Third Person's POV
Three years ago
Jungkook was drop-dead gorgeous.
As his sixteenth birthday approached, his features matured more and his height sprung up a few inches. His hair darkened slightly and his eyes changed to a slightly darker brown. They were a milk chocolate color with little streaks of gold whenever he looked into the light.
The tips of his flawless hair were chestnut while the roots were dark brown. His hair was nearly a natural ombre and it was stunning to admire. His confidence spiked when he began to notice how the civilians turned their heads and nearly fell to their knees whenever their eyes laid upon him.
The Prince was power itself. With a mere glance, he had guards surrounding him and maids at his service. Servants rushed hurriedly to accompany the Prince and serve him as he pleased. With a snap, he had people obeying his silent orders.
His eyes were always hooded. They looked seductive yet powerful. There was always a breathtaking smile upon his face. However, beneath those seductive eyes and kind smiles, there was a beast within him that he wasn't afraid to let out.
The civilians quickly learned what the Prince was truly capable of. With eyes of mischief, he could simply look at a guard and the room would break into chaos. He could have civilians, maids, servants, and slaves beheaded in seconds.
He wasn't afraid to do it either. He would if they pissed him off.
It hadn't always been that way, however. After the entire incident with the King beheading the maid, the civilians cowered in fear to the King. Everyone obeyed. No one sparked any trouble while the King was around.
Yet when he wasn't, their boldness returned and attitudes were thrown at the guards and, most importantly, the Prince. He had none of it.
It was a few months ago when Jungkook had made the first move to gain his respect from the civilians. It was a male, one much older than Jungkook himself but lower than him. He was a merchant in the marketplace. Jungkook had seen him before.
He refused to bow to the Prince. He met the Prince's eyes constantly and never looked away, even when Jungkook's eyes blazed with fire. It amused him. It was exciting to see who he could put in their place.
He was the future Queen after all.
And so, on that day, the Prince rose from his throne. The King was tempted to do it himself, but his position upon the throne held as he watched his Prince stride down the stairs and face the elder. Jungkook feared nothing nowadays.
"I see you choose not to respect me," the Prince mused. His voice was taunting. It was deep and rich with power. The man's eyes narrowed and he scoffed at the royal. "Respect you? A maid? As if I'd do such a thing. You were below me. I don't give my respect to those who are below me."
Jungkook's honey-like laughter silenced the throne room's nervousness. It was rich and light and oh so inviting. The Prince met the man's eyes and he smirked devilishly. With a swift kick to the merchant's shins, Jungkook's hand flew to the back of the man's neck and he pinned him to the ground.
He was forced to bow. To kneel before the Prince and most certainly the King. "You amuse me," Jungkook spoke. His voice was dark and dangerous. It was filled with dominance as he towered over the groaning man.
"You enter the palace with such high hopes and ugly attitudes. You act as if you belong in such a place." Jungkook laughed as his nails dig into the man's neck and tear at the skin. "In reality, you don't have the privilege of touching the polished marble beneath your feet."
Jungkook's hand moved from the man's neck to his thick, jet-black hair and tugged harshly. The man groaned as his eyes were forced to meet the younger's. "You still fail to give me the respect I deserve as a royal, even when the King himself has made it clear to the kingdom," Jungkook mused.
"I wonder why that is," he taunts. The man's eyes water as Jungkook holds him there. "I'm below you?" He asks. The man refuses to say a word. Nothing flees his clamped lips that press together desperately. Jungkook laughs.
It's dark this time. It's filled with power and it strikes fear in the hearts of the civilians. Even the guards stand down in fear. Swords fall to their sides and heads drop. That's the power the Prince held.
Great power.
"If you are above me, then explain why you're kneeling to the Prince. Explain to me why you're on your knees and effortlessly giving in to my hold," the younger taunts. His tone is condescending and it makes the man shiver in fear.
"I will not repeat myself ever again so listen carefully." His voice is collected and composed, however just beneath the flawless smile, there's anger in his eyes and mischief swirling within him. It coats the atmosphere lightly as Jungkook slams the man's face into the marble.
"You are below me. You are all below me. If you seek death then I shall grant you your wish, however, you may not intrude into my home and expect to walk all over the King or I." Jungkook presses his polished shoe against the man's spine and snarls dangerously.
"Disobey me once more and it's off with your head," Jungkook says. His voice booms with power as the King watches from the throne, amused. His eyes glimmer with satisfaction and humor. Jungkook's are dangerous and lit aflame as he shifts his gaze to the guards and curls a finger.
Instantly, all the guards are at his side and kneeling. It only takes the curl of a finger to do so. "Rid of him." A chorus of responses flee the guards' mouths as they grab a hold of the merchant and drag him out of the throne room.
Needless to say, months later, the Prince has everyone's respect. They obey him like a dog with a master. They don't meet his eyes, they don't speak unless directed to, and they certainly don't lay a finger upon him.
They treat him as if he were a walking God.
Jungkook adores it.
As the Prince graces the hallways with his presence and exits the castle, his mind drifts to the King. Taehyung had left the Kingdom for a day or two. Apparently there was something he had to plan with his cousin, Namjoon.
Jungkook disliked the idea of being left alone in the castle as the only royal with power, but it wasn't like he could force Taehyung to stay. He would be back in a day anyway. It was no big deal.
His crown shifted upon his head as he approached the stables and entered to locate his beloved horse. She was a beautiful Percheron. Her body was built and she stood tall and proud. Her mane was long and well-kept. Jungkook adored her.
She was a beautiful midnight black mare. When Jungkook's eyes landed upon her, his smile grew and his eyes softened. She saw him and her head turned as she strode toward the Prince. It had been a while since the two of them went out for a walk.
"Hey there, Eclipse. How are you, beautiful?" The mare took a strong liking to the Prince. They were inseparable for years. When Jungkook was only a personal maid, the two would spend hours together in the morning before Taehyung had duties to attend to.
However, with the new responsibilities upon the Prince, he hardly had time for his beloved mare. She was gentle despite her size. A sweetheart. Her actions were careful and loving, but only to Taehyung and Jungkook.
This mare wasn't too fond of others. She had her selected few. "How about a walk, hm?" As he saddled his horse and mounted upon her back, he caught sight of Taehyung's stallion. He was a beautiful horse, one of the finest in Jungkook's opinion.
He was an Andalusian horse. His coat was a dark grey with little specks of white here and there. For that very reason, Taehyung had named him Storm. Jungkook's eyes softened upon the stallion as he opened the gate and led the horse in his direction.
Storm and Eclipse were good with one another. They worked well. They've been the couple's horses since they were only ten or so anyway.
With that, Jungkook rode his mare out of the stables with a thundering stallion behind him. They raced through the fields. It brought joy to Jungkook's face as he allowed the breeze to cool him down on this warm spring day.
The two horses had their freedom as the Prince enjoyed his ride. He allowed himself to smile and embrace the beauty of the day as his hair flew with the wind and his attire flowed slightly.
The castle turned smaller and smaller the farther he traveled out. He couldn't help it. He felt a little relieved to disappear from the castle for a bit. It was stressful and tiring sometimes, especially when the King wasn't there to deal with the civilians.
Yet while Jungkook was still the Prince, he had to.
He allowed his mind to drift as he held the bridle and moved with his mare. It relaxed him. It brought a sense of joy to his tense body.
Jungkook couldn't help but wonder what plans Taehyung still had in store. The Prince knew he had some- possibly several. Jin always made it a goal to keep reminding the younger as well. He always pointed out that Taehyung still had marvelous plans.
Which made the younger question what they were. Taehyung wouldn't discuss them or even address Jungkook's questions. He always told him that they were a surprise and that he couldn't reveal them. He wouldn't.
It annoyed Jungkook at times, but at other times it didn't. He trusted Taehyung more than anyone. He had faith in the King and his plans. So, after a while, he had stopped asking.
But he had never stopped wondering. What was Taehyung planning? Surely this visit with Namjoon had been one of his little plans, or more so, a contribution to it, yes?
With a sigh, he dismounted his mare as the horses sat upon the grass and Jungkook followed behind them. He sat in the middle of a field that held no value or purpose to it. It was on a hill. Here, he could overlook the entire Kingdom. Fruma was by no means a small kingdom. It stood at one of the biggest, richest, and most powerful.
Jungkook's mind continued to wander. Taehyung had promised Jungkook that he would become the future Queen, right? So was this trip a step closer into making that happen? Was Taehyung planning his proposal?
The younger knew he was Taehyung's destined consort. However, with that said, Taehyung still promised a proposal. Could it be drawing closer? Taehyung was going to be eighteen at the end of the year anyway.
It had Jungkook's stomach flipping with nervousness. Jungkook loved Taehyung, undeniably at that too, but it still made him nervous. Taehyung still made him nervous.
Maybe that was a good thing. He truly loved the King, his childhood best friend, and he would for all of his life.
A sigh escaped Jungkook's parted lips as his gaze shifted from his hand to the sky. It was a beautiful day out. It was hotter than most for this time of year, but the sky was clear and the wind was perfect. It was refreshing and well-needed.
"I miss you," Jungkook whispered into the air. He missed the King and it had only been a day. He was attached to Taehyung. Could you blame him? They have been inseparable since Jungkook was seven.
"I love you," the Prince whispered into the air once more. His eyes fluttered closed and his golden skin shone under the sunlight. It put him at ease.
"Your majesty," a guard called. It snapped Jungkook out of his peaceful, undisturbed trance. His eyes reopened and his head tilts to the side. The guard was breathless, on his knees, and mumbling his apologies to the Prince for disturbing him.
"Yes?" The younger asked. What happened now? "There's been a fight in the marketplace. The civilians are disagreeing. What is your command?" Jungkook's eyes rolled. Another fight? They hadn't had one in months, almost a year truthfully.
Was this because the King was gone?
"Take me to the marketplace. I'll settle things myself." Jungkook skillfully mounted his mare as Storm rose to a stand. Together, the guard, Eclipse, Storm, and Jungkook raced to the marketplace. Jungkook looked powerful and ethereal as he sat upon his strong, muscular mare.
"Your majesty!" The civilians bowed. Jungkook's eyes narrowed in annoyance. "Who initiated the fight?" The question left the civilians in silence. The guards held their ground as swords were pointed at the innocent.
"He did, your highness," one male said. Jungkook's gaze shifted and his focus landed upon the male. He was smaller than the others and a little frail-looking. "What is your reason for sparking a fight in the kingdom?" Jungkook demanded to know.
His power-filled voice left the civilians breathless. "Your majesty, I do apologize, but they were refusing to pay the price for the meat. It's been going on for a week or so now. I took measures into my own hands." Jungkook's eyes remained narrowed and hardened.
"Fighting is not tolerated in the kingdom of Fruma. Whether the King is here or not, order is to remain enforced, am I understood?" Everyone nodded and bowed as they muttered their responses to the Prince. "I'll allow this incident to slide, however, if I receive a report that another fight has sparked in the marketplace, your actions will not go unnoticed."
They nodded, grateful that the Prince spared their lives. "Behave yourselves." With that, Jungkook rode back off toward the stables with his mare and Taehyung's stallion. The day continued as if nothing had happened and the younger returned to sit upon his throne.
He really did miss Taehyung. It felt weird without him here. With a sigh, the younger rested his chin upon his palm and gazed absently at the throne room doors.
Just one more day and the King would return.
