WWJD?

'Where could it be?' She slammed her fist on the keyboard.Delilah searched and searched, her heart dropping with each folder she opened. The schedule wasn't on Jane's computer. 'Blair's always been a stickler, so where's that document? Maybe she erased it as retaliation. She's jealous that I'm on top now.'

It was an irritating thought. Scoffing to herself, Delilah stole a quick peek to Ricky's door. Seeing his attention on his computer, Delilah took out her phone and messaged Mimi. The whore's trying to sabotage me. I need the notes she's keeping from me. Get them.

Jane was bored. This was so boring to her. She sat in the cuticle, basically going though previous files Delilah left behind - all of which she had submitted major mistakes to them. Since Delilah was 'promoted', Ted took great satisfaction dumping the work onto Jane. It wasn't that the raven-haired female couldn't handle it - she dealt with worse.

It was just so boring and not challenging. Jane guessed she was just used to having more work thrown at her by Ricky or having to think on the spot with certain decisions concerning the firm. Not to mention plan out her boss's meetings and set up the setting...and those dreaded 'celebrations' where lawyers use it as an excuse to get drunk.

It was just more stimulating than sitting at a desk, going over minor mistakes that could have been caught during the revisions. 'As if Deliliah reviewed her work.' Jane bitterly thought. On the plus side, Jane got to get off on time, and she didn't have to bring work home. It was odd, but enjoyable. She did miss her desk where it was just her. Working in a cuticle surrounded by people made her anxious. She had this feeling of always being watched and that didn't come from the stalker two cuticles down from her.

She could swear that the people around followed her with their eyes whenever she got up. She could hear soft whispers conversing among themselves. Yet when she returned, everything became silent. What made it more eerie was that those whispers seemed to grow as the day went on and Jane couldn't figure out why.

She wasn't a freak on display, so why was she made to feel like one?

'Just block it out.' She told herself. 'You're here to work. This is what you're paid for.' She couldn't wait to be back at her own desk.

"Um, how are you doing?" Mimi smiled awkwardly. The timid girl sweated with the stoic glance thrown her way. "How are you adjusting to the change?"

Mimi often hung around Delilah, although she came off as the weaker person. Mimi was shorter than Jane and although she dressed up and did beautiful makeup, she wore huge glasses that made her eyes bigger than they actually were. Jane never had a one on one conversation with Mimi - the lady usually stayed quiet while Delilah spoke.

Still...a friend of Delilah was an enemy to Jane. Mimi wasn't to be trusted. "It's not much of an adjustment." Jane answered, cautiously. "It's just surprisingly less work than what I usually do." She observed the other for any sort of reaction.

Mimi's eyes widened in shock. "Really?" she asked genuinely surprised. "But Delilah does the most work in the office. She's known for it."

"Yeah right," Everett chimed in. "With the help of others." Stretching out the kinks in his back, Everett continued. "And mainly with the help of Mimi."

"That's not true." Mimi defended like a true friend. "The only time I help is when she needs it. She gets swamped with so much work."

"Sure." Everett rolled his eyes.

Jane pondered as the two bickered. It didn't shock her to learn Delilah got help with work. The woman was sloppy and everything turned into a mess whenever she had to fill Jane's position. Jane always had something to fix upon her return.

But that work was worse than the ones Jane was tasked with reviewing. Delilah could have purposely made Jane's work worse out of spite, or it could be because in Jane's position, nobody could help Delilah. At least not at the same level as they could in close range.

"How much, would you say, you helped Delilah with the paperwork?" Jane asked, breaking up the argument.

"Not much - to my knowledge." Mimi timidly answered as she fixed her glasses on her face. "I only helped here and there when she needed it the most."

Jane nodded. "Understood." Her mind paced back and forth. There were a lot of things that needed to be corrected with these files, but something about how they were written seemed too neat for a person like Delilah to write. "Would you mind going over these with me?" She had a hunch. "If you helped Delilah with this, then you know more about these files than I do. I just want to make sure I am getting this right."

Mimi didn't want to help Jane. Helping her felt like some sort of betrayal to Delilah. But then how would she get to go through Jane's computer? Delilah needed that schedule. She felt bad thinking of a quid-quo-pro scheme, but it was for a good cause. After all, without Delilah, Mimi wouldn't survive in this office.

Forcing her best natural smile, Mimi agreed on a condition. "Sure, but in return, can I look through your computer? You work pretty fast. I want to see if I could pick up any tips to be more efficient."

It was an obvious lie. Jane could smell it. Also, the shy girl sucked at pulling off a poker face. Her eyes kept darting to the side. 'She needs something for Delilah.'

"That's fair." Jane scooted for Mimi to join her. It was a gamble she needn't worry about taking because unlike Delilah Kohler, Jane had nothing to hide. "I look forward to learning from you."

"Same here."

"I want to work with you too!" Everett pleaded hopefully. He inched closer to the ladies.

"You stay over there." Jane sternly warned.

Both girls ignored the guy's whine and focused on the tasks in front of them. Mimi did it. She had access to Jane Blair's computer. Finding those schedules should be a walk in the park...so she thought.

The search ended with Mimi resting her head on the desk. She checked every file (Which was a lot!), every email sent to receive spam and trash; not to mention the history. Nothing. Jane had nothing. Needless to say, Delilah was mad when told and made that transparently clear.

Delilah had come around lunchtime and invited all the girls out except Mimi - obviously Jane wasn't invited either but the raven didn't care. She headed out to grab lunch, giving Mimi space to crash out mentally.

"This isn't good." Mimi hated this. "But what can I do?" She didn't realize she spent a good amount of time bemoaning the situation until Jane returned.

"You can eat this sandwich." Jane answered the open question. She dangled a Mr. Sub bag in front of Mimi's face. "I noticed you weren't with the others so I brought you a sandwich. Hope it's acceptable."

Mimi eyed the bad warily before cautiously accepting it. "Thank you." She never took Jane for being thoughtful.

Jane returned to her work, munching on her own lunch. What she learned going through the papers with Mimi, is that a hefty chunk of Delilah's work was done by Mimi. Those were the documents that weren't much of a pain correcting. It was also somewhat an eye opener for Mimi.

The woman didn't realize just how much Delilah asked for help. It was somewhat irking physically seeing the piles she has worked on for Delilah. It was more than she thought and she did it along with her own work!

As the two worked, Jane discreetly marked each document that Mimi worked on. "The food's delicious." Mimi said between petite bites. She paused when Jane gave a tiny grin.

"I'm glad."

Mimi must be fickle. She knew that was her toxic trait. The young woman momentarily imagined what it was like to be like Jane. To be brave enough to confront Delilah and tell the office queen 'no' whenever asked to do something. Mimi didn't have that kind of bravery. She caved pretty easily to the popular girls in the office.

If she didn't, work would be hell.
Lunchtime was proof of it.

Mimi could never quite fit in with crowds...she always stood out because of how soft she was. It made her an easy target for bullies. Bullies weren't so mean to her when she stood near Delilah. Delilah was her friend...she'll be a pariah if Delilah broke off their friendship.

Jane didn't fit in either. From the day Jane first arrived, the girls disliked her, but Jane never cared. All those snickers and backhanded compliments seemly slid off Jane's back. But she also had no qualm standing her ground when the line was crossed.

She stood so tall.

"It must be freeing." Shy Mimi murmured. Shame crept over her. "I wish I was like you."

"That's a silly thing to say." Mindlessly, Jane retorted without having to look up from the work. "I like who you are, just as you are, Mimi."

She hadn't meant to voice her thoughts. "Is that an insult or compliment?" The girl couldn't tell.

Jane never skipped a beat. "It's a compliment." She continued marking some papers. "I was cautious at first, being that you're best friends with Delilah. I imagined you would've given me a hard time like her lackeys, but you're pretty chill to be around. You're pretty smart and organization skills are great. The way you word things is easy to follow. Overall, I'm enjoying myself working with you. I would rather work beside you than someone akin to myself." She chuckled to herself. "I can be a bit...uptight with my work and standoffish."

Another thing Mimi was realizing for the first time was how nice Jane was - in her own way. Everybody she'd known had always asked for Mimi's help or needed the girl for support. Mimi had always handed out compliments. She had always been the one to drop everything in her life for other people and never once received anything similar in return.

Receiving a compliment felt nice.
It felt so warm to the heart.

It didn't make work any more comfortable, though. Along with the creeping shame came probing guilt. It beseech Mimi to apologize for what she tried doing, along with what she has helped done.

As soon as it was quitting time, Jane punched out. She wished Mimi farewell, and left first. Mimi took her time. Regret weighed down every move she made.

"How much do you want to bet she's going to seduce Ted?" Her ears perked up at her male coworker's conversation.

"Is that even a bet? I mean most likely she's going to do that. She got away with it with the owner - Ted's easy picking compared to that."

"True. It's such a shame, though. To hide a body like that. If she were more approachable, I would take a shot." The guys all laughed, walking out.

The shame grew inside the wide glasses wearing girl. She wished she hadn't helped Delilah with those photos. This guilt felt so heavy as she exited the building.

It only intensified as her 'best friend' approached her outside the firm. "I looked like an idiot today." Delilah stared Mimi down as if she were a disappointed mother scolding her child. "I asked for one thing and you let me down. You know how stupid I looked when potential clients came in for consultation? You have no idea how hard today was for me because you didn't help me. I thought we were besties."

'I could say the same.' Mimi bit her lip, humiliated at being chastised. Delilah deliberately made her feel guilty and questioned if she should have tried harder. 'Why am I like this?'

"I tried...there was nothing."

"Bull!" Delilah flicked her hair back. "This is Jane Blair we're talking about. She's petty, not to mention jealous of me. I bet she's hogging those schedules on a personal email or her note app from her phone. I need it by tomorrow."

"If that's true." Mimi doubted it. "How am I supposed to get it?

Delilah rolled her eyes. "Take her phone, duh?"

Mimi's jaw dropped. "I can't do that!" She could lose her job for that and there were people counting on her back home. Also, that would go on her record if she gets caught. Finding a new job like this would become impossible. "I - I'm not doing that." She flinched at the glare thrown in her direction. "I can't lose this job," Her voice quivered. "Just...just figure this out on your own."

She really wished that it came out more convincing than it actually sounded. If only she were more like Jane. She could say no and walk away.

"What?" Delilah quipped, silencing the shorter girl. She scoffed. "I see how it is. That tramp is your bestie now, is that it? Well, so be it." Threateningly, she got closer to the other woman. "I'll figure it out myself but keep this in mind; keep that mouth of yours shut." She smirked, playing with her new favorite necklace. "After all, you're not without guilt either, bestie."

Mimi couldn't feel her legs after Delilah walked away. They shook, struggling to hold the girl up. She was done for. Mimi knew it. Delilah would make sure of it. Grabbing her head, Mimi felt like puking. "What do I do?"

'What would Jane do?'

Jane moved around the food she was cooking when her phone chimed. She looked at it, perplexed at the email she received from Mimi. The header was simple: We need to talk.
