Rules
The following isn't exactly a poem. More like a spill of words that may or may not sound majestic. (I dunno—we'll see.)
* * *
I don't know
What I was thinking
That day
Giving you a way to get in touch
Maybe you didn't deserve that much
I didn't have any idea in mind
What was I after?
I can't say
Maybe it was part of the plan
It needed to happen
To change a few aspects
Of who I am
Maybe someone needed to show you
What commitment
Really is
And maybe I needed to be taught
That rules are made
To be kept
I don't know why
You came into my life
I don't know why
I couldn't see
How did I not predict
The pain you would cause me?
Here's to me believing every word
Every lie
I can tell you honestly
That I meant every word
I never said anything
Carelessly
I trusted you too much
I thought you honestly
Treasured my words
And my company
And maybe you did
But you didn't earn it
I was so scared the whole time
And you proved I had a reason
To be
I knew there was a risk involved
But I trusted you
When I shouldn't have
But I did
And I can't change it
So here I am
Saying goodbye to any proof
That you were ever here
You won't win me over
With your excuses
I deserve something better than
Half the truth
Here I am
Deleting messages
Pictures
But the memories won't be so easy
But I think I'll keep them
As a reminder
Of rules I need to keep.
