-Chapter Thirty Three-
I came around groaning and to someone lugging me up. I can barely remember what happened. Other than that the forceful drug use kept continuing and so did the beating and the striking.
The cuffs were now in front still so tight. I could see the bruising. I found myself on the soles of my feet as the man pulled me along. With a bandana on and sweating. I blinked managing to walk forward sluggishly. My feet were stumbling ahead. I couldn't see.
That bag was over my head again. But now...something felt warm. I could hear something. It was...it was a helicopter. Great...one abduction after the next. Can't it just end? How long had I been here?
There was concrete under my feet. Or at least I thought it was concrete. The man stopped and there was shouting that I couldn't really make out. Everything was muffled and there was a ringing in my ears.
I shut my eyes feeling a sudden brightness over my vision and it turned orange inside my head rather than black. I managed to open my eyes halfway. I raised my head a bit. I saw feet. Several pairs of feet. One hundred yards ahead. I looked to the left a bit.
Water?
Water?
Was I....
The man kicked my knees forward and I grunted pained as they hit the stone gravel road. I lifted my head a bit.
Why were there so many people? I tried to get a better view with my eyes but it was too hot. I was sweating from the heat. I knew I was outside. Outside. On a bridge. Over water. There was a helicopter. There were several people here.
Oh right, that ass Juan was speaking. Was he giving a speech of some sort?
Was that? Was that Chris walking forward? Was...was he carrying something? What was it? What was going on.
Chris was walking forward. He was trying to go slowly. He had volunteered to deliver the package. The heavy one hundred fifty pounds of crap.
He stared getting closer. He swallowed. He was nervous. His heart was pounding. This could go terribly wrong. And with that ass hole babbling Chris really wanted to shoot him. Wanted to put one through his sockets.
He knew better though. He just looked directly at me. I managed to look back at him. All I was wondering was, was he staring at me?
Chris stopped five feet from Juan who sneered.
"Put it down", said Juan.
Chris did slowly but as Juan reached for it he put his foot on the lid.
"Lady first", said Chris.
Juan glared, "Show me what's in the box", said Juan.
Chris glared back then he glanced my way and removed his foot stepping back.
Juan stared at him frowning, "Keep going" he ordered wagging the pistol at Chris. It was playful and not serious. But the snipers were on edge just waiting silently. They had to wait.
"Back up", said Juan.
Chris raised his hands. He didn't want to. But deep down he had no other choice. So he did slowly.Step by step. Step by step. Back farther and farther and farther away. He stopped as Juan opened the lid to the black container which was already hot from the heat and he burned himself from touching the top.
It gave Chris a bit of satisfaction. But he stared at me his heart pounding. Everyone was on edge. Holding their breaths. They were alert and trying to stay ready for anything.
Juan was satisfied with the load and he shut the lid. He snapped his fingers.
The man nudged me forward. What?
He nudged me again with more force. Oh...I'm supposed to go forward.
I swallowed managing to push myself up. Forward. Just walk forward. I kept telling myself. I managed to take a step towards Chris. I limped trying to get the weight off my leg. Though I was a half out of it. I could tell what was going on.
This was a trade.
I stopped at that thought breathing heavily. Sweat fell down my chin and the old dry crusted blood was sticky now. The shirt on my leg was half way slipping and loose as it rubbed against the hole in my leg as I tried to keep as minimal weight on it as possible.
I was too afraid to go to the edge and lean against it. Though I looked at it. The water looked nice. It looked nice and cold.
I shook my head. Not that much father. Not much farther. Then...then...you'll be over borders.
Just keep going. Just forward. I began to step forward again. I wanted to go faster. The closer I got the faster I wanted to go. But the pain and the aching felt like weights gagging me down. Not to mention my heart was still pounding like crazy and my breaths were still short and quick. He gave me a parting gift. The fucking high feeling.
I breathed taking another large step forward as Chris also did the same catching me from his fifty foot separation of distance. Chris slammed me down as sharp fire erupted piercing the air. The shots were precise and complete. That of a sniper gun.
There was screaming but no other shot was fired. No automatic guns. No massive weapons of military grade went off. People and citizens who had watched even though they were instructed to stay away at home. Some didn't stay away and slipped passed screaming and crying.
I was crying too. I was shaking. Not fully understanding. It seemed all the adrenalin my body ha poured into my to make me handle the entire week was now just washing away and it was letting the real feeling flow out.
"Shh...shh....shh...your alright Klein. Your alright Klein...your safe now. Your safe", whispered Chris.
What he said helped. I could barely catch it though. My ears were ringing and I just couldn't stop crying and whimpering. Even as the paramedics came over to start their job.
I felt broken.....
I was broken.....
