Night Chills

You do not hear me

You do not see me

You do not even know

I Am Here

I stand beside your bed

Silently

Watching

you

as you sleep

I touch your hair

You turn

I touch your cheek

Your hand goes to your face

I draw the breath

from your body

You cough

then wake

You stare at me

Eyes focusing

but do not see

You turn on the 

Light

You feel me

I know you do

LOOK AROUND

LISTEN

I am the shadow in the corner

The creaking in the floor

I am the wisp moving the curtain

The sound behind the closet door

I am the flicker in the mirror

The dimming of the light

I am the dripping of the facet

The sounds of the night

I see you 

Tremble

The Goosebumps rise

I can hear your heart beating

See the terror in your eyes

I will leave you now

In this uneasy state

Your mind in turmoil

Pondering your fate

I will always stay

Just beyond your sight

Sleep now

If you can

I will Return

Tomorrow
