Given Up (Ava)

{Based off an RP with DragonWriter664, Ava is a little baby found in the forest by Bane and Jarael, and she quickly brings light to their life. Unfortunately, her past is not that happy...}

"No! No, you can't take her!"
The woman's sobs echoed through the small village as she followed the men outside her home, struggling to pry the squirming bundle out of one's hands.
"Please, please, I beg you! She's done nothing wrong! She's inno-" A sharp backhand sent her to the ground, and she cried weakly, blinking away stars as her baby started to wail.
"You know our rules," the man growled, frowning down at her. "Our laws demand this."
"Your laws are horrible," she countered, anger and grief mixing on her face. "How dare you!" The group of men laughed at her words, and the leader shook his head.
"How dare I? You are the one who decided to spawn this-this thing!" He looked down at the snotty, tear-stained face of the baby in his arms and scowled. "It's an abomination, and you know it."
The woman stood up, clenching her fists. "She's innocent! You wouldn't harm a child, would you?"
"No, that is why I'm letting nature take its course on this child of the devil." The man took a basket his companion gave him and dumped the baby inside, earning another sharp cry from the infant.
That set her mother off, and her eyes burned in fury.
"I won't let you take her!" she cried, and the other men cursed as glowing magic formed in her hands. She reached out her hands towards the leader, beginning to shout out a spell-
There was a sharp twang, and she jerked backward, an arrow buried in her chest. Her eyes widened as she stared down at the thin wooden pole sticking out from her body, then she fell to her knees.
"No..." she whispered faintly, watching as the leader gave the basket to one of his men, who glanced over at the woman with a mixed expression before mounting his horse and starting to ride away, taking her screaming child with him.
The leader drew his sword, walking slowly over to the woman. "How does it feel, knowing that you have brought this on yourself?"
She stared up at him defiantly, tears streaming down her face. "I curse you," she said, her voice shaking as a faint glow shone in her eyes. "One day, my daughter will be back, and she will bring you nothing but pain. You will not die by her hand, you will die in the jaws of a wolf." She closed her eyes, smiling to herself as the man brought down his sword and ended her pain with the cold touch of steel.

Pulling a hood over his face, the man dismounted and started walking towards the woods, looking down at the baby in the basket. She had since calmed down, but was still sniffling weakly.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered, wanting to hold her, but knowing that he couldn't. "Forgive me."
Looking ahead, he saw a group of people at the edge of the forest, and a spark of hope ignited in his chest. Perhaps she would be safe among them? It was a risk he had to take.
Hurrying ahead, he approached the group and practically shoved the basket into the hands of one of them before hurrying away, blinking away tears.
Hopefully, one day, his daughter would forgive him for what he had done.
But for now, all he could do was pray that she ended up in safe hands.
