Chapter Three
In Summer's sleeping state, she felt someone begin to shake her shoulder and after a moment her eyes slowly flittered open. When she realized that she had fallen awake her eyes shot open and she sat up so fast that she'd managed to strain her still dislocated shoulder.
"Woah, woah it's okay. Calm down, miss." Came a calm almost soothing voice from beside her. She quickly rubbed the sleep out of her eyes before looking up at the shock of her life as she looked around to see four turtles, two humans, and a giant rat standing or kneeling around.
"I, uh, I can't believe it. It's you all of you!" She exclaimed her voice full of awe and wonder. To her immediate right was Donatello whom it seemed like was skipping the introductions and jumping straight to checking on her injuries. April and Leo stood directly in front of her with the rest of the group of turtles and Casey. As she watched them she could see Raph leaning over to whisper something to Leonardo too low for her to hear anything as the blue-banded turtle gave a slight shake of his head before murmuring something back to the red-banded turtle.
"If I may interrupt miss but we have some questions for you," Splinter said as he stepped forward to examine the girl before him. With an unsure gulp, Summer gave a quick nod to the rat for him to continue with his questioning.
"Hold on Dad." Donnie suddenly interjected with one raised three-fingered hand as the other finished securing another bandage. That was when the young woman finally looked to see that Donatello had already bandaged and cleaned up all of her injure's.
"Your shoulder is definitely dislocated and I need to pop it back in then it'll continue to swell and could become very painful and even damage your blood vessels."
"Uh, that's kinda intense Donnie." She mumbled without thinking and everyone's heads immediately snapped up or over to look at her. Suddenly Raphael was approaching her fast.
"How do you know his name? In fact, how do you know anything about us?" Raph snapped as he pointed an accusatory finger at the bandaged young woman as she looked to the side as if she was trying to avoid the red-clad turtle's question.
"Yeah, and how did you know about April and her shop," Casey interjected quickly as he gestured to the redheaded woman standing beside her.
"Yeah, I'm pretty curious myself," April spoke nodding her agreement as she spoke hands on her with an incredulous look on her face.
"You wouldn't believe me if I'd told you. You'd probably just call me crazy." She mumbled when she felt a hand get placed on her right uninjured shoulder and when she looked up she saw Splinter looking down at her with kindness in his eyes before he spoke.
"I have heard and experienced many things in my long life, please, tell us." The rat mutant said with a comforting squeeze of her noninjured shoulder as his smile widened slightly as he spoke. Summer took a moment to look from Splinter to the turtles and humans surrounding her before sighing in defeat.
"Alright fine. I'll tell you but you're probably not gonna like it." Summer said before she began her tale of where she was from and how she knew about the turtles, their friends, and the Shredder. After that, she told them all about how they were originally comic books before they were eventually made into a cartoon that came out in the '80s that lasted until the '90s. Finally, she told them about how now they are another animated show and how much she knows about this world so far.
"-and that's it basically," The bandaged girl finished explaining after Donatello had finished popping her shoulder into place and giving her some pain pills to take. She took a moment to pop the pills and choke them down before looking back at the group standing before her with a sigh. 'I knew that this was gonna be a lot for them to take in.' She thought as a look of pensive worry filled her face.
"Woah, dude, that's kinda a lot to think about," Mikey said as he scratched the back of his head with a look that seemed to be a mix of confusion and worry.
"Wait, wait, wait so you're telling us that you've come from an alternate universe where we're all some characters in a cartoon?" Raphael asked his voice filled with uncertainty with an incredulous look on his face. She gave him a small nod as her only form of response before she looked at the ground to avoid everyone else looking at her like she was crazy. This was gonna be harder than she thought to convince them that she was telling the truth.
"I mean, it makes some sense," Donatello said with a shrug and Summer couldn't help but snap her head up to look at the purple-banded turtle in question.
"What?" Raph asked giving his little brother a 'are you serious?' look when Casey jumped in to speak right after his buddy had finished his question.
"You can't be serious," Casey said his head cocked to the side as he eyed Don up and down as if he was trying to check the turtle's sanity. At their scrutiny, the turtle in purple simply shrugged his shoulders before speaking.
"Look, the multiverse theory has been a thing for years and while there hasn't been any real concrete evidence, until this point I guess, that doesn't mean that it's not necessarily untrue. Besides we're four mutant turtles, a rat, and their two human friends in a constant fight with Shedder and his clan of ninjas. We're not exactly normal guys nor do we have the most normal of lives." Donatello finished his mini speech with a raise of his hands as he looked between his family and his friends with a raised eyebrow ridge. Summer had no idea what to think as she gazed up as the genius turtle turned to her and gave her a reassuring smile as he nudged her with his arm which got a small laugh out of the girl.
"Alright D. You've made your point and yeah you are right we do not have the most typical of lives," Leo said as he placed a hand on his younger brother's shoulder before looking at her causing her to straighten up a bit as the groups leader turned to speak to her.
"Well, if Don believes you then so do I."
"Seriously?" She said her voice full of relief and without knowing why she felt herself tear up a bit. After taking a second to wipe her eyes she looked back up at the leader in blue."Thanks, I appreciate it."
"Sorry, for how suspicious we've all been acting since you called," April said as she came up to pat Summer on the back with a small smile.
"It's alright I get it I'd be the same if I had to protect my family like you have to." She replied her smile widening as the rest of the group began to approach her. Mikey soon ran up and gave her a tight hug picking her up and causing her to let out a squealing giggle as she tried to wiggle out of his grip.
"Mikey! Put me down!"
"No can do dudette we're going straight to the lair for pizza and movies!" Terrapin in orange cried as he spun himself and the girl in his arms around to the others. Leo and Donnie shook their heads at their youngest brother. Suddenly there was a loud scoff from Raph as he rolled his eyes and looked away from the group surrounding the new girl. At that Splinter turned on his second eldest son giving him a quizzical.
"Do you have something to say, my son?" The turtle's father asked a brow raised as if he was asking his boy to continue with whatever complaint he seemed to have with the current situation that was developing. After a moment's hesitation with all eyes now on the red-wearing terrapin he gave a shake of his head before finally responding to his father's question.
"I just think it's convenient that some random girl who just so happens to know all about us-" At that Summer quickly interjected though her voice didn't sound as confident as she wanted it to.
"I don't know...everything about you guys." As she looked around the group her cheeks felt like they were burning she looked anywhere but at the group her arms folded across her chest shyly. Her snapped up when April placed a gentle hand on her should a gentle smile reassuring on her face.
"Regardless, I highly doubt that this is just a coincidence. Somebody else has gotta be in on this and knowing our luck is probably got something to do with ol' ShredHead." Raph finished motioning vaguely towards said enemy building in the distance. At the mention of the Shredder, the blonde felt a shiver run down her spine as her eyes drifted towards the ominous building and she almost felt like that metal monster was staring into her soul. That's why she nearly jumped out of her skin and let out an audible squeak when a three-fingered hand patted her on the back and she whipped around to a surprised-looking Donatello.
"Oh, Donnie, sorry you scared me. I guess I got kinda distracted." She mussed a bit of a nervous smile as she turned to look up at the taller turtle.
"No problem but you might want to stay with us for now. If that's okay with you Pops?" Donnie said with a crooked smile as he turned to face his sensei who gave a curt nod to his tallest son. "See? Mikey and I'll help you get set up."
"Also, I'm sure I've got some clothes that you can have if they fit.' April chimed in with a big grin on her face as she put a hand on Summer's shoulder as she and Donnie began to lead the young woman towards the fire escape.
