Chapter 1: Another Day

Today is my birthday. Like all my other birthdays, nothing happens; no cake, no friends, no nothing. I never cry. I never shout, I never even smile. There is no cake, and no food, nothing. Just like all my birthdays, they are all the same.

Now I'm turning 16.

Althea won't come to visit from her college, Flame almost lit the house on fire, Raidi might blow up the house, and Doug tries his best to make me smile. But no matter how hard he tries he just can't.

The next day is the first day of school. As always I walk alone, eat alone, I even do my class work alone.

"Hello!" A blonde haired girl says jumping from behind me.

"Hello..." I say dully.

I don't know what to do. I mean, I don't talk to anyone.

"You're new here too, right? So am I!" She says. "My name is Lilly Hoover, what's your name?" She asks smiling.

"Rainbow, now can you please just... leave me alone?" I ask, avoiding eye contact from her..

"Nice to meet you Rainbow!" Lilly says completely ignoring what I just told her. I finally gained the fact that she won't leave me alone so I turned my head to look at Lilly.

She had her hair wrapped up in a ponytail. Lilly had a blue blazer, black pants, and a light green bracelet.

She takes a look at my schedule. "Hey, look at that! We have first and second period together!"

"Yeah... I guess..." I say just walking into my class. She sat next to me. I just sat there quietly. I never really was a social person - well I mean I don't think was .

"Hey, Rainbow?" Lilly asks tapping my shoulder.

"Yeah?" I say turning my head towards her.

"Can I come over to your place?"She asks.

"Why? It's not as if anything interesting goes on in there...." I say looking back down onto my desk.

"I don't know why... But it's just that there is something about you Rainbow. I don't know what, though." She says as she plays with her thumbs

"I guess my mother wouldn't mind, but...." I trail off.

"But what?" She asks.

"I don't know if my sister will mind..." I say. She was probably going to visit, just because she wants to tease me for turning 16. I don't mind at all, but it can be a little annoying at some points.

"Who's your sister?" Lily asks.

"Althea," I say.

"YOUR SIS-" I cover her mouth.

"Be quiet, you're too blatant," I say removing my hand.

"Sorry, your sister is Althea Light?" She asks.

"Yes. I don't know if Al will mind having you over." I whisper.

"Well, I know this may be risky, and your sister may kill me from coming over... However, nothing ventured nothing gained." She says as she crosses her arms and gives me a small smile.

Our teacher walks in and starts the class. It was long and tedious. I knew about everything she talked about, so I just began to read. I guess she didn't notice me since she was rambling about the history of Political Parties. At one point I closed my book and started watching everyone in my class. After looking at everyone for a small amount of time, I knew a lot about them.

Kaya Len: Sweet, shy, despises boys.

Lilly Hoover: Energetic, high-spirited, makes the best of her time.

Landon Writ: Loathes sports, kind, has a small crush on Kaya (that explains the staring).

Ethan Falls: Gamer, smart, the nicest guy in school (I don't understand how he's making everyone around him laugh).

And the list goes on and on.

It was normal for me to examine people. Whether I was busy or not, I always started to watch people. I'm different from everyone really, and I'm not sure if I'm ashamed of it. I sometimes just stop for long periods of time watching people for no reason whatsoever. Apparently, I spent the rest of class watching everyone.

When the bell rang, I was awoken from my thoughts. My next two periods were a blur. I just continued to watch people through the entire class. I just wanted the day to be over soon. Then came free period. I went onto the grass and sat there, in the silence.

"HEY MOVE OUTTA THE WAY!" I hear from behind. I then simply stand up and move two feet away. A ball landed right behind me.

"Whoa, the girl's got skills." A guy says "For a freak."

"Yeah, can she even talk?"

"I bet that she can, but it's so silent we won't even hear her."

"Guys, that's enough." A voice calls.

"Oh, Brookstone kind of you to show up."

"Leave that girl alone." The boy says.

"Make us."

"W-wait, dude, I don't think we'll want to mess with Brookstone, remember that happened to Carlos?"

".......F-fine, you win for now Brookstone." The then group walk away. I just stood there, not even caring about what had just happened.

"Hey!" The boy walks over to me. "Sorry about that, I'm Cole Brookstone, but you can call me Cole." Cole puts out his hand for me to shake it. I hesitate, but I eventually shook it quickly.

"Rainbow. My name is Rainbow." I say.

"Nice to meet you, Rainbow. Nice talking to you, I guess, well more like defending you, but I have to go. See you around." He says then walks away.

I stood there silently, not really knowing what to do. After school, I decided it would be okay for Lilly to come home with me, so she called her brother and told him to go home without her.

This might be a bad idea, but we'll just have to see.
