When I woke back up I found myself chained to a table. The chains that would usually be cold were warm so it was clear I'd been there for a whille. If I had to guess probably since I had passed out. That was kinda annoying to me. I sat up straight fixing my poor posture. The position I had been in originally was rather uncomfortable after all. They'd probably just tossed me into the chair, chained me down and left.

While I was lost in my mind the door open and a man with black hair and red eyes walked in. He sat across from me and stared at me for a couple minutes before he said anything. "You don't seem scared," he ended up saying.

"I have no reason to be. If you were going to kill me I'd be dead. The fact that I'm still alive can only mean I'm more valuable to you alive than dead," I pointed out which seemed to amuse him. "Another thing is the power selection was already done before I started choking. That's why I'm here. I ate the table and you don't know what's going to happen."

The man sighed and rubbed his temples. "The table had touched all of the options we had available to people and we don't know the effect that could cause in you. So we want to observe you and if our scientists are correct then you can't be released into society."

"If I'm too dangerous for the public will I be kept here to be studied?" I asked allowing my voice to be soft so it came across as timid and scared. A look of sympathy passed on the man's face. Score.

"No, it's considered inhumane to hold a human for stuff like that. However you will have to learn to control your powers here and will have to prove you're loyal to us by providing one year of armed services."

"We still have a military? That seems so old school.." I muttered

"Yes, warfare still exists. However, it is fought in an entirely different way than it used to be," the man explained. "Due to everyone having powers we fight with those."

"But what if the scientists are wrong?" I asked my voice still soft to trick him into feeling bad for me.

"Then you'll be set free to the public with whatever power you gain from the table you ate."

"I see... Could I make an inquiry?" I asked softly as I glanced at him before averting my gaze to the chains wrapping around my wrists.

"Sure. Although I can't garuntee I'll actually answer it. Therefore, it depends on the inquiry whether you get an answer or not," he responded.

"It's an innocent question so I'm almost certain that you'll answer... I'd just like to know your name," I said as I directed my gaze towards him.

"While you aren't wrong I am not disclosing that information with you at this time," he responded his eyes seeming sheltered.

"I don't understand. Why won't you tell me?" I asked my eyes searching his.

"It's not something that is importan to know at this time. Besides, at the rate this is going we probably will not see each other again," he said his tone turning cold.

I pulled back away from him, my gaze focusing on the table in front of me. Had I hurt him? I hadn't meant to. I just wanted to know his name. I jumped in surprise when I heard him sigh. I looked up at him momentarily before I looked away from him again.

"Look, I.. I'm sorry. I'm not good with people, and I never really meant to hurt you. Also, I'm not good with girls. Last time I opened up I got hurt..." He leaned against a wall and sighed again. "For the time being just call me Z. If I feel I can trust you then I will give you my full name" Z said his eyes finding their way to mine for only a moment before I tore my eyes away.

"No it's okay. I shouldn't have pushed you like that," I told him as I fiddled with my thumbs.

"Don't worry about it," Z stated as he put something down on the table before I heard the door open and then shut.

I looked at what he put on the table in front of me and saw a uniform with my name on the label. So this was really happening. I allowed my hands grip my head as I felt tears well up in my eyes "I'm so stupid. Why did I have to go off and choose the table.." As I sat there crying I heard the door open back up.

"This seems to be a bad time, but I've come to tell you your training begins tomorrow," someone said. It was Z. I recognized that voice immediately.

"Okay.." I got out with a bit of trouble as I tried to keep my voice steady. I didn't want him to think I was weak. I wasn't weak. "Who will be the commanding officer?" I inquired.

As he spoke I could hear a smirk in his voice. "Me. So don't disappoint, I will not forgive your failures. Know I expect great things out of you, Nina" Z stated with a deadly calm aura.

When he said my name chills were sent up my spine. His kindness.. Was it all just an act?

Out of no where I felt something cold against my neck and then something warm slide down it. Z had a knife digging into my throat. "Nina, don't take me likely. I mean it. Your failures will not go unpunished. Your weakness is not unnoticed," he dug the knife further in. I felt myself starting to grow light headed. The edges of my vision started to go black. Despite this I felt the knife dig deeper into my skin.
