Chapter 1

I look at her, under my fringe. The firelight around us lit up her face, making her seem more and more angelic. She's in the spotlight.

I'm pushed to the side, on the edge of the firelight. She prods the fire with a stick, causing sparks to fly upwards. A small, light blue flame licks the end of her stick. I poke at it, causing it to hiss a little, and spread to my stick.

She smiles at me. Whenever she smiles, her whole face lights up. Her eyes twinkle with a golden light - not just from the fire. Her teeth flash as she grins. It's hard to imagine she will lock herself away in a few years.

Of course looking back at the memories I recorded so long ago, I can almost see a hint of what's to come. Her smile fades once her dad walks out. She ducks down to hide under her dark hair. I - me in the memory - doesn't notice. I plonk a marshmallow on the end of the stick. The flame dies, and I stick it over the flames to cook. Her dad looks at us, then turns and goes back inside.

Her head stays ducked for while until she knows it's safe. Then she slowly looks back up. That's the moment younger me looks back at her and offers her the burning marshmallow. She smiles, and I smile back as she plucks the marshmallow from the stick and eats it.

The night slips past. We don't sleep much. Once the fire dies, we huddle in the tent together. To anyone else, it's just a girls sleepover.

To me, it's a night in heaven.

I wake up first the following morning. I can feel the tiredness in the memory, but also the cosy joy. I look at her. Her dark hair gleams in the rising sun that creeps though the tent. It shines and shimmers, reflecting a rainbow of colours into my eyes, lighting me up.

Then she wakes up. Her eyes - brown with hints of green and blue - flicker to my face and she grins again. She twists in the patchwork sleeping bag, then sits up.

"Ready?"

With that one word, I nod willingly. I know what she means. Of course I do.

We're at a festival. Not one of the huge ones - just a little, local festival. The Sparrow Star, to be precise. You can only get in if you know the owner. The owner is my mum's friends friend. She bought us along as a birthday treat. She trusts us to run free.

Yesterday we arrived. We had to help pitch camp and get ready for today. Now we could run free.

She pulled a twenty pound note out of her pocket, and smiled at me. I grinned back, and bought out my money. Not as much - only ten pounds. But back when we were young, it seemed like so much.

We look at the stalls first. Of course. She buy a feathered headband right off. I trail behind her, like I always do, and get myself a flower headband. She flicks a glance over her shoulder, smiles and takes my hand.

My heart beats faster. Even at that young age, I knew I loved her. But she must've taken it as a friendly action. That's what I told myself.

We arrived at a arty store. She quickly buys a little leather notebook with a little engraving I didn't see at the time on, a thing out of dreams. I smile and buy the same. Mine has a engraving too. I didn't see then. She doesn't protest, more smiles a little wider.

We wander off into the woods. There are countless activities going on, even with the lack of children. We go from clay making over to mask creating, then from tea tasting to a future telling.

The future telling stays in my head the most. She says I've found my love, but it'll take a while to receive the love back.

"You need to keep them prioritized. Or everything will fall apart." She said, smiling. "Don't worry - you look like a responsible girl."

I just nod, and smile, and move on.

We sit on trees for a while, drawing in charcoal in out new books. She sketches trees. I draw the first picture of her. Even with my young, sloppy hand, it's a master piece. I'd even discovered shading at that point. By the time I'm done, it's getting dark and she's just leaning against the tree trunk.

I nudge her with my foot. She looks up from the floor and smiles. "Let's go."

I agree gladly. On the way back, she buys some Casacrackers to share. We're about to head back to the tent when she stops. I pause and look back at her. She's looking at a store. While popping another cracker in my mouth, I look over. It's one we overlooked last time. Now they're ready to pack up for the night. The jewellery box is spilling on the grass.

Quick as a rabbit, she's over there, lending a hand. The jewellery is scooped up and put back into it's box quickly. The owner looks up and smiles at her. I blush a little and walk over slowly to join her, to help out.

It's sorted out quickly. The owner - a woman with a tie-dyed Tee and long, flowing dress - smiles at the two of us.

"Thanks for the help." She says. "Here, you two take something."

Me and her exchange a glance, then a smile. She heads for the clothes, while I peek at the jewellery. I'm about to join her when a thin necklace catches my attention.

It's a friendship type of necklace. But it's missing it's other half. A bird in mid-flight. I close my fist around it and turn back to her.

She's selected a flowing, too big, patchwork jacket. The woman smiles at us both, and turns back into her store to pack up.

We return to the camp with beaming faces, slightly more empty pockets and light hearts.

Is Wattpad only being weird for me?

Or is it like this for everyone?

Hmmmm.

Anywho, I've realized I suck at romance. Of any type. So I thought I'd do the one I can relate to the most, to try to improve that genre. Because if not I'll be terrible. Plus you guys - you know who you are - told me to do this, so here you go. LGBT+

I mean, the main character is going to be full out lesbian, and I'm only bisexual - but I hope it's gonna be close enough.

If you have anything you want to talk about - anything at all - I'm always on here. I've got very little social life. Feel free to pop me a PM, and I'll probably get back to it within twenty four hours. I'm good like that.

Until next time,

~Glitch.
