card

Since we launched, the adoption rate has been stable among all users, a positive sign that people immediately used the Feed and kept coming back to it over time. It's recently gone up in response to more items being added, which tells us we're on the right track.

We were a little concerned about users spending a lot of time scrolling, but not actually finding stories to read through the Feed, or that it might take time away from reading itself. We're happy to report that it hasn't reduced the time readers are spending doing what they came here for: reading. Instead, the new additions seem to have landed well with readers based on the data.

When we added Votes to the Feed, they quickly became the most-clicked items and had the strongest engagement of any Feed item we'd launched up to that point. Even when we added New Story Published, it didn't dethrone Votes. Comments, on the other hand, have left everything in the dust, getting clicked about half the time they appear. While that's probably not a long-term trend and may partly be due to the excitement of a brand-new Feed item, it's still incredible to see engagement reach those levels.

We're also seeing strong click-to-read conversion, with many Feed types sitting around 80-90% conversion. This means if someone clicks on something in the Feed, they're very likely to start reading. This is exactly what the Feed was built for: helping people discover stories through shared human taste, not just algorithms.

The Feed is also strongly correlated with retention. Maybe that means people who are already highly engaged with Wattpad are more likely to use the Feed. Or the Feed is giving you more reasons to come back and see what everyone's obsessed with. My guess? Probably a little bit of both.

Our goal with the Social Feed was simple: make Wattpad feel more alive. So far, the response has been encouraging. People are discovering stories, joining conversations, and finding new reasons to come back. That gives us confidence to keep building in this space.

In fact, we're not done with the Feed just yet. There's plenty more we'd like to add, and we want a precedent of continuing to improve features after launch instead of treating them as finished on day one (And yes, we still need to add the Publishing Scheduler to the app, we'll take the heat on that one).

This month, we're launching notification bundling in the Social Feed, a functionality that will also be applied to regular notifications in the future, so you're not overwhelmed by the number of updates on a single story, for example. The goal is to make the logic smarter, more relevant, and reduce repetitive clutter. We know many of you want better privacy controls and that's still upcoming, along with more Feed items to help make Wattpad feel even more connected.

🧠 Stuff we're exploring

For the future, we're exploring private Reading Lists, the ability to better search and sort stories in your Library, and having some early discussions around bookmarks. I dream of a day when you can collect limited edition bookmarks and show them off to your friends. Will I create a custom one for myself? Did I take the username @nick, which breaks the mandatory minimum six characters? Yes. Yes I did.

The genre profiles run by the @ambassadors, the @justwriteit profile, the Open Novella Contest, and community-run spaces like @dreamlandcommunity are all great places to connect with fellow readers and writers. We build Wattpad, but we're part of the community too. You can often find me in these spaces talking about updates, answering questions, and seeing what people are excited about.
