Chapter 8

Barba's P.O.V

"CLARK HAS Y/N!" I shouted over the chaos of the squad room.

"What?" Liv asked.

"I called Y/n. Clark picked up and I asked if he had her and he said maybe. He sounded so happy and delighted that I called. I asked him why, but he said to figure it out."

"Well she is obviously still alive if he did not talk about her much," Amanda said.

Liv added, "So now we know who has her and nothing else. Did you notice anything in the background?"

"An echo and no noise besides his voice," I scratched my head, trying to think of anything else.

"Okay, so it's somewhere abandoned and isolated. Let's try to get an idea where she could be!" Liv shouted.

----

Clark turned around,"I have to go now. Daddy has some important business to take care of, I'll be back in a bit. Take care sweetheart."

I listened to Clark's footsteps and closed my eyes. I heard the soft pats as his foot hit the floor again.

Left, right! Left, right! Pit, pat! Pit, pat!

I then heard the sound of a car driving away. He revved the engine to show off; the squealing of tires was unbearable. It reminded me of freedom. Now I remembered why I was so scared of the world.

A few moments later I screamed as loud as I could, hoping that someone would hear me. A car was passing by the building, but it made a sudden halt and pulled into the parking lot.

I prayed, Please do not let that be Clark!

A female voice erupted through the building, "Hello? I heard a scream!"

My throat was so dry, "U-up here! Please!"

"Keep talking so I can find you," she said.

I started to ramble on about how I ended up here. I could hear little gasps, but I knew she was more determined to find me. She probably had no flashlight; it was pitch black.

I eventually felt two hand squeeze my shoulders, "Is that you?"

"Yes, please," my throat was raw and dehydrated as if I had gone my enter life without a drink of some sort.

She fumbled with the ropes, "I'm not sure how to untie these."

I remembered something, "My phone is somewhere around here, hopefully."

"Hopefully?" she questioned, "Did that man take it?"

"I don't know," I was growing anxious, "Do you have yours?"

"I left it in my car. I heard you scream so I didn't think twice about running in here. It would be helpful, huh?" she sounded ashamed of herself.

I asked, "You heard a scream and just stopped driving?"

She stopped, "Why wouldn't I?"

"Where am I?" I interrogated her some more.

"Connecticut," she answered.

"Connecticut!" I yelled.

"In the town of Darien," she specified, "Where did you come from?"

"Manhattan!" I screeched.

"You were stuck in a van for around 50 minutes having no idea where you were going? I'm so sorry. I'm trying to free you to the best of my ability," something popped, "I got one knot done."

"Who are you?" I said.

"Alexis," she replied, "You?"

I was still amazed, "Y/n."

Another pop, "That's two. Did he tie your legs?"

"Yes," I reached down to my right foot, "Let me try this knot. You get the other."

"Okay," I felt her soft hands tugging and pulling at the stubborn knot.

Two more pops followed our struggle. I was finally free. I stretched my legs; never would I underestimate the joys of stretching.

"Let's get out of here," Alexis clutched my wrist tightly, "Be careful. I almost broke my leg trying to find my way around."

I'm surprised I didn't brake my leg. Finding the stairs was very difficult, and when we did we trip and almost fell down a flight. We made it outside and the fresh air hit me. I was no longer breathing in asbestos in a rotting building. I could smell nature, trees, the cold air. I wanted to take it all in, but I knew that any moment Clark could come back.

Alexis pulled me towards her car. In the passenger side was a male with dark brown hair and blue eyes. He stared at me in horror. Did I look that bad?

Alexis opened up the door to the back seats. I wasted no time getting in and buckling up. I looked at the window to see my reflection. I had a huge scratch down the left side of my face. When had that occurred?

Alexis started her car back up, "This is AJ. He's my husband."

"Nice to meet you," I continued, "Thank you again Alexis!"

"It's no problem," she smiled and looked back at me, "I'm a firefighter. I save people all the time. AJ is a firefighter too."

"We've been together fifteen years and twenty-three days," AJ added, "but it's not like anyone is counting."

I laughed. For the first time in months I laughed, and it did not feel fake. I felt amazing and overjoyed. It's not like that joke was extremely funny or anything. It was just the kindness of these people. It gave me hope that one day I would laughed multiple times and none of them would be fake.

We were fifteen minutes into the journey to Manhattan. A slick black car was speeding towards us.

Clark's car.

I am dead. There's no way he isn't going to kill me for this. Now other people knew. Was he going to kill them as well?

I screamed, "IT IS HIS CAR ALEXIS. YOU HAVE TO SPEED UP."

She slammed down on the gas pedal, and it felt like we were going 200 mph, "ARE YOU
COMPLETELY SURE Y/N?"

"YES!" I screeched.

There was no doubt about it. Especially when it pulled up right beside me. I saw Clark smirking and waving a gun. Before I could reacted, I heard two shots. The car jolted forward and stopped. I didn't want to see it. These two people who helped a helpless woman died. I killed them.
