4: Capture
The above artwork does not belong to me. Sorry for the long wait, guys!
This seriously sucks.
Danny sighed as he sucked the last ghost into the thermos. Some random vultures had escaped from the Zone, like the ones Vlad used. It'd taken him a little while to catch them.
"Stupid birds," he grumbled, annoyed.
There were other ghost hunters out there, apparently, but it never seemed like anyone else helped him and his friends. What about the Justice League? Weren't they supposed to keep people safe, or were ghosts not part of their job description?
The halfa groaned as he saw something else flying over the skyline. If they only sent one hero to help, he would be happy. Just one, to prove that they cared. Heck, he'd even be willing to teach them how to ghost hunt. Was that so much to ask?
He flew closer to whatever was floating over a couple of tall buildings. Oh crap, he thought. Valerie.
Danny ducked down behind a billboard before she could see him, since he really wasn't in the mood for another confrontation. Of course, it had to be one of those Masters for mayor billboards. Yuck.
Once the coast was clear, Danny flew away, lower to the ground but high enough not to be reached by anyone below. He was pretty sure there weren't any more ghosts lurking around. It was nice to fly, though.

What's he doing? Wally muttered via telepathic link. He and his team had just watched the ghost teen pull a few of his enemies into a thermos (why a thermos, of all things?), and now he was hiding behind a billboard from some girl on a hoverboard.
Robin mentally shrugged. Maybe she's a ghost hunter who hunts him?
Artemis huffed. So there's a ghostly ghost-hunting robot, a ghostly ghost-hunting teen, and flying ghost-hunting girl? This town is pretty frickin' weird.
Yeah, but we've seen weirder things, Miss Martian reminded her jokingly.
Where is he going now? Aqualad wondered. They all focused their attention back on him from their different vantage points.
Just . . . flying for the fun of it? Conner guessed.
Phantom continued cruising around the city, mildly keeping an eye out for trouble. Whenever he passed people, he waved. Most excitedly took pictures, but a few glared.
At one point, someone threw trash at him, screaming about their workplace being destroyed. Phantom slowed down. "You're from the Nasty Burger, right?"
The guy seemed surprised, but you could tell that Phantom had gotten it right. "Look, I'm sorry it got trashed a couple weeks ago, but that ghost was powerful and I couldn't avoid the fight. I'm sure they'll take you back if you reapply," he called as he sped off.
Wally was totally taken by surprise.
That was . . . not what I was expecting, Zatanna muttered.
This doesn't change the plan, Robin reminded them. He might be a nice guy, but we have to make sure.
Everyone ready? Aqualad asked.
The team gave their words of assent, and they sprang into action.

Danny was thinking about going to Sam's soon when something caught his eye.
There was an old lady, surrounded by a bunch of punk kids in hoodies. He usually didn't get into that kind of stuff, as most people weren't stupid enough to steal in the presence of a vigilante. But he couldn't just leave an old lady to fend for herself.
Danny landed behind them, his hands alighting in green energy. Ever since the Bill incident, he had been able to produce cold blue flames as well, and he added those to the mix to make it twice as intimidating. "Scram, punks," he growled.
Never directly looking at him, the hooded teenagers backed away. Danny swept his cool green gaze over them before stepping closer to the old lady. "Hey, are you okay?"
She smiled sweetly. "Oh, quite fine, thank you."
Then her face began to morph, the wrinkles fading back into her skin as she turned green. Her shoulders straightened. She thinned, her clothes changing, until she became a teenager.
Danny stumbled back, frightened. "The shifter! I put you back in the ghost zone! Shouldn't you be dead?"
Her face crinkled in confusion, but there was no time for her to say anything else as the hooded group of kids reappeared, this time without the hoods.
Danny floated into the air above them, alarmed. "Why would you ambush me of all people? You're sidekicks, aren't you?"
A few of their faces soured. One of the ones Danny recognized, Robin, narrowed his eyes. "You're coming with us, Phantom."
"Yeah, I'm not going anywhere with a shapeshifter and a bunch of brightly colored--"
Something sharp whizzed past his ear and stuck in the wall behind him. He glanced at it. It was one of those ninja boomerang things that Batman had.
And it was ticking.
Danny realized what was about to happen right before it did. He flew towards the street, hoping to escape the blast, but it was already too late.
The small bomb exploded, the shock wave slamming him into the ground. He hit his head, nearly blacking out.
As if they'd all heard some signal, the young supers surged forward as one, pinning Danny to the ground. He was dazed, and could barely think.
"Come quietly, please," a dark-skinned boy said. "We wish to ask you some questions."
"No thanks," Danny grunted. "I think I'll stay here."
"Just tranquilize him already," a girl said impatiently.
Danny's eyes widened. He focused on keeping his ghost form as a needle pricked his skin.
As he felt himself growing drowsy, he made one last attempt to break free. He kicked at the supers. He was too dazed to go intangible or use any powers.
"Don't . . ." Danny muttered as darkness clouded his vision.
He was out cold within moments.
