[09] contest

This is for scootscootslahey contest, which was honestly a really creative idea! I couldn't hesitate the moment I saw it, so I sincerely hope you enjoy this! (I also hope I got the rules right, haha)

________

Name: Corey Walker, played by Grant Gustin

Personality: Typical dream guy. Always wants to protect the ones he loves, values relationships, takes risks even if it means getting himself hurt in the end. Very romantic. He is very vulnerable in certain situations and trusts too easily, but if you mess with him or anyone he cares about, you'll regret it.

Background Info: Lydia and Corey have been childhood best friends for as long as they can remember. They've been dating for three years, known as the popular kids in high school. Lydia isn't known as the "bitch" like she was way back in Teen Wolf as well. Their favorite thing is walking through the woods to talk. They also have no knowledge of the supernatural, but do suspect that something was always going on.

Prompt Number: I chose #2 because I love writing drastic situations (;

________

The fall was Lydia's favorite season; I knew that for a fact.

She adored the pumpkin spice latte's at the coffee shop in town, the soon coming black Friday shopping, the scarves and mittens, and most importantly, she loved looking at the color changing leaves in the woods. We always loved to walk through the woods anyways every day after school to talk about our days, but I could tell that during this season, it meant a whole lot more to Lydia.

I personally loved autumn myself, mostly because it meant Thanksgiving was coming fast, but also because of Lydia. The fifteenth of October was the month Lydia and I started dating three years ago, and it always made me giddy when I realized that we made it through another whole year. I knew for a fact that Lydia was the one; as close as soulmates could get. I know, sounds cheesy.

I shove my hands into my pockets as I kick a pile of leaves at my feet, watching them fly into the air before drifting back down softly. A hum sounds from Lydia's throat as she watches me, a small smile spreading across her face. I turn and look at her then as she looks up at the trees, her eyes wide with appreciation. I knew she was looking at the leaves.

"It'll be three years next week," she says then, looking back down with a wide smirk. "How in the hell did I make it this long with you?"

I reach out and take her hand then, her soft white mitten bringing me warmth. "Don't lie to yourself; I know you're obsessed with me."

She laughs before playfully punching my shoulder; an action that I was used to by now. "Whatever you say, Corey Walker."

A bright red leaf falls down in front of us along the path. "Are you going to the lacrosse game tonight?"

"Of course I'm going," she gives me a pathetic look. "When have I ever missed a game?"

She was right; I wasn't even sure why I asked. "We're playing Montgomery tonight...it should be an interesting game."

Montgomery has always been our biggest rival. Last year, we played them at their own homecoming, and it was nothing but a bloodbath. We had won the game, but everyone in the stands wasn't going to have it. They blamed the refs for everything and a few fights broke out, but what's new there?

Her eyes widen. "I'll make sure to bring my helmet."

Last year when all of that happened at the game, Lydia had been in the midst of it all. Some prick had accidentally punched her in the face and gave her a black eye, but I had given him two black eyes and a broken wrist before he could even apologize. You don't just accidentally punch someone.

I laugh at her. "Might want to bring a bat too."

She lays her head on my shoulder, her perfume blowing in the wind past my nose. "Why bring a bat when I have you?"

I was about to comment on what she said, but just when I started to talk, there was a crunching sound deeper in the woods. Lydia and I stop walking as we look out towards the sound, both of us wondering what it was. At first I wondered if it was my mind playing tricks on me, but Lydia heard it too, so it couldn't have been.

"Probably a deer or something," Lydia breathes. I knew that she was always paranoid about this type of stuff ever since that freak tried attacking her on the lacrosse field the night of Prom. From what I know, he knocked her down and was about to (as from what Lydia tells me) bite her before that kid Stiles saved her. She told me she blacked out after that, and that was when I found her lying there in the middle of the field, grass stains on her dress, but she was okay.

Another twig snaps off in the distance, causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand. I usually wasn't freaked out about this type of stuff, but the fact that it was starting to get dark and that I remembered hearing about mountain lion attacks on the news made me grow nervous. If whatever was out there was a mountain lion, we were utterly screwed. I didn't have anything to protect us, and all that Lydia had was a high healed shoe, if that would even do any damage.

I listen for a moment before tightening my grip on Lydia's hand. "I think we should go back."

"Probably a good idea," she breathes as we turn around, walking faster than before down the trail. For some reason, when we cross paths with the same red leaf we had seen earlier, I didn't see it as something of beauty. It reminded me of blood.

I could tell that Lydia was just as nervous as I was, but both of us were trying to keep our cool. Freaking out and running wouldn't help anything, and we weren't even sure if it was anything. It could just have been a deer or even just a couple of nuts falling off in the distance as they hit the leaves. That's what I was trying to tell myself, but then I heard another twig snap behind us, and I knew that whatever it was, it was following us.

Lydia whips around to look, but I just drag her along with me, not daring to let our hands separate. "We're almost there-"

That was when I lost Lydia's hand. Something slams into me from behind as I land on my stomach, feeling nothing but pain etch across my abdomen and my chest. It takes me a moment to catch my breath again, but when I did, I realized that my heart was racing out of control. Well, it made sense after all, since something was on top of me.

I look over my shoulder to see what it is, expecting to see a mountain lion, but whatever it was wasn't normal. Staring back at me was crimson stained eyes, burning with hatred and aggression. It's hot breath pants in my face, a soft growl emitting from it's throat. Just as its teeth bare at me, ready to strike, Lydia's scream pierces the air around me.

Never had I heard Lydia's scream before that moment. It was one of those screams you hear and instantly want to cover your ears because it was so high pitched and so loud that it made your brain scream for help. The creature on top of me seemed to be affected by it as well, but only for a moment. After Lydia paused to get a breath of air, the thing was leaping off of me and onto her, knocking her to the forest floor.

"Lydia!" I scream, rolling over to get up before a sharp pain blossoms in my shoulder. When I put pressure onto it, it gave out and caused me to fall back into the leaves below me. The blow from a minute ago must have knocked it out of place.

But I wasn't going to give up that easily. I use my other arm to push myself up; finally getting back onto my feet. Just when I turn to help Lydia, I hear her scream again, but this time, it wasn't like the one from a few seconds ago. It wasn't one out of fear; it was out of pure pain.

That was when I saw that the thing bit her.

I knew I couldn't fight that thing; it was so big. "Get off of her!" I scream, hoping it would release her and come for me. It latches on tighter into Lydia's shoulder as I grab a rock, throwing it onto the creatures head. "Hey!"

It lets her go then as it looks back at me, it's eyes burning into my scull like laser beams. Lydia gasps from the sudden pain, fear in her eyes as she stares up at the sky. I don't have time to move or to even run before the animal was leaping towards me, it's claws going deep into my stomach.

I land on my back this time, and the moment I landed, I couldn't breathe. It wasn't like a moment ago when it took me a few seconds to catch my breath again, but rather it was like I didn't have a reason to keep breathing anymore; like my body was telling me to give up.

That was when I felt the warm liquid bubble up my throat, escaping my lips as it drips down my chin. I didn't have to look to know that it was blood, the same color as the leave earlier down the trail.

The creature snarls at me, it's claws still in my stomach. For a moment I stare up at it, wondering why and what it even was. I hear Lydia start to roll onto her side to get up, but that wasn't what I was focused on. I could have sworn I heard the thing above me speak, saying:

"Non vos occiderem. Amor."

I recognized it as Latin, but I couldn't remember what it meant. After I hear that, the thing was gone. It was no longer on top of me and it was replaced with Lydia's face, tears streaming down her face. There was a huge bite mark on her shoulder that was bleeding like crazy, but she didn't care. She cared about me.

Her hands press onto my stomach, trying to stop the bleeding. "Corey, oh my God-just hang on, okay? Stay with me."

I take three quick breaths, the corner of my vision starting to get fuzzy. "L-Lydia-"

She was pulling her phone out then, her hands shaking as she starts to dial 911. I reach up with whatever strength I had left and lower her hand, a sad smile forming on my face. I didn't have to say what she was already thinking.

Her bottom lip curls under as she shakes her head, her hands pressing harder on my stomach, desperate to stop the bleeding. "No-NO! You are not dying on me, Corey? You hear me? We have been through too damn much for it to end this way! I-I love you Corey and you cannot leave me like this. You are strong and brave and stupid...you're so stupid Corey, but you are a fighter, okay? Fight for your family, yourself, and for me, please. Please, stay with me!"

It was like hearing all of those words knocked some sense into me. A few seconds ago, I was ready to go, but not because I wanted to. It was because it was the easy thing to do. But seeing Lydia sitting over me with tears streaming down her face made me realize that I needed to stay alive, for her.

So, I did. Lydia called 911 and they had gotten there before it was too late. Lydia saved my life that day; not because she helped stop the bleeding, but because of her words that gave me just a little more hope. I never believed that the mind was a factor during life or death like what our Biology teacher told us once until that day. I guess not all of it is your physical state; you have to have the will to keep going.

It wasn't until the third day in the hospital I decided to look up what the words meant that the creature had spoken to me, meaning "I didn't kill you. Love did." In a way that could have been true, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that that thing was wrong.

Love was what saved me.

I also made a little edit just for fun for these two cause I'm trash (:

I know it's not that great, but I really had fun writing this. Thanks for hosting! <3
