Chapter 2

I snuggle closer to the warmth. This is so comfortable. I haven't slept that well in a long time. The sound of someone typing on a laptop brings me back to my current surroundings. Please tell me that I did not just sleep on a person I just met.

I open my eyes and look up, to see Dante typing on his laptop with one hand while his other arm is around me. How long was I even asleep for? My alarm hasn't gone off yet so it must have been less than an hour.

Dante stops typing and turns to look at me. "Did you have a good sleep?"

"Umm... yeah. I did, thank you. Sorry about leaning on you and, uh, about you having to type with only one hand. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," I say, trying to hide my embarrassment.

"It was my choice. I thought you could use a shoulder to lean on. I'm happy that you had a good sleep. I turned off your alarm so it wouldn't wake you up. I hope you don't mind."

I gently remove his arm off me and look for my phone. I slept for almost five hours?!

"I am so sorry. Five hours?! I'm sorry I just dozed off and-"

"Relax. It's fine. And stop apologising for something that is not your fault. You are not weak so don't make yourself seem that way, ok?"

"Ok."

The rest of the flight is pretty calm. I spend most of the time watching some movies and Dante works on his laptop. He offers me another piece of gum as the plane starts descending.

When we are let off the plane, Dante walks with me to the conveyor belt with all the suitcases and we collect our own. He is on the phone with someone as I turn my phone off flight mode. Yep. Still no calls or messages. Hopefully soon I can get a new phone with a new number. I don't want any connection to my family anymore. They've caused enough damage.

"I set up everything for you. One of my hotels is near where Ian works, so you can have a room there, just in case you get a job at Ian's building. Is that alright with you?" Dante explains.

"Yes, thank you so much!" I exclaim, "I don't know how I could ever repay you for your help."

"Don't worry about it. I will also be staying in that hotel since it's usually where I stay. If you need anything, I'll be there. Come on, let's go. My driver is here to take us."

I follow Dante, dragging my suitcase with me, through the airport and outside. Wow. London airport is busy. Very busy. People walk in crowds and cars line the streets. It's chaotic.

We stop in front of a black limousine. Is this for him? He must be rich. What am I saying, of course he's rich. He owns a whole chain of hotels.

A man in a black suit is waiting in front of the car. As soon as he sees us, he takes our luggage, despite my objection, and packs them in the back of the car. He opens the door and waits for me to enter.

"Dante, I don't mind walking or taking a taxi to the hotel. You've done too much for me already," I say, turning to face him.

"Lexi, get in the car. I already told you this is no trouble for me. I'm just playing my part in society," he explains, like every other time. This man is too good for this Earth.

I step in the car and am amazed at the inside. I quickly sit down at the first seat, not wanting anyone to wait for me. The seats are all black and there is a T.V. There is a lot of room in the middle with a drinking station at the back. A black wall covers this part of the limo from the front, where the driver is.

"Would you like a drink?" Dante asks.

"Just water, please." He gets up and fills two cups with water, from the water dispenser, then takes a seat next to me. He hands me a cup and drinks from the other. I copy him and take a sip of water to quench my thirst. The ride is silent the whole way.

Once the car comes to a halt, Dante takes our cups and puts it at the back, while the driver opens the door for us. I step out of the limo and look up to see a fancy hotel. Very modern. There are many windows and the building is mainly a greyish-white colour with the name 'D-Hotels' hanging in big, gold letters at the top of the building. It's probably around twenty stories high.

The driver walks ahead of us, carrying our suitcases inside. I run after him to help him, but Dante pulls me back. "It's his job. Let him carry it," he says.

"But it's my suitcase. I don't want to trouble him."

"Is there any floor that you'd prefer to live on?" he asks, ignoring my statement.

"I usually like the lowest floor but anything would be fine, thank you. Also, how much is it per night?" I need to work out the cost of living. This new life of mine needs some preparation now that I know where I will be staying.

"I've got it covered. Don't worry about the cost. You don't even have a job yet. We'll talk about payment after you get a job."

Is he serious? Does he think that I will accept a free stay just because I don't have a job? "No," I state bluntly.

"No?" he repeats, raising an eyebrow at me and crossing his arms.

It's at this moment that I notice his attire. A black, long-sleeve buttoned shirt tucked into black pants, with a black belt and polished black shoes. The top button of his shirt is undone and his sleeves are rolled a few times. He wears a silver watch on his left wrist and a silver necklace, tucked into his shirt.

Wow.

"No. I'm not accepting a free stay, just because I don't have a job. I've saved money and I'm not different to anyone else in this world. I'm perfectly capable," I say, slowly getting frustrated.

And what does he do? He starts laughing. He actually laughs. Head back and full force laughing. I don't get why he's laughing.

"Trust me, sweetheart, I know you're perfectly capable. Ok here's the deal. If you don't find a place within a week and you are going to stay here, you can start paying. Fair?"

At least he's going to let me pay. "Fine. But if you go back on your word then I'm paying for this week as well. On that note, I need to call Ian. Do you mind showing me to my room?" I ask.

Dante leads me to my room, which is thankfully, on the first floor of rooms. There are about eight doors on this level, four on each side of the corridor. There is an elevator at each end. The doors are silver, needing a code and a key to unlock.

"Extra security," he says. At least he cares about his customers. He gives me the keys and the code to my door, then informs me his room is the top level of the building in case I need anything. Also, the laundry room and the kitchen on this level is the room next to mine. I thank him and unlock my door with the key and enter the code.

My suitcase is already inside, next to the bed. The bed is to the left of the door, with white sheets already fixed onto it. On the right of the door is a cupboard with drawers underneath it. I suppose that's the closet. The windows are from the floor to the roof, with white curtains that are currently open on each side.

Next to the bed is a small table with a lamp on it. Facing the window is a desk with a chair. There is an open door next to the closet. There is a toilet and a glass shower, as well as a marble sink and a towel rack.

This place is definitely more than an average hotel. The sun is about in the middle of the sky. Ian's office should be open. I take out the card that Dante gave me and dial the number.

'Ian's Job Seeking is currently unable to answer your call. We will call back shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.'

The robotic voicemail ends as I hang up the call. As I get off the call app, I notice over a hundred messages. No one ever messages me.

I open the messages to see photos of the view out of a plane. He actually remembered. I save his number to my phone because I hate seeing unknown numbers for a call or message. I send a quick text, 'thank you' to Dante then begin unpacking my things. I don't have much, but I place my clothes and shoes in the closet and drawers, then enter the bathroom and arrange the few products I have.

I have never had a skincare routine. I just wash my face with water twice a day. When I first wake up and before I go to sleep. I also don't use any extra products in the shower. I only have body wash, shampoo and conditioner. I also have a bottle of moisturiser but that is only for after I shave.

I don't dress to impress. As long as I'm satisfied with myself, then I'm happy.

Ring, ring. Ring, ring.

My phone. 'Ian's Job Seeking' is displayed at the top of my phone. Ok. Big breath. I answer the call and place it next to my ear.

"Hello?" I respond.

"Hello, this is Ian. How may I help you?" His voice is husky, but not deep. I haven't even seen him and I'm already attracted to his voice. Ugh what is with me and thinking every guy is hot in some way?

"Hi, I'm Lexi. I'm calling in search of a job. I just moved in from Australia and Dante, who said he is a friend of yours, recommended you to help me with that."

"Yes, Dante is a good friend of mine. More of a brother really. I can help you with that, just give me a minute to book you in for an appointment with me. Is tomorrow at 11:00am a suitable time for you?"

"Yes please, that should be fine. Do I need to bring anything with me?"

"No. Nothing is required except for you. How would you like me to contact you with the address?"

"Phone message please, if that's alright with you."

"That's fine. Is it the number you are calling from?"

"Yes."

"Ok. All done. Appointment for tomorrow at 11:00am. I will message you the location and floor. See you then, Lexi."

"Thank you so much, sir. See you tomorrow." I end the call and hold the phone to my chest. What I would give to hear his voice all day. It was so serious and husky. But hot. And soothing. I should have recorded it so I can listen to it on repeat. What am I saying? That's creepy.

I kind of adore the English accent. It's so hot and dreamy. Come on Lexi, get a grip on yourself.

I lie down on my bed, repeating his voice over and over in my head. Ian, your voice is amazing.

A knock on the door breaks me out of my chain of thought. "Who is it?" I call out.

"Dante. Can I come in?" Why is he here?

"Coming. One sec." I put my phone on the small table and walk over to the door and open it. Just as I'm about to greet him, my phone buzzes. A message. I feel famous today.

"Sorry," I apologise before walking to grab my phone. "You can come in." I unlock my phone and see a message from Ian with the address and floor of his building and the time of the appointment. He ends the message with a 'see you tomorrow Lexi :) '.

I imagine how he would say that in his accent and feel the warmth rising on my cheeks.

"Who is it?" Dante asks. I try to hide my smile and clear my throat to compose myself.

I turn to face him and reply, "Ian."
