Ch 9 - Allie
Allie Watson
Allie is woken up on her birthday by her ringtone. She grumbles but decides to pick it up.
"Hello..." she says not even noticing who the caller was.
"Allie! Happy birthday, sis!"
She suddenly sits unright and attentive. "Rose. Rose is that you? As in Rose Watson?"
Her elder sister, Rose, chuckles and replies, "Yes. It is Rose Watson. Happy birthday, birthday girl."
"Thank you so much!"
"Dad came?"
"Yes," Allie says cheerfully. "He came yesterday. Says he got a surprise from me, but refuses to tell me what."
Rose laughs from the other line. "Of course he wouldn't. It supposed to be a surprise."
"Yeah yeah. Whatever."
"Okay, Allie. I have to go now. Happy birthday once again and have fun."
"Bye."
After cutting the call, Allie takes a nice shower dresses in a new yet simple green and yellow sundress.
Downstairs, her parents wish her and keep a plate of bacon in front of her.
Soon, even Nina joins them for coffee.
"Aunty. Uncle. I am abducting your daughter and taking her to the mall."
Her parents chuckle and give permission. "But be here for lunch!" Allie's dad reminds them.
Allie and Nina reach the mall. After stopping Allie in front of some shops, Nina turns to her.
"Today. Pick whatever gift you want. I'm just going to be paying."
"Really?" she asks her best friends excitedly. Allie grabs her hand and takes her into the nearest shop.
Twenty minutes later Allie once again admires her beautiful set of bangles and earrings that Nina bought for her.
"Where do you want to go next?"
"Um," starts Allie. "How about the arcade?"
Nina grins. "What are we waiting for? Let's go!"
Two hours later, Allie amd Nina grin at each other before agreeing to leave to reach home by lunch.
"Thanks, Nina... today was really awesome," Allie says gratefully.
Nina rolls her eyes. "God, Allie! Stop being so sentimental."
"Sure, you don't want to join us for lunch?" Allie asks.
"Yeah. Spend time with your family." She smiles.
Allie kisses her best friend on the cheek and gives her a goodbye hug and leaves.
"Mom, I'm home," she announces out of habit.
"In the kitchen!" her mother hollers out.
"Sweetie," Allie's mother says when she enters the kitchen, "you have a letter for yourself."
"Oh. Thanks."
Outside, she seemed normal; but inside there was a huge bubble of excitement. Carriber wrote to me!
She took the parcel and left for her room with her mom shouting, "Where are you going? Lunch is almost ready!"
She ignores and closes the door to her room.
Dear Allie,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one of the most special person in my life! And thank you so much for yellow t-shirt. I loved it a lot, and so did my family. Even I thought it would've been nice if we could see each other face to face, but alas no regrets. You find me cute? Err... thanks. Geez, I was smiling like an idiot when I read it! And you are so beautiful. Not cute, not pretty. But beautiful. I never told a girl that she is beautiful. You're the first. I am honestly, not sure on how to react to that. Oh, by the way, I read The Book Thief. God, it was really good! I think I'll even watch the movie sometime soon. I love it. And thank you. Did you start with Paper Towns? Once again, happy birthday and have a blast!
Carriber. (P.S. tell me if you liked the gift)
Allie opens the packet to reveal a chain. It is simple with a small locket. And behind the locket was a message.
To Allie, from your dearest friend, Carriber.
Allie is overwhelmed. There were butterflies in her stomach and her face is going giggling whenever she thinks about Carriber.
Clutching the locket to her chest, she smiles.
