Zeus's Gift

When I reached the grand dining room the entire God’s but Hermes were loitering around the table. When I entered Poseidon turned and smiled.

“Ah, Adrasteia.” He turned to Zeus with an unsurprised look in his eye. “Brother, Hermes is not going to make it. How about we begin dinner.” Hera nodded in agreement. I think this was not an unusual occurence.

“Yes my husband, our brother is right.” Zeus said nothing but sat down. The rest of us followed sort. I was sitting in between Athena and Artemis. Apollo was across from me, Aphrodite’s doing I believe. I couldn’t help but observe his handsome features.

The room was mainly lit by low candlelight. I was embarrassed to find that this made Apollo even handsomer.

His hair glowed in this light and his eyes were a mix of happiness, worry, and intense feeling that made me almost blush. His facial features seemed like statues of granite, practically perfect. I forced myself to turn away before someone could notice my gaze.

Once dinner was served I was suddenly aware of the burning sensation of someone looking at me. I glanced around. My glance finally settled directly across from me. I was surprised to witness Apollo’s gaze quickly being adverted as I looked at him. He glanced up to see if I wasn’t looking anymore. I smiled a little at him. He couldn’t help but smile back. Then, Zeus captured my attention.

“Adrasteia, I’m sure you’re wondering what my gift is to you.”

“If it is allowed.” He chuckled. Now that I was immortal he was much nicer.

“You are.” He stood up. “Once Apollo finishes his round of checking on his oracles, we shall have ball, or party of some sort, celebrating the gain of our new goddess.” Hera turned and smiled at me. I smiled back,   “There, we shall have all the minor gods and goddesses. Do the rest of you think this is appropriate?” There was bits of agreements here and there around the table. But there was one thought on my mind.

If all the minor gods and goddesses would be at this affair, what about Nemesis? I looked at Apollo. He only glanced at me but I knew the exact same thought was going through his head. My heart quickened. Zeus didn’t notice. He was already asking Apollo a question.

“When are you and Adrasteia leaving?” Apollo cleared his throat.

“Within a month. But hopefully by the end of a fortnight.” It seemed so soon to me. But then again, I had, in one day, had come to live on Olympus with gods and become a goddess myself. I nodded at Zeus. He studied Apollo and I as if he was trying to figure out something. I avoided his gaze. As did Apollo. Zeus looked away.

After dinner I went to my rooms to relax. Artemis came to talk as I did.

“So,” She said as she shut the door, “You will have at least a few days alone with Apollo.” She was smiling as if she knew a secret.

“I know. Why is it such an important matter?” I had a hunch. But then she would have almost the same intentions as Aphrodite.

“He admires you.” Of course he did. He did invite me but could she be right? Could there be something more?

“I should guess so. He did invite me after all.”

“Yes he did. But he admires you very much.”

“What do you mean by that?” She laughed like I said something incredibly witty. That was a little frustrating.

“The silly boy has feelings for you.” That couldn't be true. He was a god.

'And so are you.' A tiny voice in my head said.

“He does not. Besides he is not a boy.”

“That is true.” There was a knock on the door. Artemis winked and said loud enough for them to hear,

“Come in.” To my surprise it was Apollo. Artemis smiled at him then turned to me, grinning wickedly.

“I better get going.” Before I could say anything she was gone. Now she was getting very frustrating.

“So.” I said timidly. Apollo blushed he slightest bit ever known to man. As did I.

“So. If it is fine with you, I would like to leave tomorrow. My father does not like waiting for his celebrations.”

“Of course. I will be ready.” He nodded and bowed his head, I curtsied and he left the room. I laid on my bed trying to sleep so I wouldn't be tired in the morning...
