"May, honey come downstairs! Your father is on TV!" May rushed down the stairs, excited to see a glimpse of her father Norman, a great pokemon gym leader. May is a new pokemon trainer, hoping that someday she will take over her father's gym. May had just moved into Littleroot town. She moved in next to another pokemon trainer Brendan. May's mom was always telling her to go over there. One day May finally did.

"Hello?" May knocked on the door. Brendan's mother answered the door. "Oh! You must be our new neighbor May! Brendan has been excited to meet you. He's just upstairs in his room." May thought it was a little weird to go into a boy's room, especially since she had never met him before.

May knocked on the door. "Come on in!" replied Brendan, although the words were somewhat muddled through the door. May walked in to find Brendan playing video games and staring at the TV with his fingers moving across the controller like they had a mind of their own. When he finally pulled away from the hypnotic state the video game had put him in, a puzzled look flashed across his face. "Who are you?" he said. 

"I'm May. Your new neighbor."

"Oh..."

"Anything wrong?"

"Sorry I guess I was just expecting a boy to move in, oh well."

Brendan got up and walked over to May. He then said, "I'm going over to my father's lab. You can come if you want." Brendan walked past May without another word and set off to his father's lab that was just across from his house. May followed him to the living room then stopped to say goodbye to his mother. His mother said, "Now don't forget when you go off into the world of pokemon to visit your mother from time to time." May decided that the lab could wait, she wanted to explore Littleroot just a little more.

May walked around, seeing there wasn't much to Littleroot. It was honestly quite little, like the name said. When she walked past an exit to route 103 she saw a little boy standing there.  "Why are you standing there?" May asked.

"I heard screams coming this way. I don't know what to do!" May started running through the exit. 

When she came through the entrance, she found a man screaming help, running around in circles being chased by a wild pokemon, it appeared to be a Poochyena. The man continued screaming help, but then he saw May, and he yelled to her, "I have some pokeballs in my bag, use my pokemon to defeat this wild pokemon! May instantaneously started looking through his bag and found a pokeball that was almost vibrating with a hum. May picked it up and yelled "POKEBALL GO!" May threw it towards the wild pokemon, ready for a fight.

The pokemon that the man had in his pokeball was Zigzagoon, and May was right, it was a Poochyena chasing after him that she would have to defeat. May's first move was scratch. The Poochyena's HP fell drastically. The Poochyena fainted.

The man fell to his knees, relieved to have stopped running. He said, "You must be pretty good for a new pokemon trainer." May stuttered knowing how he knew that she was a new pokemon trainer. "Aren't you are a new pokemon trainer? Because I heard that there was a family with an aspiring pokemon trainer on their hands. Word gets around quickly in Littleroot, and I could tell that by the way you fought you were probably new. Come on, let's go to the lab." He said. 

May followed him back into Littleroot to the lab. When she cam into the lab she saw the man who turned out to be a researcher standing next to Brendan. "You did quite well for a new trainer, so I would like you to have one of these pokemon. He grabbed 3 pokeballs from a side table, on the right there was one containing Mudkip, on the left was Treecko, and in the middle Torchic. After some thought, May chose the Torchic and nicknamed it Torchy. "Oh a Torchic, good choice." The researcher picked up the remaining two pokeballs and put them back.

"Hey May you finally got here!" Brendan said. "Next time I see you maybe we can have a duel." Brendan then left the lab, leaving May with the researcher. "Now here. This is called a pokedex. It can help track the pokemon you've seen and caught. It also gives you information about the types of pokemon and other useful information about your pokemon. "Oh I can't believe I almost forgot! After all this time I still haven't told you my name! You can call me Professor Birch, and before you go , let me update your pokenav." may gave him her pokenav. She waited a few moments. "Okay here you go. Now you also have the Dexnav. That will show you where different pokemon are around you." With that May said thank you and left. Professor Birch called out "Don't forget to come back time to time and show me how you've developed your pokedex!" May nodded and waved and walked out the door.
