Chapter 8- Secrets...Secrets...
Kate sighed as she sat in her bed. She watched as a red glow came out of her body and formed into a sword. Catching it, she examined it once again. She had been or practicing throughout the night and she could now summon her weapon without needing to close her eyes. Kate fell back onto her bed while raising the sword into the air.
"Can you please stop? I'm trying to get some sleep," Cassidy grumbled from the floor. Since this was supposed to be a sleepover in the first place, Cassidy made herself a make-shift bed with a extra comforter and pillow. The boys were sleeping in the living room. One on the couch. The other on the floor.
"Fine," Kate responded and allowed the sword to dissolve. The soft glow in the room disappeared and she was once again in the dark. She closed her eyes but couldn't find sleep. There was too much on her mind.
What kind of powers was Malakoth talking about? What was that monster they fought? Why was there a ouija board in the attic? Is this all a dream? Will her parents come home early?
She stumbled with these questions, thinking over and over a answer that might ease her mind a bit. Eventually, sleep overtook her.

Luke woke up with a start as he rolled off the couch and onto something soft.
"Hey! Get off!"
He looked down to see that he was laying on the red-head, Jake.
"Oops! Sorry Jake!" He apologized as he leapt up. Jake got up and rubbed his nose.
"You sleep worse than my sister..." He grumbled under his breath. He stretched and looked out the window. The sun was barely up and their was the clear sound of bird's singing. He pulled the scarlet curtain back over the window and yawned.
"It's still pretty early," he said.
"Well, aren't we supposed to leave early anyways?" Luke inquired.
Jake gave him a weird glance before realizing his friend's words.
"Oh, you mean because Kate's parents could come home anytime," he answered.
"Mhmm..." Luke said with a mocking tone.
"Well, I'll go ahead and go, tell the girls that I went home," he said as he grabbed his stuff and started walking to the front door.
"Kay. Bye," Luke replied as he sat on the couch and turned on the TV and waited for the girls to awaken.

Jake shook his head. So much has happened in such a short time. He walked out of the porch and onto the driveway. Pulling out his keys, he stepped up to a sleek black pickup and unlocked it.
He climbed into the truck and drove back to his house which wasn't too far away. Just a few streets. Kate's house and subdivision was quite far away from the newer buildings though.
He pulled up into the driveway and walked up to a small, modern looking house.
"I'm home Mom," he said to a photo on the bookcase near the front door. The picture showed a grinning woman with long red hair. He smiled as he looked at her pose, she was holding up one hand into a peace sign while the other was ruffling his hair. He was only eight at the time. His younger sister stood beside their mom with a small shy smile. She had short brown hair.
He walked into the kitchen and started to prepare some breakfast for himself.

Kate groaned as she was awoken by a male voice.
"Hey Kate, Jake left"
"Who?" Kate answered sleepily.
"Jake"
"Oh..." Kate opened her eyes and blinked as she saw Luke's bright green eyes staring down at her," What do you want?" She asked yawning.
"I gotta go, I didn't want to leave you two without telling you guys first," he said. Sometimes, he can be a pretty responsible guy. Kate blinked.
"You gotta go for your rehearsal right?"
"Shhhh! Cassidy is in the same room, no telling if she's awake or not," he whispered anxiously.
"Oh right, sorry," she whispered. Luke had started a new band with a few friends from school. Kate and Cassidy don't hang out around much with them, but they were cool. Since Cassidy loves bands so much, Luke decided to plan a surprise on her to practice with his little 'group' and play for her somewhere. Kate had been covering for him since. They only practice for a few hours a day at most.
Kate nodded toward Luke and gave a quick goodbye to him as he walked off. She turned her head to the sleeping brunette on the floor and smiled. If Luke is able to keep this a secret, she was going to love the surprise.
