Replaceable You

Weekend Write In Challenge (Replace) March 23-25

"I'm so easy to replace! Well, you will find out that isn't the case, mister!" I slammed my laptop closed. Furious wasn't a strong enough word to describe how I was feeling. My boyfriend for the past year appeared to have moved on without telling me.

It would have been nice to know considering he'd spent the night in my bed last night. The nerve! And, the woman--cancel that--the girl was half our ages. I found out by chance when the woman/child sent a friend request to me via Facebook. I always checked out the page of the person who sends me a friend request. This time, lo' and behold, photos of the man I'd kissed goodbye in the morning could be visualized on social media, plastering a kiss on the twenty-something lips of this kid.

I'm not one to post a bunch of relationship photos on my page. I don't need that kind of validation. I wondered if my "as of this minute" ex had mentioned me or if the lil' miss had cyberstalked her new "bae". I mean what in the hell is a "bae"? Is it too difficult to get out the last consonant which would produce the endearment known to my generation as "babe"?

I friended her. For what purpose? I don't know unless I thought I deserved a penance for putting my trust into a shitheel? It's not my style to be covered in sackcloth and ashes. Despite my awful language when I'm angry, I consider myself to be a classy woman. Okay, okay! A lot of women say they're classy at the same time they are posing for a photo with their boobs hanging out of their barely-there top. All I can say is to each their own...

I think of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn when I picture someone classy in my head. This drama can evolve without me having to play an active role in it. I would live my life and post updates on my page. Let's see if I can't lure my lothario back, so I can tell him in no uncertain terms, I'm no longer interested.

Over the next week, I go about my life. Taking a little extra care to look nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. I make a concerted effort to meet up with friends. I had a fabulous time 4-wheeling and took the time to take some photos with friends posting

them on Facebook. I found I wasn't really missing that cheating guy who had taken up so much of my time.

And about the time I realized this fact, you-know-who contacted me. I had to smile, because the young woman, he'd left me for, had done me a favor. She gave me back myself. You see, he didn't replace me, I had replaced myself with the woman I thought he'd wanted. The catch is -- this woman no longer wants him.
