Chapter 9
~~~
I shifted in bed.
I turned over tiredly changing my position, but unexpectedly I felt something in front of me like a giant teddy bear or something and I suddenly opened my eyes as if I was never asleep, totally shocked.
I looked up slowly to see Aspen facing me still sleep, his hands in front him, his chest right in my face.
I clearly panicked as I was defiantly NOT on my side of the bed as part of the deal and I HAD to move back before he awaken.
Very carefully, I began to slide away from him and he moved a bit by my movement. I paused staring at him and thankfully he didn't open his eyes to see me staring at him and I kept moving away from him gradually and I finally rolled back on my side of the bed, but when I went to check the time on my phone on the bed and it read 9:43am, it just slipped out my hands onto the floor and it hit the wall then the ground making this SUPER LOUD thump, bam, thump, noise and I quickly tensed, heat coming to my face and I pretend to be asleep as I was facing the wall and not Aspen.
I felt him move and I quickly closed my eyes to pretend like I was sleep and kept the breathing pattern of in.....out. In...out..
The bed shifted like he was moving over to me and he did as I felt his breath hovering over me to see if I was awake but I didn't move....logically thinking... in....out. In....out.
He let out a breath as he if he chuckled and he went back to his side of the bed and laid back down. He let out a long breath and after what seemed like forever, 15 minutes later, he was asleep again.
By all that (probably by the fake sleeping) I was extremely tired again and possibly by the sound of be rain outside the 4th story window and I headed right back to sleep for real....
It was summer away wasn't it?
I blinked myself awake, opening my eyes a little to see a little sun bouncing off the wall, but I still heard the rain and I moved stretching my legs in bed, but after I felt another pair of feet against them and something on my back, I froze.
Without moving I wanted to see if Aspen was asleep again so I could move back, but I guess he figured out I was awake this time by my sudden pause A REAL PERSON who was half sleep WOULDN'T do.
"Morning," he said to me. I gulped,
"Hello..." I noticed he had his arms around me not tightly, but actually quit loose either, and I felt him still smiling.
"Sleep good?" I don't know what about it, but Aspen's sleepy voice or maybe even ANY guys tired voice sounded sooo cute and a little sexy, and I couldn't help BUT get those butterflies riding on rainbows in my stomach again.
"Good," I said honestly. "You?" He chuckled, the vibration of his voice moving through his chest onto my back.
"Great....even though you kinda broke the rules," he commented. Without a second thought, I quickly rolled away from him like I did hours ago and I looked at him sadly as he looked blurry without my glasses.
Wait, where are my glasses?
"I'm so sorry," I apologized. "I didn't know." He chuckled, even though he looked blurry, I could tell his pearly whites from a mile away.
"Nah it's fine," he brighten. "You weren't a bother." I smiled at him sadly as Aspen was sooo sweet and I had to accept his gratitude.
"Thanks..." I told him. He smiled.
"No prob."
We stared at each other and I kind of panicked secretly only because I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE MY GLASSES WERE! I didn't want to start looking like an idiot feeling around the bed for them since I didn't remember taking them off last night and I had the sight of -3.50, but I didn't want to lay there too-NOT knowing where they were. I can't talk to Aspen half blind!
I arose from the bed rubbing my eyes and I stretched down to the floor and felt for my phone and I finally found it. It was already 10:34am. I squinted my eyes not sure. "10:30 already?" I rounded. He smiled still laying down.
"Yup." I looked at him thoughtfully.
"How long have you been awake?" I asked him.
"9:45ish," he shrugged. I turned pink. 'Omg! My phone woke him up! That's the only reason why he's up!' I groan closing my eyes feeling guilty.
"Ugh, sorry," I apologized.
"For what?" He asked me. I didn't want to tell him I woke him up AFTER I ended up on HIS side of the bed, so I didn't say anything still thinking about my glasses, but he went over to the dresser and stretched for something and he handed me some huge black rectangles. "Here you go." I took them and put them on and I looked at him as he had a smile on his face.
Something I wouldn't mind waking up to everyday.
"Thanks," I almost stuttered. "Where were they?" He shrugged.
"You fell asleep with them on," he told me. "I didn't think you'd want to break them, so I took them off you and put it them on the dresser so they wouldn't crack or anything." I just stared at him as he sat up with his hands into each other like a giant fist and I nodded slowly,
"Thanks Aspen...." I told him kind of quietly.
As a response, he nodded with a smile.
He slithered his way out of bed as my cheeks turned a super bright red and I kept thinking, 'Breathe Amanda. BREATHE.'
Aspen opened the window to only blind the both of us by its illumination and it always seemed like hotel rooms were brighter than our own....
"Well..." Aspen crossed his arms. "It's still raining." I got up joining beside him looking out the window still realizing I had on his jacket, but I didn't take it off.
"Yeah...well it figures," I shrugged. He looked at me.
"How so?"
"Thunderstorm last night," I told him like he knew. "Didn't you hear it?" He shook his head totally lost.
"Nope...." I looked at him.
"Really? You didn't even see the lightening through the curtains?" I asked him.
He made a fake frown shaking his head. I blinked surprised.
"Oh...well it did. I guess this is just the results from it," I concluded and all that was true.
~
Last night, like right on cue, after Aspen broke down about his begotten parents, it began to thunderstorm.
It wasn't severe or scary or anything, but it was the kind of thunderstorm you'd want at night to sleep through or just to hear the rain against the window or on the roof. I don't know how long Aspen was crying for, but I was with him all the way and I didn't care. We both ended up under the covers somehow and I looked after him after I stretched over and turned off the lamp on his side and when he finally settled down after whatever time that was, he whispered,
"Amanda?" I distinctively remember a streak of lighting peak through the window.
"Yeah?" He sighed as if he was tired...I would be.
"Thank you." I smiled closing my eyes as I knew he was facing me with dry tears on his cheeks, but we both kept to our invisible barrier between us,
"No problem..." And a soft sound of thunder roared right when I felt myself drift away from it all.
~
Aspen looked at me a little after I told him about the rain then back out the window.
"Yeah, I guess," he finally agreed.
Aspen left while I still studied the raindrops on the window and I couldn't help but think 'a shower of blessings' and....for some strange reason, I felt it was for Aspen.
I turned around to see what he was doing and I actually found him changing into a different shirt, but he didn't see me look at him and I turned back around almost having acid reflexes.
'Holy SHOOT....' I thought closing my eyes tightly TRYING to get his four pack OUT of my mind. I never turned back around, but I did hear him say,
"I'll be in the bathroom." And I said biting my thumb still freaking out,
"Alright." I heard the door close to the bathroom with his backpack and I figured to calm my nerves, this would be good time to change myself.
I went into my backpack and put on some dark skinny jeans, with my black and grey ringer tee with stars on the right chest and I reluctantly put his burgundy jacket back on and right on time he came out the bathroom. He smiled when he saw me.
"You like my jacket don't you?" He asked me with a charismatic smile. I looked down at it, taking it into mind.
"Oh sorry," I said very apologetic about to take it off. "You can have if back." He quickly refused.
"No, no it's fine. I don't need it," he reassured seriously. I stared at him my hand freezing on the zipper.
"Oh....thanks...."
He went over and began playing with his hair in the mirror while I grabbed my bag and went into the bathroom next. When I turned on the light and saw myself in the mirror I quickly buried my face and hands and groan desperately. 'Did I seriously look like all morning??'
I brushed my teeth, washed my face; I had time for it so I put on one coat of mascara, lip balm, and I placed my beachy blondes into a side braid completed with a black bow I found in the girls locker room one day at school.....
I walked out the bathroom as Aspen looked at me sitting in the office chair and I sat on the bed putting on my black converse. I still felt he was looking at me and finally he said, "Hey Amanda....?" I glanced at him and back at my shoe.
"Yeah?" He kept staring at me as if he must've forgot what he going to say (or he was too scared to say whatever it was) but he ended up saying,
"You hungry?" I thought about it as I honestly didn't know.
"No....not really," I told him truthfully. "I was going to eat a granola bar and grab a bottle of water and some fruit down stairs in the lobby," I told him. I looked at him. "You?" He smiled.
"Surprisingly no. Still full from last night," he admitted. I nodded.
"Me too." I finished tying my shoes and I went into my backpack. "Come here," I told him happily. He chuckled rolling on the chair over to me like a little kid.
"Whatcha got?" He asked me leaning on the bed. I smiled taking them out my bag.
"I got Nature Valley bars, pretzels, a family size bag of pre-popped popcorn, Hot Cheetos, some healthy cookies I saved from the foster home, and Vanessa gave me her little box of strawberry Pop-Tarts," I looked at him. "You pick." He studied them taping his chin with a raised eyebrow.
"What do you think I should eat?" He asked me. I smiled.
"Hmmmm, since you're a guy," I pretended to think about it. He chuckled. "I would think you'd want the Pop-Tart," I told him. "What guy never ate a Pop-Tart?" He laughed.
"I was going to pick that," he admitted. I giggled.
"Really? I just guessed." He nodded smiling.
"Yup. I have tons of them at home," he took one. I smiled putting all the food back in the bag with his help.
"Kelly introduced them to me," I said not looking at him. "I had like four a day." He laughed.
"Lucky. My mom made me have a pack a day since I ate them so much." I chuckled looking at him.
"I wish Kelly did that to me," I commented. He smiled with chilled eyes as I gave him playful ones.
"You wish," he said back. We kept looking at each other putting the food back in my bag and it was then I noticed something between us was the same.
Aspen lost his parents; I lost mine. I guess you couldn't call him an orphan since he was already 18, but we still understood each other a little more than we needed too.
We both didn't have parents, but the only exception is his are passed away and I'm searching for mine, but even though he experienced having parents and he's not looking for them, I still feel he's looking for something....and I was going to help him find whatever that was...just because I felt like it and also....
This is the judge-free-zone.
