Chapter 11
AN: A little more insight into Louis and his situation. I'm really glad you guys are liking him! Just a warning, there is a tiny mention of self harm, but it doesn't get too into it.
Despite what Louis had told Jack about, his treatment wasn't exactly a walk in the park. He'd been going every day since he'd had his first session, and every day he dreaded the moment that the nurse called his name and took him away. The doctors had been getting steadily less pleasant, and they didn't appreciate Louis's constant insistence that there was nothing wrong with him.
"How have you been feeling today?" The doctor asked him during their fourth session - that was how it started every day, and his answer never changed.
"Fine." Until now, Louis always added silently.
"Good, good. Find anything new to do today?"
"No."
The doctor frowned (as per usual). "And why not?"
"There's never anything new to do. There's never anything to do."
"As I've told you before, you need to hone your creative skills. Have you not been doing that?"
Louis rolled his eyes. "No. There's nothing to use my creative skills on. Besides, I'm not that creative anyway. Wouldn't mind a book to read, though."
"We can't allow any literature inside the asylum, you know that. Anything you read could potentially affect your treatment." Louis didn't respond to that, and the doctor sighed. "Alright then, moving on. Have you had any urges of self-mistreatment today?"
Here we go, Louis thought. That was what his parents had sent him in for, even though he hadn't done anything in over a year, something that the doctors here were very aware of.
"No."
"Rethink that, Louis. Remember what I've told you, you could have had subconscious thoughts. Just because you didn't think specifically about self-mistreatment doesn't mean you didn't think about something related to it without being aware."
"No."
"Louis - "
"No! No, I haven't, I haven't since last March, you know that!"
"I'm going to have to ask you not to use that tone when speaking to me."
Louis didn't know why, but he was getting more angry with the man than he had before. "I'm gonna use this tone if it's means you'll listen to me!"
"If you don't calm down, we're going to have to force you to, and I'm afraid you won't like that."
He ignored the doctor and rose to his feet. "Nothing's wrong with me! Nothing's wrong, and I shouldn't be in here, and you know it!"
The doctor stood as well, and gave Louis a menacing look. When he didn't back down, and simply glared at the older man, he raised his hand and slapped the boy hard in the face. Louis recoiled, staring at him in shock. That had never happened before.
"I am going to get through to you, and I am going to fix you, whether it be with your willingness, or by force." The doctor told him in a low voice. "You are dismissed until tomorrow, at which time you will hopefully be more well-behaved."
Louis turned and stalked off, blinking back the tears that were forming in his eyes and trying to ignore the stinging on his cheek.
He headed back towards the main room, and he saw Jack look up when he entered. He didn't know how long he'd been gone, but he knew it wasn't nearly as long as his sessions usually were. He sighed and walked towards Jack, knowing he couldn't tell him all of what had happened. Jack had been acting a little off ever since he went in for treatment (he'd only be going once a week), and Louis didn't want to worry him anymore than was necessary.
He sat down next to his friend and, as expected, her turned to him.
"How was it today?" Jack asked, and Louis simply shrugged, not knowing what else to say.
"Fine."
Jack gave him a once over, his gaze lingering on the bruise that was forming on Louis's cheek, but he didn't mention that. "You sure? You seem kinda upset."
Louis shook his head. "It was fine. I'm just tired."
Jack didn't believe him. But he didn't ask about it either.
