A Silver Lining
Oh, how could I forget to write about the cutest little thing on the planet?!
My mom never lets me have pets. Why? She said we were enough hassle for my dad yet, his mom has three Australian shepherds, a Dingo, and seven horses!
Like seriously?! I know they're humans, but come on!
I did manage to get one eventually, but it wasn't your average pet.....
(Prism: age 8, March 1st)
"Okay, did you pack your lunch?"
"Yes."
"First aid kit?"
"Aquarius, we have a teacher-"
"Oh! Your bow is crooked! Let me fix it..."
"Aquarius! I'm fine. There's no need to get worked up over a field trip,"
In only three months Aquarius, turned into mom 2.0 -_-
"F-forgive me, Prism. I'm new at this whole 'big sister' thing. It's only been three months and I guess my instincts have already gotten out of hand..."
I smiled and readjusted my bow that hid my ears. "It's fine. Just chill out okay? I don't want you to scare away Ivy,"
"Ivy?"
"Yeah! She's my best friend and my packmate,"
Aquarius seemed suspicious at first, but replaced it with a happy smile. "Okay, she's not a demon is she?"
Good gods....
"Packmate, Aquarius. She's a full blooded Werewolf, her dad is my Ojīchan's Beta,"
"You mean Alpha? Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to be rude! I was just-"
"Prism!!"
"Ivy! Over here!"
Ivy squished past all the other kids and sat next to me with Aquarius on the far end.
"Is this your big sister you told me about?" Ivy asked. "Yeah, this is Aquarius. Aquarius this is-"
"Ivy Veronica Wolfgang. Nice to meet you!" Ivy held out her hand to Aquarius who just stared at it.
"You're supposed to shake her hand," I whispered. "Oh! Sorry, I dozed off for a second. Nice to meet you Ivy, I hope we can be friends as well,"
Ivy stared at me. "She speaks so formally and she smells like the ocean,"
"Silly! She's half Mermaid so of course."
"Really? Oh, can she give me swimming lessons? I really need to learn..." Ivy asked as she scratched the back of her neck sheepishly. Aquarius giggled "I'd be delighted to teach you. For now I think the bus is about to set off for Notre Dame,"
"Isn't that where Disney had that movie?" Ivy asked us as the bus took off for the heart of Paris. "Yeah, that movie was great! But, I prefer Beauty and the Beast..." I replied.
"I think Cinderella is a classic. What about you Aquarius?"
"Hmmm..."
Aquarius looked out the window where she stared at the beautiful French countryside. "I like the Little Mermaid,"
Me and Ivy sweatdropped, together we said "Of course, she would like that movie,"
During the ride we passed by many historical monuments. I explained most of what my mom told me to Aquarius, who was curious. We then paused our little history lesson when we heard Ivy sigh.
You know. Those sighs that Juliet makes every time she thinks about Romeo knowing she can't be with him. Or basically me every time I stare at Cory knowing he'll never notice me, but I patiently wait because, he has a good reason even though I'm fine with it physically, spiritually my inner wolf is like: Notice me Senpai! Please!! 😭😱
Then I'm like: We can't! He'll end up hurting us if Black Shadow takes control.
And then inner wolf is like: Please, Lucius was far worse than he was! He nearly ra-
Crap! I'm spoiling stuff again!! Curse my arguments with myself!....in a way. How do I lose an argument to someone who kinda is me anyway?!
"Ivy, what's wrong?"
"LucaAaaaaaaaa....."
Aquarius looked at me as I facepalmed. "Who's Luca? And why did she say his name like that?"
"This other Werewolf pup she's been crushing on since the 1st grade. He's not not even that cute..."
Wow. I sound like my mom xD
"He is not cute! He's beautiful!" Ivy protested. "Yeah, but you can't say it to his face..." I muttered under my breath.
"LUCA YOUR FACE IS BEAUTIFUL!" Ivy yelled towards the back of the bus making me and Aquarius cringe from the loudness. Luca smiled in confusion as his friends laughed.
"Um...thanks Ivy? Your face is pretty....too?"
Ivy beamed as her blush made her look like those innocent anime characters. "Aw! Thanks, Lulu!~"
"Lulu?"
Luca's face turned bright red as his friends teased him. Ivy sat back into her seat and leaned against my shoulder in her dream like state.
"Prism?"
"Yes, Ivy?"
"How does 'Mrs. Ivy Blaez' sound?"
"How does it sound to you?"
"Perfect."
"Of course."
You wanna know what's funny? My dad's name literally means 'Wolf Lover' in Irish. Coincidence? I think not!
We arrived at Notre Dame and oh my gods that place was a lot bigger than what the movie made me believe.
"Everyone, please stick together. You will all explore the cathedral together, so try not to wander off. Lunch will be served outside at noon," our teacher said as she led the way in followed by the students and various chaperones.
It felt weird. Having a Werewolf trespass on holy land like this, but then again we were creatures of nature not unholy beings like Demons and Vampires.
I still love Cory though. I don't wanna be married in a church, I'd rather have it outside with fields of flowers and valleys or we could be in a police car chase....
That sounds more fun :D
I mean just imagine him driving a fancy sports car or a motorcycle looking like a badass....
No. No, NO!! Stop it! Inner wolf stop screwing around with my hormones! You're lucky it's not March!
Thank Inari, no one reads this...I'd be so embarrassed. I mean the purpose of writing this is that in case something happens to me, they'll have something to remember me by. They'll know about the REAL me, not just the constantly bored Werewolf who craves some adventure in her life.
Especially my little siblings Holly, Briar Rose or Bri, Ash, and Rowan. They'd be all alone and they're still so young. Mom and dad won't always be there, if anything happens what are they gonna do?
Bri can't see so, she requires constant help. Ash and Rowan barely talk to anyone and Holly is scared of everything and she's mute. They cling to me like heck ever since Aquarius died, now they're afraid that if they let go they'll lose their big sister again.
Poor little scamps... I promise that I'll always protect you. That's the least I can do for being so far away from home.
Home. I wonder if everyone's okay....mom is probably going crazy from not hearing from me in a while. I keep telling her I'm fine on my own, but females no matter what you tell them with ALWAYS worry about their pups.
"It's so pretty!" Ivy's eyes glowed as we walked throughout the cathedral. I wasn't really paying attention much, unlike Aquarius and Ivy who were entranced by the history and beauty.
I was about to move on with the class before I smelled something strange coming from the bell towers.
"What is...that?" I looked up at the door which led to where the scent led me. I was about to sneak away before Aquarius grabbed my arm.
"Where are you going?"
"There's something strange up there. I'm gonna go check it out,"
"Can't you wait till we get up there?"
"Aquarius, what if someone needs help?"
Aquarius sighed before releasing my hand. "Fine. Hurry and come back before Ms. Drake finds out,"
I smiled and quickly hugged Aquarius. "Thanks, Aquarius. I can always trust you,"
She stiffened at the word trust before hugging me back gingerly, as if she was afraid she'd hurt me. Quietly I opened the door and ran up the stairwell, it was a pretty long climb, but thank gods Werewolves have a lot of stamina.
When I got up there, everything was surprisingly well kept. Except for the faint smell of blood...
I looked around trying to find the source while admiring the gargoyles. Some were in the shape of creatures known as Gryphons, a hybrid of a Eagle and a
Lion.
I tripped on something when I wasn't looking and fell. Luckily something cushioned my fall. I fell into a nest that was made by some type of creature, there was bits and pieces of jewelry which confirmed my suspicions of Gryphons living here.
However, there was no one there and the stench of blood seemed stronger. A little ways from the nest I saw the slaughtered carcasses of two Gryphons. A gasp escaped my mouth as I stared in horror. Their wings were cut off as well as their beaks. Some patched showed that they had been skinned and plucked.
I knew who did this and I was sure to tell dad when I got home. This was the work of hunters.
Back in the nest I looked behind me to see what I tripped over.
"Oh, great Odin's ghost..."
An egg. I crawled towards it and placed it in my lap to see if it was damaged. Luckily, it wasn't, but it was too dangerous to leave it here, those hunters would definitely be back if they left the carcasses here.
I opened my book bag and gently placed the egg inside. I took once last glance at the Gryphons.
"Don't worry. I'll take care of your baby,"
Without wasting anytime I hurried out of there and caught up with my class. Ms. Drake was still going about some boring fact, Aquarius immediately noticed my presence.
"What happened?"
"Some hunters killed two Gryphons. There was egg in the nest so, I took it in case they come back. When I get home I'm telling daddy, to figure out who did this. For now, I'm going to be its Mema,"
"Prism, it's sweet of you to do that, but how do you think your mother will let you keep a baby Gryphon in the house?"
I smirked. "Puppy dog eyes. Never fails,"
The egg remained unknown to everyone besides, Aquarius and Ivy. During lunch we discussed about what we were going to do with it. That's when I met another person who made an influence in my life...
"So, what do Gryphons eat?" Ivy asked as she bit into her peanut butter sandwich. I shrugged "I dunno. I guess fish since, it's a cat and a bird,"
Aquarius dropped her sushi roll. "Keep it under control please. I don't want to be eaten by some wild animal,"
We laughed and continued eating. I then noticed someone else sitting far away from everyone by themselves. It was a boy that was about the same age as Aquarius. He had black hair and ghostly silver eyes that seemed to pierce into my soul.
My inner wolf growled ferociously at him, but I shushed her. He continued staring at me and I felt like I was frozen under hypnotic gaze...
Aquarius growled at the boy who broke eye contact with me and looked away. He seemed so sad...
"Aquarius, what'd you do that for?" I whined. She looked at me with a serious expression and spoke in a cold tone. "Stay away from him,"
I really should've listened to her back then...
"Why not?" Ivy asked as she noticed who we were talking about. "I don't trust him," Aquarius said simply. Me and Ivy facepalmed and once again in unison we said:
"GIRL, YOU DON'T TRUST ANYBODY!!"
I grabbed my lunch and got off the bench. "I'm gonna go talk to him,"
"Okay," Ivy replied and went back to eating. "What? Prism, what if he does something to you?"
"Aquarius, he's a little kid just like us. What's the worst that could happen?"
LITTLE ME, WHY DID YOU JINX IT???
Aquarius tried to argue, but I had already walked off.
Little me turn around.
She called for me to come back, but I continued walking towards the mysterious, lonely boy.
Little me turn the FUCK AROUND!
He smelled like a Werewolf which was good. I wouldn't have to hide anything from him.
Little me you're about to get your own crazy, obsessed, yandere stalker if you don't turn around!
I smelled another scent on him. It was stronger and more muskier than his Werewolf scent.
LITTLE ME IF YOU LOVE CORY TURN AROUND AND oh wait I didn't know Cory back then.....FUCK!
Mema described this scent being of a.....
Oh my gods. I swear if Aquarius hadn't used Lunar Aura to trapped that fucker in Europe like now I wouldn't be here. That if Zia, doesn't free him....
Demon.
Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap! I'm so triggered by his name, but I have to write this....
"Hi, there! Mind if I sit with you?"
Please, say no....
The boy stared at me in a daze. "Sure....I don't....mind,"
My inner wolf whined and yipped for me to turn around, but I ignored her. "My name's Prism. What's yours?"
TRIGGERED, TRIGGERED, I AM SO FUCKING TRIGGERED!!!
The boy grabbed my hand and placed a light kiss on it like a gentleman.
Don't touch me you son of a bitch.
"I'm Lucius,"
Before I could reply, Aquarius grabbed me away from him and together with Ivy, we ran off.
"Aquarius!"
"We're going home now! I already called your mother,"
"You couldn't at least let me say bye?"
"No!"
I sighed and looked back at Lucius. I smiled and waved goodbye, a devious smirk stretched across his face as he waved back.
When we got home mom took me up to my room and had a 'talk' with me.
"Why didn't you listen to Aquarius?" She asked me. "I was just trying to be nice..."
"That boy is dangerous! I should've known Zia would've used him to get to you..."
"What does grandma have to do with him?"
"She is NOT your grandmother and don't ever let me hear that come out your mouth again, understand?!"
"Why-"
"WHAT DID I SAY??"
I started tearing up. I didn't understand mom back then, she wasn't yelling at me because she was mad. She was just worried. She just wanted to protect what she had left of her messed up family.
I felt the mattress move as mom climbed her way onto it, but she wasn't in her human skin.
"Prism, sweetheart look at me,"
I hesitantly opened my eyes to stare into my mom's winter blue colored eyes. "I'm not mad at you. I could never get upset at you just for trying to be nice, it's just that boy. He's not someone you should be affiliated with, his mind is filled with nothing, but shadows."
"Do you know him or something?"
Mom sighed as she looked out the window. "He's one of Lucifer's little golden children. Zia is just raising him to use him for her own personal gain. Not like his father cares for him,"
"So, you don't like him because, he's a DEMON? Mema, that's kind of racist,"
"I just don't want you getting hurt! I have no problem with Demons, I have some good friends who are Demons, but anyone related to Lucifer is a different story!"
"So? An enemy is just a friend you haven't made yet!"
"Look, I don't care who you're friends with, but if they're related to Lucifer in any shape or form they'll have to prove themselves to me. I don't want you getting used like I was,"
"Why does everyone treat me like I'm helpless?!"
"Prism, you're a child! It's our job to act like this!"
"It's not Aquarius's either! What's with you two?!"
"We're trying to protect you!"
"Well, I don't need your protection so, leave me alone!"
I jumped off the bed, grabbed my bag that held the egg and ran downstairs into the basement.
"Prism, I-"
"Go away," I growled at Aquarius who seemed heartbroken at my response. She ran off in the opposite direction leaving me alone in the dim room.
The sun was beginning to set casting an orange, flame like glow to the basement. I hugged the egg close to myself as my body shook from all the frustration I was letting out.
All these secrets. Why? What's the point of them? Why do they choose to hide everything from me? Why do they feel the need to protect me from something I can't see? I'm not a damsel in distress. I'm not the frightened princess. I'm not a little bird who needs someone help to fly. Yet, here I am crying.
I heard the sound of something cracking which paused my crying. I looked down and gasped at the egg.
It was hatching!
I took off my coat and spread it out like a makeshift nest. Gently I placed the egg there and watched what dad called: The Beauty of Nature.
The egg exploded into a flurry of shells as the body laid about on my coat. It had a cream and brown colored coat and sky blue eyes. It let out a chirp as it stared me.
It was automatically imprinted with me as it ran into my arms and snuggled against me, purring in content. I softly pet its head which made it trill and nuzzle me.
I giggled as it flapped its wings when I picked it up. "Okay, so you're definitely a girl. I think I'll call you.....Miia."
I was immediately tackled and pelted with licks. My giggles echoed throughout the room. I guess there was such a thing of a silver lining.....
************
"Prism, are you done writing? It's your turn,"
I closed the book and placed it under my leg. "Yeah, what is it now? Truth?"
Luna smirked. "Yeah, now what's your deepest, darkest secret?"
Oh, I'm about to go all kinds of emo up in here...
"My deepest, darkest secret you say?...."
The lights suddenly flickered which added for affect.
"She did terrible things before she came to America. She saw things even worse,"
"Why is speaking in the third person?" Koushiro asked before Tori shushed him.
"Things that would drive those around her to take their own lives, but not her. Because, she knew she would one day be free from the grief. Free from the world of horror she knew as life...."
Julia and Momo were huddling in the corner.
"And she was right....but she didn't account for one thing...that the dreadful life that she had escaped from might one day return even worse than what she remembered..."
"Oh my gods..."
"Skylar, keep it together,"
"That when Prism least expects it...the world of sanity that she had kept for so many years will crumble both around her and inside her. Leaving Prism a scared soulless, mockery of what she once was or perhaps....what she believed to be...for Prism may never know who she really is what she tells herself or if the life she had before had torn her mind to pieces. Leaving nothing, but an empty shell of an individual to wander the world that may not even be what she thinks it is."
Everyone stared at me in a mix of horror and silence. I think I probably traumatized some of them.
"Prism?..."
"Prism, is tired. Have fun sleeping!" I smiled before the lights cut off completely.
"WHAT THE HELL FIDO?!!!!"
