Ch 4 - Carriber
Carriber Stone
Carriber clutches the letter to his chest. He smiles and begins reading it for the fifth time.
Dear Carriber,
Thank you, very much. Your words of encouragement and optimism were so good that you... almost inspired me. I am really lucky to be assigned a pen pal like you. You have given me so much encouragement that I feel like I can make everything right. And mind you, I will. For sure. But a lot of times life throws me these sort of rough phases, I think. A lot. And for some reason, I want to share it with you. So please don't mind my rambling. A lot of times, I feel alone. Even when a lot of people are there around me, I feel terribly alone and want to go cry in a corner about it. Many times the thought if my friends actually like me, cross my mind. It makes the other person's every action count, and it sucks. Don't get me wrong, I do love Nina. But sometimes these insecurities, make even her seem like a bad person. When we fight, I convince myself it is also her fault but in the end I know but almost refuse to accept it is just my fault. I wasn't like this, honestly. About two to three years ago. I had a friend, Heather McCella. We both were best of friends. We were so close that some people thought we were sisters, and also called us Allie McCella and Heather Watson. I trusted her a lot. So much that I was definitely sure, she would never ever talk behind my back. But, one day. It all shattered. She started ruining me without even me knowing about it. She back stabbed me, start spreading rumours about me, made me break up wih my then boyfriend, and also started distracting me from my studies. Luckily, my sister, Rose, who was in the school with me understood what was happening and showed me the truth. That month was devastating. I literally lost a sister. I became like a... zombie. I became lost. But with the help of Rose and Nina, I got back normal and left that phrase. But, I guess, the impact is still in there. No matter whatever happens, it will haunt me. But now, I don't feel like it. After reading your words, I am thinking what I might be thinking it as devastating, must be actually foolish. So, thank you very much, Carriber Stone. I owe you a lot. It is pretty irrational on my part to actually talk about Heather to an almost-unknown person. I am reluctant to talk about it to Nina itself. But I guess, talking to strangers is way easier than talking to an actual friend. Maybe, because they don't judge you as much as real known people do. But anyways, thank you.
Allie. (P.S. this is a small token from me. And I mean small)
Carriber had found another paper in it with a list of something written on it. It was a mixture list of all of Allie's favorite songs. And, surprisingly, Carriber knew more than half of them and liked them, and when he heard the ones he didn't know, he started liking them too.
Now he sits re-reading Allie's letter again and again. The way she opened up to him so quick and actually told him about her past kept him smiling him and he finds himself relating to her words.
He finally decides to write his letter for her.
Dear Allie,
Wow. Just wow. Nobody ever trusted me with such a thing, so fast ever like that. Ever. The sincerity in your words and the way you wrote them actually made me feel them. I'm lucky too, to have a pen pal like you who isn't afraid to show exactly how she feels without exaturating or cutting out a few parts. The honesty in your words has made me like you a lot, now. I have gained a new respect for you. Not because you went through such a pain. But because you are ready to completely forget it. Go. Make up with Nina. After all, she cares for you and you care for her. Don't let a Heather come in between your friendship. And thank you for the music list. I must say, you've got a nice choice in music. Which song is your favorite? Mine is Chasing The Sun by The Wanted. Reply soon.
Carriber.
