blue flame

A silhouette lay cuddled in a corner of a deserted alley, the lighting damp and murky. Undistinguishable liquids that gave off a appalling scent trailed thickly down the grey rough walls, and trash littered the grimy floor. A girl, huddled in a corner, clutched the cloak draped on her body tightly, her once white and ice blue hair now stained and matted, falling across her face, a curtain of snowflakes. She sniffled, and suddenly, a reddish glow illuminated the small corner. Flames, bright red and cheery, were licking her fingertips, engulfing them in comfortable warmth. She blinked, flames reflected in cold silver eyes, and clentched her fist, ending the flames.

Tightening the fairly clean cloak around her, she sighed depressingly, too tired to make tears form anymore, though the tearstains were as obvious as day on her porcelain cheeks. Footsteps sounded, and she pressed her back into the wall, breaths fast and shallow. A man came into view. Nothing could be seen of him. A black cowl that covered his broad shoulders, and a cape to mask the body shape. The only thing that stood out was the mask. One side, bore the symbol and patterns on Flamerise, and the other, of Icewild. In the centre, both intertwined as one, a blue flame. The girl stared, absorbed by the strange sight, and the cloak rustled. A heavy thud on the ground. A soft swoosh, and he was gone.

Her eyes fixated on the bag of gems, she stood up, firm. Gingerly picking up the pouch, she tucked it securely in the folds of her cloak, and determinedly walked out of the alley way, tear stains now, instead of showing a sign of weakness, now showed a sign of resilience.

Fire crackled at her palms, hugging her wrist and forearm, as she strode forward confidently, the same cloak billowing behind her. Ice cold eyes, yet bright red flames. A disruption of nature. A miracle. Her imperious glare made everyone stay clear of her way. A proud peacock, she walked to the middle of the commotion, all babble dying. But the babble wasn't the only one dying.

Him.

The same mask, not showing any signs of breaking of damage on his face. But instead, his cloak was non existent. Revealing tanned arms, and ember hair. A Flame. Trapped and getting snuffed out. In a guillotine. A flame surrounded by ice.

"Let him go." Her voice cracked like fire, yet was as cold as frost.

"Why should we?" A Wild asked rudely, wielding a whip.

"Because. I said so." Was the reply that was quiet but laced with invisible threats.

"We gave you a chance. Not to return and we would not bother you. You wasted that chance by coming here."

"No one. Gives me chances." With that, she spread her arms wide, and her flames ate at everything, forming a circle around her and her saviour. A swish of her wrist, and her fire set the wood on fire, turning it into ashes, but left him untouched.

"Go." She spoke, teeth clentched as she continued burning the area around her.

Screams and shouts were echoing, and bolts of ice and blue sparks were attacking her flames, which attacked viciously back. But one person against fifty? She stood no chance.

"No."

Her arms strained, she breathed out,
"Yes. Please. This is my debt paid to you."

He relented. And ran through the flames, but not before doing something. Taking his mask down, she stared at his long lost father, her flames burning with renewed hope. And as fast as last time, he was gone, never to return.

"Make peace within us..." She whispered to herself, sliding to the ground.

And slowly, her flames ate her inside out, until she, became ashes, that got swept away by the breeze.

_writers note_
