This is how it went for months. I left comments on almost all his Insta posts, or well, comments on all the JinHit posts because let's face it, JinHit rocks. The glee and shock I felt whenever he would tag me in a comment on one of his posts, or even left a comment on one of mine never failed to change. Jungkook was a huge star and the fact that he noticed and took the time to comment made him even cooler. It was like he didn't let the fame get to him, he still really appreciated every person who left a (good) comment on his insta. It was frigging awesome.
The next day started like any other. Got up, got ready for work, and left my house with enough time to swing through the local coffee shop for a Blueberry tea with banana bubbles. Boba tea is my weakness, I can't help it. I had Jungkooks cd playing in my car and was jamming along, fingers tapping on my steering wheel to the beat of the music while waiting at a red light. The light turned green and I let off the brake so I could continue my drive when I felt a sudden jolt then nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Floating in blackness, feeling weightless. No sights. No sounds. Just the floaty, painless dark.
Beep..........beep..............beep
Sounds permeated the quiet. An annoying incessant beeping. Ugh what is that smell? I don't remember using bleach the last time I cleaned the house.
Hushed whispers, voices that sound familiar but I can't quite figure out who they belong to.
I tried valiantly to open my eyes but it was so bright in the room and the light was so painful. I finally managed to squint one eye open and look around. Ok well, I'm definitely not home. My room is way more colorful and not just white. God what is that smell and can someone shut that beeping noise up.
Looking around I see people sitting on the uncomfortable looking couch in the room, talking quietly to each other. The girl has long waist-length black hair with beautiful curls at the end, her childish grin aimed up at who I assume to be her mom. The older woman has straight light brown hair in a chic long bob, listening to the little girl with a small smile on her face, yet from the looks of it, she took whatever the child was saying very seriously. Whoever she is, she looks like a nice mom.
I must have made some sort of noise because they instantly stop talking and whip their heads around to face me. The little girls eyes light up, growing rounder and bigger the longer she looks at me and the older lady has a look of relief on her face now.
"You're awake. Finally. Are you in pain, do you want me to get the doctor?"
There's both relief and concern in her voice and I can't help but stare at her a second before her name finally comes to the surface. "Angie?"
"Well duh, were you expecting Santa?"
"What happened, and why am I in the.. am I in the hospital?"
"Yeaaaah, we're going to call the nurse in here ok?" Pressing the nurse's call button she sits in the chair beside the bed and pulls her daughter onto her lap. Jessamine.. or Jessa, that's her name. My niece. Why is everything so hard to remember?
A nurse comes in shortly after, pulling a stupid light pen out of her smock pocket and checking my eyes. She checks the machines and notes down all the numbers they are showing on my chart before looking at me with a smile. "It's nice to finally see you awake. You've given your sister more than a few scares the last two months. Now I'm going to ask you some questions and I want you to answer them. Take your time, we're in no rush ok sweetie."
"Um.. ok yeah." Two months. I've been here for two months?! What the hell.
"Ok. So do you know where you are?"
"Heh, judging by the room and the fact that you're a nurse, I'm gonna go on a limb and say I'm in the hospital." Stupid question lady.
"That's right. And do you know who these two lovely ladies are next to you?"
"That's my sister Angie and my niece Jessa." Again, stupid question. "What day is it? And what happened to get me here?" Yep, I have a few questions of my own lady.
"We'll get to that. Are you having any pain anywhere?"
"Well, the light is giving me a headache, other than that I guess I'm just.. achy? Now can someone tell me how I ended up here?"
The nurse turned around and flipped one of the two light switches, making it a bit darker in the room which really helped with the headache I was getting. "I'll let your sister explain the rest, I'm going to go get the doctor so he can look everything over." And with that she turned around and left, leaving me to look at my sister for an explanation.
"Spill it Angie. What happened?"
Heaving a sigh and running her hand through her hair she gave a look to her daughter before starting in on the story. Evidently, when I was on my way to work, almost two frigging months ago, some drunk idiot decided he could beat a yellow light and didn't. His light turned red, my light turned green and he hit me. Because he had sped up to beat his light turning red he was going a bit over the speed limit, and he hit the driver's side of my car. My car flipped twice before coming to rest upside down. During the rolling and flipping, I hit my head pretty good. According to Angie, I had bruises all over my torso from the seatbelt, my left arm was fractured, along with my leg and I had quite the concussion. Due to the damage the hit to my head caused, and the doctors worried about possible brain damage issues, they had put me in an induced coma for a week to monitor me and make sure I would rest and heal. Evidently, my body disagreed and didn't want to come out of the induced coma, even after the doctors pulling me off the medicine that keeps me in one. So here we are 7 weeks later, and I'm just now waking up.
I sat there quietly, so many thoughts running through my head that I couldn't pick one to focus on. 2 months? My car? Oh god my job? Who took care of my rabbit? Did I get fired? What happened to other driver? How am I going to pay for all of this? Ok who cares about cost, I'm alive right. Oh god is my electricity still on? Thank god I own my house. Shit, now I have to find a new car.
"Relax. I can hear you thinking over here. Pick one question and ask, we'll go from there ok?" My sister you guys, once a mom always a mom I guess.
So I did. I picked one and asked. Then another. And another. Until the questions spewed from my mouth like a waterfall. She sat there quietly and patiently, something she was good at until I was done, and then she started to answer them.
"Yeah 2 months. You scared the hell out of me and I would appreciate you NOT doing that again. Your car is totaled, not that I would let you drive it again even if it wasn't. As for the other driver, he's fine evidently. Thankfully he has insurance and the police report totally shows him in the wrong. Not to mention the multiple witness reports. So you're going to have a hefty check from his insurance. It should be more than enough to cover the hospital bills and a new car so don't fret about all of that. As for your job. Have I told you lately how much I hate your boss? Always have, and this didn't help any. When I took the police report up to him, to let him know what happened, he wanted to fire you. I raised such a fuss right there in the lobby of the building, telling him that if he fired you I was going to sue his ass for wrongful termination. Then I grabbed him and marched him to Human Resources and told the lady there exactly what just happened. I handed HER the police report, told her you were still in the emergency room, not awake, and explained what was going on. She said not to worry, there was no way your boss could fire you, sent you her sympathies and well wishes, and asked to be kept informed of your progress. Now her I like, she should be the one running that place. She suggested putting you on a paid medical leave, but let me know it only lasted for 3 weeks. Not knowing what was going to happen with you, but knowing you had bills I went for it, and since you weren't... awake, she let me sign for you. So you had at least 3 weeks of money coming in. I kept the lights in your house off except for 1 light, I brought Kooky home with me and we've been taking care of him. Thanks for that by the way, now she wants a bunny too. I think that was all of the questions right? Oh, I paid your cell phone bill too. I went ahead and paid 3 months on it since I knew you would be needing it. That thing didn't shut up for weeks. It's gone quiet except for the odd chime every now and then, so have fun answering all THAT shit."
Jessa had been sitting there quietly, just listening and observing, something I remember her doing a lot. She threw me a grin when Angie mentioned Kooky, a devilish grin that let me know she had been working incessantly on her mom to get a rabbit of her own. Then she scooted off her mom's lap and on to the bed next to me, carefully sitting along my right side her little hand reached out and wiped the tears I didn't know I was crying off of my cheeks.
Eventually, the doctor came in, checked all the notes the nurse had left in the charts, asked me the same stupid questions the nurse did before saying that my arm and leg, both of which were in casts, had been healing nicely while I was "asleep". Now that I was awake, they wanted me to stay for a few more days so they could take more tests now that I was coherent before I could leave. A while later my sister and niece left too, that's when I grabbed my phone. What came after is quite the adventure.
AN. Ok so having gone through it with my grandma, I know that medically the character would have had a feeding tube of some sort since she wasn't able to eat on her own, but for the sake of her being able to ask and answer questions, I didn't put one in here. Please don't come at me for that :)
