Hi, I'm Frank Gilborn and joining me here today is Joni Bellowes, two time US men's figure skating champion, whose career was dramatically cut short last year at the World Figure Skating semifinals in Stockholm. Joni is here to provide insight and color commentary on today's Olympic Men's Figure Skating. Welcome Joni.

Well thank you, Frank. It is a pleasure to be here. I would, of course, much rather be down there on the ice, competing with my fellow skaters. But, sigh, that is just not to be.

Joni, before we get started I just wanted to share with our viewers the tragic overnight events. A good friend and protegee of yours, Timmy Mcbloom, died last night, apparently as a result of a fall on the ice.

Yes, Frank, it is very tragic. The buzz is that he was secretly practicing a new jump after the venue had closed last night. It just goes to underscore how dangerous some of these jumps can be.

Timmy, of course, went on to win the world title last year after your training accident. He was widely considered to be the favorite for gold at these Olympics. So who does that leave, Joni? You have been watching the practice runs for the last few days, who has caught your eye?

Well, Frank before I get started on that, let me just say that my injury last year was no training accident. It happened as we were all warming up on the ice for the semifinals. Someone deliberately distracted me as I was beginning my signature jump, the triple toe-in looped lutz. I came down wrong on my ankle. Four surgeries later, here I am, in a damn commentators box instead of down there, on the ice, where I deserve to be.

Well, uh,<clears throat> yes, that certainly must be a great disappointment for you. We should note that no one else has ever successfully done the triple toe-in looped lutz. But there are some fantastic skaters out there on the ice today. Who should we be watching?

Frank, you have no idea how difficult that move was to perfect. These younger skaters want it all without putting in the work. There's a reason no one else does the jump.

Well, isn't it just a factor of body science? If you analyze the moves and train your body, any good skater should be able to do it?

They think, just because I won with it for two consecutive US competitions that it is easy. I guess Timmy found out that it isn't so easy.

I'm, uh, not sure what you mean, Joni.

That was his secret move that he was going to win the Olympics with. My Tt-iLL is the jump he was practicing last night.

<hoarse voice> Joni, what did you do?

He got what he deserved after what he did last year . We were all on the ice, warming up. I was about to do my Tt-iLL when he shouted out "Break a Leg"...
