Chapter 1
Bianca's POV
The day that changed my life forever started just like any other. The alarm clock went off, and I got ready for school. I made sure to look stylish, but not so stylish it was obvious I was trying to be. Then I ate a breakfast of eggs and waffles and my dad drove me to school.
My school is called International High, and it was created to teach students from all countries no matter what language the speak, but it never really ended up happening like that, and most of the teachers only speak English anyway. As soon as I walked into school, one of my best friends, Lyssa, ran up to me.
"Oh my gawd, did you hear? There's a new guy," she said.
"Really?" I asked. There hadn't been a new kid in forever.
"Yeah. he just moved here and he's starting today." Suddenly the bell rang.
"I'm gonna be late," I said. "Gotta go!" I ran off to class, thinking about the new guy.
My first class of the day is Science, which I hate because our teacher, Mr. Hart, never lets us do anything except for read our textbook. I got to class and found a girl named Ana in my seat. Stupid girl, everyone knows that that is MY seat.
"What do you think you're doing, Ana?" I asked sweetly.
"Um," Ana gulped, "Sitting?"
"Yes you are sitting. In MY chair too. Why don't you MOVE IT!" Ana shrank back in fear and scrambled to move to a different chair. I smirked and sat down, putting my feet up on the desk. Then the teacher came in with another person.
"Everyone, this is Marcus West. He moved here from California and will be with us for the rest of the year." Then, Mr. Hart stepped to the side and I got my first good look at Marcus. Kind of long, brown, hair framed his face, and his long bangs hung over his chocolate brown eyes. I moved on to look at the rest of him, and that's when I saw it. His left arm was tiny and twisted, grossly deformed, and suddenly he was ruined. It looked completely useless, and terribly ugly. Then, Mr. Hart ruined my day completely.
"Ok, Marcus, you should sit down. I believe there is an empty seat next to miss Bianca Jones." Marcus nodded and came to sit next to me.
"Alright class, turn to page 255 in your textbooks and begin reading," Mr. Hart said. Marcus got out his textbook but didn't start reading. Instead, he turned to me.
"Hi," he said. "Bianca, right? I'm Marcus, I'm from Cali-"
"Yeah, yeah, I heard the speech, now, would you leave me alone? I have work to do," I snapped, turning to the correct page in my textbook. He nodded and turned to his own textbook to do the assigned work as well.
Marcus was in my next class too, and the one after! Finally, the bell rang for lunch. At lunch I met up with my two besties, Lyssa and Emily, and we walked to the front of the lunch line. A few well-placed glares and the other students let us go first, as they rightfully should.
After we collected our lunch, Lyssa, Emily, and I walked to our table and sat down. To my utter shock and embarrassment, Marcus came over to our table as well.
"Um, hi Bianca. I was wondering if I could sit at your table? I have nowhere else to sit," he asked.
"Oh my gawd," Lyssa whispered in my ear. "Is that the new guy?"
Then, Emily saw his arm.
"Ew, what's wrong with his arm?"
"That's so gross," Lyssa agreed.
"He knew your name, don't tell me you know him," Emily said, sounding disgusted at the thought.
"Ew no. He was in all of my classes and the teacher made him sit by me," I told them.
"Um, hello?" Marcus asked.
"Oh, are you still here?" I asked. He blushed and walked away.
"Thank god," Lyssa sighed. "I don't think I could have stood one more minute with him around."
"I know, right?" Emily agreed.
Marcus's POV
I'd never felt more mortified in my life. I don't know why I ever did that! Stupid, stupid, stupid! Someone so breathtaking like Bianca will never want someone deformed like me. I was an idiot for thinking she would ever accept me. No one ever will.
