Ch. 6
Shadowhunters season 2 just premiered and I'm pumped!! Here's some more Malec <3
Magnus's POV
"Magnus I swear," are the first three words I wake up to. What lovely words they are. They were uttered in an annoyed voice which is a little bit of a turnoff but I still want to bang the person who said them.
"It's the first day of classes, it's like not cool to miss them," he mutters weirdly. 'Not cool?' What? I dare to crack one eye open and wish I hadn't. Alec has our blinds rolled up, letting large streaks of sunlight into the room.
"Close the blinds," I demand in a hoarse voice. My head pounds from the party I went to last night and I can still taste vodka on my tongue.
Alec doesn't do as I say but instead rips the covers off of my body.
"ALEC WHAT THE FU-"
"I'm leaving in 5 minutes with or without you," he tells me stubbornly, ignoring my outburst. I groan and tumble out of the bed with the grace of a wildebeest. I don't know why I signed up for an 8 am class but I did. I'm not looking forward to Gov. but I stumble towards my dresser just because I don't want Alec to leave me. That's when I notice the smell of toast and eggs coming from our tiny kitchen. I turn to face Alec and find him smiling faintly at me.
"Thank you," I say and I mean it. I can't cook worth crap and it makes me happy to have a roommate who can and will cook for the both of us.
"Hurry up so you can eat," Alec tells me. I listen to him and quickly pull on the new red shirt that I got and a pair of black skinny jeans with black boots. I run my fingers through my hair and wash my face before I take a seat at the small table. Alec sets down a plate full of toast, eggs, and yogurt down in front of me with a steaming cup of what I assume is tea. Sitting next to the glass are two Advil for my hangover and a napkin. I'm really touched that he put this all together for me.
"It wasn't for you, I was hungry and I made extras," Alec scoffs, almost reading my mind. I don't believe him but I don't say anything.
I shovel down the food which is actually amazing. The eggs are fluffy and well seasoned and the toast is done perfectly. I take a swig of the tea and find it to be a pleasantly spicy chai tea.
"Let's go, we have class in ten minutes," Alec chides, trying to get me to move just a little bit faster. I finish my breakfast and together we rush out the door.
The air is cold and crisp for it being September. We walk across the campus grass towards the history building as quickly as we can without breaking into a run. Silence is thick between us and I know that Alec is cursing himself for not leaving without me. I give Alec a sideways glance and smile when I see his curly dark hair tucked beneath the purple beanie we bought yesterday. He looks tired but almost excited for our first class.
"You look cute," I say and I mean it, not because I don't want him to be mad at me, but because I genuinely think he's cute. He scowls however, and huffs.
"That's not going to make me forgive you, try harder," he says coldly and we walk in silence for a couple more seconds before I try again.
"I didn't say it because I don't want you to be mad at me. You are cute," I tell him as sincerely as I can and I can practically see his eye roll from here.
"Great, guys really like being called cute," he grumbles seconds before we reach the building.
I put my hand on the door, not letting him open it. He turns and glares at me but I smile.
"Let me make it up to you; I'll buy us lunch," I say and touch the tip of his nose, feeling satisfaction as he flushes. He looks like he'd rather shut his fingers in a car door than accept my offer but like most of my prey, he's curious.
"O-ok," he stutters and looks down at his feet.
"Good," I say and move a step away from him.
I let he door go and he opens it without a second thought. The building is eerily quiet and I can't help but feel a little nervous. We walk to the end of the hall where our classroom is. Everything is silent but the sounds of the professor speaking and roughly a hundred law students turning around to look at us. I glance over at Alec whose face has turned the color of a rose but I stay strong and smile at the attention. The professor turns to face us and raises a brow.
"You must be Magnus and Alec," he calls from the front of the room towards us. We stand at the back, at the very top of the stairs. At least 6 rows are between us and the prof, each at a different height so everyone can see him.
"Yes that's right," I say at the same time Alec says "I'm so sorry that we're late sir."
The prof nods and scribbles something into his binder before looking back up at us.
"Well thank you for volunteering to sit in the front row," he says with a smile, gesturing to two empty seats right in front of him. We walk towards the front of the classroom in silence, the weight of every students' eyes on us. I personally don't mind the attention but Alec is probably coming up with 25 ways to kill me or himself.
We take our seats and the prof continues his lesson. The time is 8:00, we were on time.
I don't bother to take notes because I simply don't need to but Alec is scribbling away in earnest. I can feel the tension in his body and it worries me a little bit. If he's this worried on the first day then he's in for a rough time. I slowly reach over to him and grab his left hand. He stops writing and looks at me like I've gone mad but I give him a reassuring smile and squeeze his hand. He seems to relax a little because I feel his fingers wrap around mine.
We sit like this for the rest of the lesson with my hand in his. He bolts from his chair as soon as the bell rings and begins walking away quickly.
"Alec!" I call after him and he turns with a raised brow.
"What?" He asks.
"Where are you off to in such a hurry?" I ask with an amused smile and he considers my question for a moment before he answers.
"Oh I guess I was just gonna go back to our room before our next class," he says and blushes.
"Oh yes..what time is our next class?" I ask, honestly not recalling my schedule at all.
"It's at 1:30 and it's 10:30 now," he says and I nod.
"Ok I'll bring some lunch to our room, I have to take care of something," I explain and he nods his head before placing the beanie back over those adorable curls.
He walks up the stairs to the door, leaving me alone with the professor. I walk over to him slowly with my head held high.
"Mr. Elliot I'd like to talk to you about this morning," I say smoothly and he looks up from his papers. His cold blue eyes meet mine and he raises a brow.
"Magnus is it?" He asks, picking up his briefcase and slinging it over his shoulder.
"Yes," I say and he smiles but it's not a nice smile at all.
"I have a feeling you're the reason that other boy was late," he assumes.
"Yes I'm the reason Alec is late, I just wanted to apologize," I say and he looks at me like he's scanning my soul and thoughts.
"Do you really?" He asks and I look at him strangely.
"Do I really what?" I ask, slightly confused.
"Do you really want to apologize or do you just want Alec to forgive you for making him late?" He questions and I smile slowly.
"I can't see why it would concern you if I do just want his forgiveness," I say slowly with my signature smirk.
"Ahhh I see. Well Mr. Bane, if you really want his forgiveness then maybe you should get to my class on time because I could make things much worse than just sitting in the front row," he warns me lowly and I nod: message received.
"Noted sir," I say and turn to leave the class when he stops me again.
"Oh and Mr. Bane, I noticed that you didn't take any notes in my class.....is there a reason why?" He asks me and I turn back to look at him.
"I don't need to," I say simply and leave the room, loving the thought that I got the last word.
I walk quickly across the campus grass and towards the small row of possible restaurants. Alec seems like he'd like salad or soup or maybe a nice sandwich so I head to a small restaurant named "the green wave" which sounds peculiarly healthy. I get two salads and two types of soup for us to share and then I make my way back to our room. The door is unlocked when I get there and I find Alec laying on his bed with a book in his lap.
"You should really lock the door sweetheart," I tell him and lock the door myself.
"I knew you'd come so what's the point?" He asks without looking at me. I set our bag of food on the table before taking off my shoes and jumping on Alec's bed. The bed shifts under my weight making Alec also shift. He turns to frown at me and I grab the book out of his hands.
"We just had class for like an hour and a half, relax a little bit ok?" I prompt him and he eventually lets the book slip between his fingers.
He looks at me with a slow tilt of his head until his pretty blue eyes meet mine. His long black lashes look like spider legs and I almost want to reach out and touch them. I've never been fascinated with another persons' eyelashes before so this is weird to me. I flash a cocky smirk and get off the bed.
"Brought you some yummy food," I say and walk over to where I set down the bag of food.
"If you think this is going to make me forgive you you're wrong," he calls out from behind me but I can hear the smile in his voice. He likes that I brought him food.
"Of course I think that it will, I'm hard to hate," I say with a shrug and hand him a small bowl of salmon corn chowder soup and a spoon. He takes it from my hand with narrowed eyes.
He takes a seat at our small table and opens the soup, taking a tentative sip. I can see his dimples from here and I like them a lot. He takes another bite and then another all while I watch him.
"I can feel you looking at me," he points out as he takes another bite of soup and I smile.
"Is that a problem?" I ask and come to sit across from him, opening my own bowl of wild rice soup.
"It makes it hard to eat," he complains and I nod.
"Oh I see....well we wouldn't want your appetite ruined," I say sarcastically and take a sip of my own soup which is actually kind of spicy. It's good and if Alec likes it then I guess we'll be eating a lot more of it.
"No we don't," he agrees. "Why did you stay after class?" He asks me and finally meets my eyes with a brow raised.
"Wouldn't you like to know," I say with a faint smile and he gives me an unamused glare.
"Yes that's why I asked," he says dryly and I chuckle.
"That is for me to know and you to find out," I say and he frowns in return.
"If you keep frowning your face will stay like that," I tell him seriously and pinch his cheek between my fingers as I get up to throw my things away. He swats at my hand but as I thought, he smiles a little and a light blush dusts his nose and cheeks. I like it when he blushes for me, the color suits him well. I make my way back to the bed and pick up my phone after laying down.
Hey magnus, it's Camille. I'm throwing a party this Friday night and was hoping you could come...we can finish what we started ;)
I scoff at the text but then read it again and reconsider. Maybe a party is what Alec needs to loosen up a little bit.
See you there
I type back and turn off my phone with a wicked grin on my face.
******************
"I really like Mrs. Saltsman," Simon says cheerfully as we walk towards a coffee shop. Alec and I just finished our last class of the day and it's around 7:30. The last thing I want to do is hang out with the nerd and blond douche but Alec insisted. I have no idea who Mrs. Saltsman is and nor do I care to know but Jace brought it up. I blow out a breath and put my hands in my pockets, trying to stop myself from rolling my eyes.
"So how was your first day guys?" Simon asks us with a dimpled smile and I force myself to smile back at him.
"It was great," I say sarcastically.
"We were late to our first class ever," Alec says and points at me with a glare on his face. "It was because of him."
I slap his pointed finger away with a real smile and he blushes again.
"He could've left me," I tell the others and Jace nods.
"You should have," he whispers to Alec but it's loud enough so that I can hear.
"As if, he likes me too much," I say confidently and Alec snorts as we walk into the small coffee shop.
"I just didn't want you to completely miss your first class," he explains.
"Sure sure I believe you, and I bet that's why you made me breakfast too," I remind him and Alec swallows, looking away.
"You made this ass breakfast?" Jace asks in shock and I scowl at his comment.
"Well not exactly....I had extras," Alec lies thinly and Jace seems to notice it as well.
"What's wrong with making me breakfast? I can't possibly cook on my own," I say with a mock frown and Alec narrows his eyes at me.
"All the more reason to let him starve," Simon jokes and Jace laughs.
I would literally rather drown myself in bleach and slam all of my appendages in a car door than engage in anymore of this ridiculous banter. Maybe Alec isn't worth it. I guarantee that I could find someone else to waste my time with than his stupid friends but I can't move. I can't leave him here and it kills me. I've never been one to pursue anyone for much longer than a day but here I am, chasing this pretty boy for almost a week. I run my hands through my hair and let out a sigh.
We finally reach the front of the line and Jace and Simon both order their frilly drinks. I like black coffee, I don't require pumpkin spice or chestnut praline.
"I'll take a grande dark roast," I tell the barista. She nods and pours my drink into a cup and hands it to me with a smile. I give her a flirty smile back and she blushes. I don't like her blush nearly as much as I like Alexander's but I have to keep my options open.
Alec orders his drink and finally we head our separate ways.
"So Alec I have a payment idea for you," I say with a sly grin that is unnoticed in the dark.
"Oh really? What for?" He asks but I can tell he's playing coy. I bought him clothes and went to breakfast with his friends. While I would gladly buy him anything he would ever want I like having some sort of blackmail.
"For someone so smart you act so stupid," I sigh and I feel him lightly hit my arm with his.
"Get on with it," he growls and walks a little bit faster.
"I want you to come to a party with me," I say and Alec laughs, his breath making white puffs in the air.
"You've got to be kidding me," he chuckles to himself and I hear him take a sip of his coffee.
"No I'm serious. Come with me, college is about new experiences and parties," I tell him and he scoffs.
"Oh ya, it's not about the learning at all," he mutters sarcastically and opens the door to our dorm building.
"You owe me," I remind him as he unlocks our dorm.
"Pick something else," he tells me and shrugs his coat off, draping it over a chair. He turns to face me and I give him a dry look.
"It's my choice," I tell him and walk over to my bed. I lay on it and sigh deeply, relishing in the feeling of my body finally relaxing. He starts unbuttoning his shirt and catches me staring.
"Could you just toss me a shirt from my side of the dresser?" He asks me and I slowly grab him a soft gray shirt. I take my time in tossing it his way because I'm enjoying the view way too much. For his slightly shy personality he is big with muscles cording his arms and chest.
"Please don't feel as though you need to put on a shirt for me," I tell him and wink, making him turn away from me and quickly put on the shirt.
"I do what I want Magnus," he tells me softly and I smile slowly.
"I have no doubt of that Alexander."
