Chapter 21-Argument
A/N: At this point I have given up on an updating schedule. I just update during random spurts of inspiration. Thank you all so much for being so patient with me, regardless of if you were with me from the start of this book or you just picked it up today. Looking back, I have realized that I have only published 21 chapters in more than a year, since I started this sometime in December 2015. Anyways, I will try to update again soon (as always). Constructive criticism is always welcome. I didn't really go back and reread this chapter, so feel free to correct any errors in this chapter. There are a few TFIOS and Hamilton references in here. Happy reading!
Bella's POV
"Well, judging from her symptoms and chest x-ray, it looks like she has pneumonia. You can go pick up your prescription medication at your listed pharmacy." Carlisle said, scribbling down something on a piece of paper and handing it to my mother, "Have her take the medicine two times a day; once in the morning, once at night. Make sure she gets plenty of rest and drinks plenty of fluids. She should be fine in a week or so. Please schedule a check-up appointment in a week at the front desk."
"Thank you, Dr. Cullen." My mom replied, smiling graciously. She grabbed her purse and wheeled me out of the room, Carlisle holding the door open for us. I gave him a weak smile.
"Hello Ms. Swan, Bella." Edward greeted us as we stepped out of the hospital.
"Thank you again for taking my daughter to the hospital and calling me," My mom gushed, "I don't know what I would do without such a caring community around here."
"Always glad to help, Ms. Swan." Edward replied smoothly.
-----
"How was your day?" I asked Edward, looking up from my book.
"It would have been better if you were at school. Are you feeling better?" Edward said, sitting down on my bed.
"Yeah," I nodded, "But the medicine tastes terrible."
"The world is not a wish-granting factory." he told me, "Would you rather have good-tasting medicine and stay sick or bad-tasting medicine that actually helps you get better?"
"The second one," I responded, rolling my eyes, "I get your point."
"Do you want to go somewhere tonight?" Edward suggested, stretching out and laying on his side.
"I'm sick, remember?" A bout of coughs racked my body, proving my point.
"So?"
"I don't think it would be wise to go to a restaurant and get other people sick." I pointed out.
"Who says we're going to a restaurant?"
"Well -" I began.
"We could just go to my place. It's not like anyone in my family can get sick anyways."
"Which is why if you turned me I wouldn't be sick right now and we wouldn't be having this argument in the first place."
"Bella, we've been through this before. I don't want you to be-"
"-come like me. I'm a monster. I have to soul. Blah. Blah. Blah." I cut him off. "Don't you see? I hear you. I know the risks. But I want this. Please, Edward."
"Fine. Let's say I did agree. How would we do it? We couldn't do it here, since we have a treaty with the werewolves down in La Push. We would have to somehow convince your mom to leave this place and we could never come back. Do you want that?"
"Well-" I tried to start.
"No, Bella. Don't you see? Just . . . let's not talk about this. It's just simpler to leave everything the way it is right now. Everyone is happier."
"What about me? Do you think I want to be stuck in this wheelchair for the rest of my life? And even if we did waste money on a surgery, I will never be as strong or as capable as you."
"Bella -"
"I'll go through with the surgery. But just know that you can do anything you want, but I will never be satisfied until I get turned."
Edward's POV
"And then she agreed to the surgery but warned me that she would not be happy until she was turned." I finished, recounting my conversation with Bella to my family.
"Here's what I think we should do." Alice began, "Go through with the surgery and then see what she says after. If she still wants to be turned we'll consider it. You never know. She might be satisfied once we go through with the surgery."
"I agree with Alice." Carlisle said, after thinking for a while.
"Yep." Esme agreed.
"Okay, then it's settled." Alice shrugged. "That went faster family discussions normally do."
"Yeah. Well, now that that is out of the way, I'm going over to Bella's house to hang out for a while."
