Chapter 11
June 29th
8:00 AM
Lance sat in his bed, looking at Laura, "So.. if I can flex my hand, and move my arm, It means it'll heal?" He asked. Laura nodded, holding his arm out, "Give it a try, hun"
Lance tried moving his arm first.
First try.. Lance held his breath as it wouldn't move.
Second try.. Lance gave up, sighing. He decided to try and move his hand.
First try.. nothing. He couldn't move it. He couldn't even feel it.
Laura sighed and gently set lance's arm back down, "Well Lance, hunny, I'm going to be back in here tomorrow to discuss ways of doing things one handed, okay? We will also talk about getting you out of here"
Lance began to panic, "My mom won't pay for me being in here. I don't have the money-"
"I'll cover it" Laura smiled sweetly, "Don't worry about it"
Lance gave a soft smile, and looked at his paralyzed hand. After a moments pause, he looked at her, "You think it would be harder to slap things out of Keith's hand?" He gave a humorous grin.
Laura let out a laugh, "Oh you are bad..! You talking about your boyfriend? His name is Keith?"
Lance felt a blush paste itself on his face, "His name's Keith, but he's not my boyfriend" lance frowned as he remembered what Keith said,
"Friends"
Laura rustled through the bag she brought in and pulled out a new sling, because the previous one had been broken (thank's to Lance's tantrum), and turned to him, "Oh hunny.. something happened, didn't it" She asked, sitting down and taking the old sling off of him.
Lance nodded, "Yeah.. he.. said he just wanted to be friends" he looked out the window, his heart throbbing. Laura gave him a sympathetic look, "Well, Im sure things'll turn out just fine" She gave him a smile, her eyes still showing sympathy.
Lance hugged her quickly, once she had finished putting on the new sling, and whispered, "Thank you. I hope so too"
At the moment, Lance was grateful. More grateful than he had ever been before.
Lance had never had anyone to talk to about his feelings. His mother never listened, nor cared, his dad was never home, and his sister was too stubborn and troubled with her own problems to listen to his, but Laura listened. She listened to everything lance had to say, and she replied with the most kind and sincere comments.
Lance was overjoyed when she told him that she would keep in touch with him, even when he was out of the hospital.

Keith walked through the hallways of the hospital, his computer in his hands. Calm down Keith. it'll be fine. calm down. Keith sighed and walked into lance's room, pausing as he heard Lance talking to someone. Keith tilted his head around the corner and saw Lance was talking on his phone;
"I know mom"
"yep"
"Laura said she'd cover it"
"Why would you say something like that to me..?"
By now, Keith's anger blazed in his chest as he realized Lance's voice had began to crack in sadness. He wanted to punch Lance's mom straight into the fiery pits of hell, but all he could do was stand and listen as Lance set down his phone, and whisper, "Why would she disown me so fast..?"
"Am I really this unloved...? my sister hates me, my mom hates me, my whole family hates me....?"
"What even is my life worth..? would anyone care if I left...?"

Keith finally built up his courage enough to walk fully inside lance's room. Once he was in he immediately set down his computer and hugged Lance. His mother disowned him!? that stupid little-
"She disowned me because she couldn't afford me" Lance whispered, "As if I was only a burden to her" he added, his eyes clouded and painful. Keith rested his hand on the back on Lance's head and pulled lance's forehead to his shoulder, "You are not a burden" Keith said firmly, breaking the hug and looking at him, "You are the most worth-while thing I've ever came across. you'd better get that into your skull, you hear me?" Keith said, the firmness in his tone slightly scaring Lance.
Lance knew in his mind what this was about. Lance knew this was about his mom telling him these things that make him feel like nothing, he understood now. I hope he didn't hear me whisper about if anyone would care... please tell me he didn't..
Keith looked at Lance and his heart twisted as he reached out and was close to kissing his cheek, but he didn't, and he only hugged him, blushing crazily. Keith wanted to cry. He wanted to scream at lance's mom, how dare she tell him these things? he wanted to punch Lance's sister for not being there, he wanted knock some sense into Lance and tell him he is worth it.
But he couldn't make a noise. All he could do with sit there, his voice caught in his throat, and his hand now grasping Lance's right hand tightly.
Lance hugged him close and whispered, "Thank you for being here, Keith."
