Alive?
Just putting trigger warning because this is in Violet's suicide scene
•
Don't you die on me!" He yelled, dragging her limp body down the hallway.
The bathroom had never felt so far away. The house had never felt so big.
"Violet!"
Tate managed to get them into the bathroom; pulling her up into the bathtub with him and between his legs. She was as limp as a doll and her face white as porcelain. He turned the shower on quickly; freezing water slamming into them.
"Violet!" He screamed once more as if somehow his voice would wake her.
Why had she taken those pills? Did she not realize what would happen if you died in this house?
He yelled her name once more; throats feeling raw.
He did the only thing he could rationally think of and put his fingers down her throat. Violet suddenly jerked forward, throwing up; blue pills hitting the bathtub in the process.
A sound had never felt so relieving to him.
She coughed and gasped for air as he gently stroked her soaking wet hair.
Violet had no idea where she was for a few seconds. She had been in her room. She had plunged herself into the sweet comfort of darkness.
She squinted as water droplets made their way down her face and the bright light in the bathroom burned her eyes.
The wetness of her face also came from tears that were streaming down her cheeks. Realization dawned upon her. She looked back at the soaking wet boy who held her and was crying just as hard as she was. He had just saved her life.
Had she really wanted to die?
Tate gently stroked her hair back from her face and kissed her head as she cried and mumbled slurred apologies and words that barely made sense to even her own ears.
He turned off the water and climbed out of the bathtub; carefully helping her back out. She sat back on the edge; shivering at her drenched clothes.
"I'll be back." Tate whispered, leaving the bathroom.
Violet heard his shoes squeak down the hall and sat there in silence; still in a haze to process what had just happened.
The last thing she remembered was falling onto her bed and the edge of her vision going black and fuzzy. Her ears ringing and her mind going static like a television until she felt the numbness of nothing at all.
Tate returned with clothes in his hands. He now wore jeans and a green and black striped sweater.
Violet didn't know where he kept his clothes in this house. Her mind was too foggy to even think nor care about such small things.
Tate knelt down in front of her; hesitating. She definitely couldn't get dressed in this state. Sure they'd nearly ripped each other's clothes off while making out a few times. But he hadn't ever actually undressed her.
"I'm gonna get you into these, okay?" He said.
She absentmindedly nodded.
Tate was careful to be gentle; pulling her cardigan off that stuck to her skin. He took a towel from the rack on the wall and tried to dry her the best he could with each article of her many layers of clothing. He managed to change her into pants and an oversized purple sweater he had found in her closet.
Violet stared off into space; her mind still as fuzzy as ever while she tried to process the last fifteen minutes.
"I'm tired. . ." She whispered; physically flinching at the weakness of her voice. Violet could fear the tears burning at the back of her eyes. She wouldn't let them spill. She refused to let them spill.
"Me too." Tate said, stroking his thumb on her cheek and kissing it softly.
He helped her stand on her wobbling knees before slipping a hand under them with the other at her back and picked her up. Her forehead felt the warm against the crook of his neck and her hand felt a soft beating of his heart in his chest as he carried her to her room.
He laid her down on her bed and she grabbed his hand.
"Just stay."
He nodded, crawling in next to her and draping an arm over her waist.
She felt herself going into the space between sleeping and awake; her conscious thoughts slowing down and spacing out.
She was alive.
Tate had just saved her life.
Maybe, just maybe, he truly was a good person.
She had no idea of the truth.
