❝ maybe i'm just alone and afraid.❞  

FAINT, BLARING HORNS in the far distance cause commuters to move slowly as one to the waiting line. seconds later, a pair of strong headlights comes into view, the rest of the train covered in heavy snow. windows are frosted, snowflakes barely melting at all. as the massive vehicle enters the station, bringing with it strong gusts of wind, coats and hair alike are lifted simultaneously. cold is an understatement ; nearly everyone is eager to spill into the comfort of the cabins where there is warmth. 

jeon jeongguk, however, isn't part of the majority.

with slow steps and fingers that tighten around the straps of his backpack, the young man makes his way from the bench to the forming line. he can't help but glance back every few seconds in the direction of his home, wishing he has photographic memory. but to be honest, even if he does, it wouldn't be of much comfort. he knows he would miss this place— his hometown. the uneven and bumpy, yet familiar roads that lead him back home, that single spoilt streetlamp that flickers every once in awhile, the corners of the quiet street.

he misses it all already.

as people stream in and out of the cabins, jeongguk casts one last glance around. tries to memorize as many things as he could. the freezing gusts of wind bite at his exposed skin, as if to remind him of his misery. lingering steps become short, rapid ones as he welcomes the warmth emitting from the heat radiators that are spread throughout the train.

finding an empty seat, he settles down and plugs in his earphones. leans back into the seat and rests his head against the glass windows, feeling the cool seep into his warm scalp. a beep sounds before the train doors gently close. 

and so does jeongguk's eyes.
