5 | A Calling

Lamont focused on Billy, "So, Jace, this is where you come in. We would appreciate, no, we need your help to fight and save our land – our whole world, for that matter!" Lamont was a very expressive man, gesturing his arms wildly to get his point across. "Cyrus has planned that you go back to your world and find 200 strong men. You are to bring them here the same way you came. All you need to do is go to the beach where the Killer Whales live, and swim out until you see them. Then the Great Killer Whale will swallow you into this world."

He had no idea how ridiculous he sounded, and Billy tried not to laugh at his preposterous instructions.

"Wait, are you serious? I just need to-"

"I'm not finished yet," Lamont scolded him as you would an impatient child, "So the Great Whale is the gateway to our world. You just need to keep afloat as the water will push you all through the Whale, and into this lake here. Then we'll organise an army and meet the Sea Tirites together! If all goes well, we will not be beaten and so we will not perish!" his exuberant smile showed just how much hope they were all placing him Billy, and how disappointed they'd be if he politely tried running away back to his home.

Roakin concluded the story with, "So, Jace, you do agree, don't you?" Again, there was an expression full of hope and almost pleading. Looks like these people really did need some kind of help, but Billy was sure it definitely wasn't him.

"Look, um, I'm sure you're all great people," he didn't know what to think or say.... "but, uhh..." These complete strangers were asking him to bring 200 men to fight and win a battle! Like, how would he do that??!! It was just a bit too much to ask! But then, on the off chance that this universe's existence was in his hands, the least Billy could do was agree to trying to help.

"Ok, I'll tell you what. If you let me go back home, I'll think about it. I'll talk to my family, my friends...but really, is there any proof you can give me? How am I supposed to convince 200 men to just come here and fight?" Billy searched their faces for an answer, for anything really that would convince him first of their plight.

Trymiar spoke up, "Why do you think the Great Whale chose you? You were sent here for a purpose! Cyrus has chosen you to be the help that our world so desperately needs. Look around you, is this not proof enough? Was your journey through the Great Whale just a dream? No, you're here, we're here, and as long as we have breath left we will keep on fighting and we need your help to save our world."

"Ok, ok!" Billy really did feel bad for these people, and he promised to go home and find some help for them. And if he couldn't get people to believe this crazy story, he'd just return himself and do whatever needed doing. The four governors helped Billy push his kayak back into the lake and solemnly waved goodbye as he paddled back towards the archway, back towards his home.

Meanwhile, far, far away, in another universe, something very different was going on. On a planet called Earth, along a coastline called Queens Beach, a little car was parked. Surrounding it were 2 police officers and 5 search and rescue officers, all looking for clues. All they had gathered was that a man in his late twenties had been missing for 3 days. His concerned parents had alerted police 24 hours after they last heard from him, telling them that their son had bought a kayak then failed to return that evening. Judging by the car parked at the beach, it was obvious he had gone out on the water, and depending on whether or not he had a lifejacket or water supplies, they were unsure how safe he would be if he hadn't already drowned or come back on land somewhere else. In fact, no one was even sure if he had even bought his kayak and taken it out a test drive/paddle/swim.

For the last 2 days, a helicopter had been searching a 10 mile area along the coastline, and patrols of officers were scouring the shore, but so far nothing had been recovered of the man's belongings besides his backpack on the sand near the water's edge.

Locals said that they had seen what looked to have been killer whales in the area near the river mouth, but had no photographic proof. Billy's parents and his friend Emily were so worried for his safety, and couldn't even begin to accept that he was nowhere to be found. They had been at the beach all day every day looking for their own answers, and held closely to his backpack and towel.

Now, as Emily sat on the beach and searched through Billy's backpack for the hundredth time, she decided to go through his phone to see if there was anything on it that might help. After swiping it open, she saw a photo of herself as his wallpaper. Did Billy like her this much? She wiped away a tear as she remembered the time he had taken the photo. As she looked through his other photos for more clues, she noticed that more than half of them were of her. Then she saw it, a photo of his kayak on the sand with the beautiful crashing waves in the background. Now they had proof that he did take it here.

As she was putting the phone away, she happened to look up out over the ocean and a saw a kayak paddling towards the shore. She lifted her hand, shielding her eyes from the sun, and thought the kayak looked heaps like Billy's she just saw on his phone. Then, strangely enough, as the kayaker drew closer to shore, she realised he looked heaps like Billy himself! Emily jumped up and took a few steps towards the water. She could see him clearly now, cresting the waves and paddling easily with his eyes facing the shoreline. It had to be him, with his brown wavy hair and determined gaze. She stepped closer, the waves splashing her around her knees making the hem of her skirt wet, but she didn't even notice. "Billy, is that you?" she called out over the white wash. The man looked her direction, and she waved and called again, "Billy, oh it is you!" She ran towards the kayak as he struck the sand in the shallows.

Yay, I'm so excited to introduce Emily!! <3
So, what do you all think? Is Billy's calling impossible? Should he try to help these complete randomers? Let me know in the comments, and don't forget to vote if you liked this chapter :D
