I sighed the following evening getting my gear on. "Chica I swear I will go with you", said Louisa. Tightening the straps of the claimed bullet proof vest I pulled getting it snug and snapped the strap shut.

"Louisa you do this every time I have my night shift without you or Cassidy. I've done this for four years now. The first year I wasn't even living with you", I said.

She wagged her finger at me, "Hey, do not get annoyed Chica. Those Zettas and coyotes are dangerous when you mess with them", she warned.

"Louisa, it's my job to screw with them", I replied.

"But it's serious when one threatens you Chica!", she objected.

"Louisa that was two weeks ago, plus I have a few more threats to add to my list. Some man called me a whore for arresting him", I said tying my laces.

"Chica! This is serious! I don't know but I have a feeling in my gut!", said Louisa.

"You say that every time", I said.

Louisa groaned, "Chica, I don't have a problem with going with you. Cassidy is going to binge watch Grey's Anatomy anyway!".

"Louisa you need to spend some quality time with Cassidy. Not just work related time. But good time, alone time....with me out of the house", I said.

I raised my finger, "Hey", I said as she tried to speak. "No", I warned as she made a sound. "Eh! No! Shh!", I said again as she tried to speak.

"Louisa, I can hear you", I said crossing my arms popping my gum. It was a habit now. But it got the message across that I did not want to argue.

"Oh Chica! Fine!", she grumbled extending her arms.

I smiled hugging Louisa. She was like a mother. The mother of the family. I took my backpack and the car keys. "Have fun and I'll see you later in the morning!", I said.

"Be safe Chica! Don't do anything stupid!", she called from the door.

I smiled tossing my backpack into the passenger's seat and got in. I checked through the side mirrors and drove out of the driveway turning left. I chewed my gum and headed off down to work. To the border of the Rio Grande.
