she lay, gasping for breath

among the dirt and the grime

among the stench and rot

among the shit and slime

the mouldy bread

the animals dead

the potatoes mashed

the bottles smashed

the tampons used

the bills overdue

the tissues soiled

the kettle over boiled

secrets disposed

a dying rose

a life denied

a last tear cried

one last gasp

one last breath

now her story is told

a life never known

of a little girl
