Chapter Twenty-Three

We sat in silence for a couple minutes. I coughed, shaking with chills.

Where did Randall go?

More light flooded in from the other side of the room. I looked up.

Standing at the open double doors was a round creature, with two arms and two legs.

"Hey, Sul', are you down here? Your secretary said—" His speech stopped, like a train had slammed into him. "Sulley?"

The monster fell into a frantic full sprint, for the first time seeing Sullivan's condition. "Sulley!"

"Sulley?" I repeated out loud.

"Mike!" Sullivan yelled in response, mustering as much strength as he could from his chains.

"Mike?" I raised an eyebrow.

Mike came into the light. He was green, with one eye, and two small horns.

Just like in my drawings.

"Mike Wazowski?"

Mike looked back and forth between us, before falling to his knees, trying to free my hands.

"Who did this?!" he said, pulling at duct tape around my wrists.

Before Sullivan could speak up, I jumped in.

"It was Randall!" I burst, still struggling in my tape. "Whoever he is."

"Randall?! How is that possible? Wait, how do you--"

"Mike." Sullivan finally jumped in. "It's Boo."

Mike turned his gaze from Sullivan to my burning face, his eyelids tightening around his single eyeball. "No. No, it can't be. No... It's not..."

"Yes, yes it is."

He stumbled back, pale as if he had seen a ghost. "No."

I curled my lips grimly. "Yes."

He took a step forward, eyeing me. "Boo? But you're, but you're..." He swallowed, almost immobilized by his shock, his face lifting in exhilaration. "Boo?"

Before I could move, a crate slammed down on him, sealing him shut.

"AH!" I fell back, startled.

There, holding the crate from behind the shadows, was Randall. I could hear muffed screaming and banging from inside the crate.

"You know, I knew Wazowski would eventually turn up." He tossed the crate to the side. It slid until it bumped into the wall beside Sulley.

"Mikey!" Sullivan jerked again at his cuffs.

"And the fun can't begin without Wazowski, can it?" he hissed. "Now, let's start things off with a bang." Randall walked to the left to the side of the room.

"You know buddy, you really need to find yourself a hobby."

Randall then began his stride to the far right side of the room, and my eyes followed.

Although once shrouded in darkness, because of the new bulb that Randall had put in, it was now was able to be seen.

In the corner against the wall was a door station, like the one I had escaped into this world from, with buttons on one side and a canister on the other.

But the door in the station was like no closet door I had ever seen before.

It was wider, metallic grey, and had frost sprouting from its border.

"So that's where that door station went," Sullivan said.

Randall hit a few buttons on the keypad. A red circle glowed above the door.

"No." Croaked from Sullivan, in denial of I knew not what.

Randall opened the door.

A swirling blizzard raged on the other side.

"NO!" Sullivan was even more furious now, and I could hear Mike's muffled struggle in the background...

But I didn't catch on to what was happening until Randall picked me up, holding me with two hands to my hair, two hands to my legs.

Sullivan roared like a lion at Randall, which, I won't lie, almost made me soil myself.

"Remember this, Sullivan?" Randall taunted. He swung me back and forth, back and forth, gaining momentum each time.

"STOP IT! STOP IT RIGHT NOW! DON'T TOUCH HER! PUT HER DOWN! PUT HER DOWN!" Sullivan thrashed so much I worried his arms would tear off.

"Please no, please no, please no--" I begged.

He swung harder and harder, walking towards the door.

I vomited, overwhelmed from the motion sickness and my stomach pains.

"Look at her! She's sick! She's dying! She'll never last in the cold! Don't do this, Randall. Don't do this--"

"All right, come on, over the plate. Let's see the ol' stuff here, pal. Come on, now, chuck her, chuck her, baby. Hum, baby. Hum, baby, here's the pitch."

"WHEN I GET OUT OF HERE--"

Randall let me go, hurling me through the door, and into the blizzard.

"BOOOOO!" Sullivan's bellow grew fainter and fainter as I soared from the door.

"And she is outta here!" Randall cried with delight, slamming the door behind me.

* * *

I flew through the door, into the air, tumbling down the hill of white.

I rolled to a stop at the bottom, my pajamas filled with ice.

I lay in the deep snow, my body shutting down. My feet and fingers spiked in pain from the frost. The wind screamed, sleet blasting my face.

I shook in spasms, my blistering skin on fire.

I could not feel the cold on my flesh.

I could not feel my flesh.

I was being engulfed in sweat and flames.

The sound of my heart beat pounding my ears drowned out the roar of the blizzard.

I struggled to breathe. I felt like an elephant was sitting on me, crushing my ribs.

I was so tired.

I was ready to roll over and die. Just for this pain to end.

"I must know..."

And now I know.

I had finally, finally found those answers.

But...

Was it worth it?

Was it worth...

Everything?

I threw up on the snow, spattering, and coughed up more thick, green, pasty mucus.

This is the end.

I lay still, ready for my soul to separate my body, and fly off into the white sky. For the pain to end.

I had always wondered how I would die, and what it would feel like.

I didn't expect it to be this soon.

Would I even miss anything?

Anyone?

Nothing came to mind.

But then his little angelic face flashed in my eyes.

Jackson.

Jackson, and all of the other children.

But especially Jackson.

He was so different from the other children.

It was like there was this deeply rooted maturity inside of him that could not be rattled by anything that ever happened to him.

And at the very same time, he was a six-year-old boy who hated baths and obsessed over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

A thick layer of snow blew over me, a blanket to cover me as I floated off into a dream.

As frost began to seal my eyelids shut like a frozen glue, I cracked my eyes open, the icy grip of the storm squeezing out my life, drop for drop.

But before I could finally give into my ache for sleep and seal my eyes forever, my empty gaze caught sight of something breaking through the snow.

I squinted.

A monstrous white figure loomed above me.

I accepted my fate, at peace at last. An angel of God had come for me.

The white figure peered closer, and closer.

Closer ever still.

I shut my eyes, as they rolled into the back of my head.

Death is life's greatest adventure--

"Hey, you don't look so good."

I popped my eyes open.

I stared blankly at the snowlike figure.

Funny, I could have sworn angels didn't have white fur...
