Chapter 11

Working on some new books, so here's another bonus chapter! :)

--------------------

"Craig? Are you ok? Where's Evan?" Jonathan asked as soon as Craig and Tyler arrived at the lunch table. Obviously, Craig was still annoyed about how Evan managed to cause trouble on the second day of school.

"I'm fine. It's just I can't believe how stupid Evan can be sometimes!" He vented, putting his head down on the table, his arms at his side.

"Why? What did he do?" Brock asked, pausing his conversation with Lui.

"He totally owned Mr. Bishop." Tyler said, explaining for Craig since he was still upset.

The guys nearly choked on their food. "No way, Mr. Bishop?! He's one of the strictest teachers!" Lui exclaimed, obviously surprised.

"Yeah, Mr. Bishop." Tyler said.

"What did he do?"

"Gave him a freaking history lesson about the War of 1812." Craig said, remembering what had happened. "He deserved it, too."

"What did he say?" Brock pressed, interested to hear about what had happened.

Tyler explained what had happened, drawing a small crowd as he talked. Several people from other tables also came over to hear what had happened, pausing their conversations momentarily.

Huh, guess word really does spread quickly among human teenagers.

"Dude that's insane. I can't believe he would do that!" David said once Tyler had finished speaking.

"I can, he has always caused trouble I swear. You have no idea how upset my parents were when they saw his lip ring. They were so mad! Way more mad than when he pierced his ears....god he's done so much stupid shit it's ridiculous." Craig said, putting his head in his hands.

The guys laughed at Craig's small outburst, even though they could hear his frustration.

"What has he done before?" Brian asked through his laughter.

"Do you really want to know?" Craig asked, sighing when his friends eagerly nodded their heads. "Fine, I'll tell you how he got arrested." He said, sitting up in his chair and beginning to tell the story as he friends leaned closer in anticipation.

So much for blending in with the humans....

-----------

"Hey Craig! You coming?" Tyler called as him and the guys started walking towards the front door. Craig shook his head.

"I'm gonna wait for Evan." He replied, gesturing to the front office. The bell had rang a few minutes ago yet the teen knew his friend was going to be there for a while.

The guys looked at each other, silently discussing something before joining Craig in the office. "We'll join you." Tyler said as they all sat down in the uncomfortable office chairs.

"Really? You guys don't have to..." Craig said, surprised at his friends' actions. Back in hell, demons only cared about themselves, the less they had to worry about, the better.

"That's what friends do! What kind of friends would we be if we let you wait here all by yourself?" Lui said, using the squeaker voice he had introduced to Craig earlier.

"I don't know, I've never really had a lot of friends. I knew a lot of people, but not that many close friends." Craig said, carefully choosing his sentence formation. Didn't want to ruin the secret now did he?

--------

It had been about half an hour when the door that led to the principal's office opened, and a triumphant looking Evan walked out, his backpack hanging off one shoulder, his black hoodie half-way zipped, revealing his plain grey t-shirt underneath, his ripped black jeans looked worn as well as his all black converse, with a victorious smirk on his face that was matched with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Hey guys." Evan said coolly as he walked out of the office, stepping into the main foyer of the school. The other boys jumped out of their seats and followed him, anxious to ask questions, but Craig beat them to it.

"Evan, how could you be so stupid? You know mom and dad wanted us to stay out of trouble!" He scolded, smacking Evan on the arm.

Evan rolled his eyes, pushing open the front door as he answered. "Yeah, well mom and dad aren't here. Besides, I didn't get in trouble."

Now the guys jumped in, Brian being the first one to ask a question. "How did you not get in trouble? It's Mr. Bishop! One of the strictest teachers! Are you some kind of wizard?" He talked from Evan's right side, accusingly pointing his finger at him.

Evan shrugged, laughing a little. "Pfft, more like Mr. Bullshit, I nearly got him fired. And before you start asking, all I did was calmly explain the situation to the principal, that's all."

"You called him an old man and blatantly talked back to him." Craig said dryly as the group made their way across the lawn.

"That's not what the principal thought, he said that I was just a student answering the given questions." He countered back at his friend, smiling. "So, I think this is goodbye for now."

The group had just reached a point in the sidewalk where they would have to part ways. Evan and Craig lived in the opposite direction from everyone else.

"I guess it is, later guys. Have fun. Try to not get arrested again, Evan!" Tyler called as the guys walked off in the opposite direction while Evan glared at his friend.

"You told them that story?!" He said in disbelief, with a bit of anger underneath.

Craig nodded. "Yeah, it was one of your tamer stories. For someone as antisocial as you, you do cause quite a lot of trouble, you know."

"With good reason!"

"Like what?"

"I don't need to explain myself to you." Evan said, walking off in the direction of their house, leaving behind a frustrated Craig.

Even though they were best friends, there were a lot of things Evan avoided talking about. At first, Craig had been persistent, but over time he learned that unless he wanted a punch in the face, he should just leave it alone. So that's what he did, following behind Evan.

---------

"So, you didn't do anything to make the principal be on your side?" Craig asked as the boys entered their house, Evan shook his head.

"Nope, it was just my natural charm." He remarked, starting to head up the stairs.

"Evan." Craig said in a serious tone, obviously not in the mood for his friend's joke.

"No, Craig. I did not go all 'Demon eyes' on him ok? I thought you'd give me more credit than that." Evan stopped halfway up the stairs, looking down at Craig with a glare.

"Not when you purposely go out of your way to cause a scene! It's the second day for Lucifer's sake!" Craig hoped that the other teen would listen to him for once. They needed to focus on the mission.

"Whatever. I'm going to my room." Evan said, storming the rest of the way up the stairs.

Craig sighed, knowing that he had once again screwed up what had been between him and Evan. He always managed to say something wrong, he either didn't care enough or he cared too much.

Craig could just never connect with Evan the way he should. Yes, they were best friends, but Evan has never been a really open person, he's always managed to hide his feelings in the most strategic way possible, not even letting Craig in.

Sometimes, Craig thinks that Chilled can get closer, that he's a better friend to Evan than him. Every year, he always manages to make him smile at the ceremony, despite his hatred for social events. Evan is somewhat comfortable with Chilled grabbing him arm or giving him a quick hug.

But Craig wanted to be that, he wanted to be Evan's best friend, the one he wouldn't mind hugging, the one who could make him smile at the places he detested. But no, he wasn't allowed in that exclusive little club, and he had no idea why.

But he couldn't dwell on that now, because he was there on Earth for a reason, and he wasn't about to let his own feelings get in the way of his duty as Guardian.

And maybe, once everything was over, he would come back to those thoughts. Once the humans were safe and they were back home in Hell.

If they survived this mission that is.
