Lies
I hugged my secrets, my dreams.
Held them close, tucked next to me.
Like the insomnia, wriggling,
Sliding under the covers and
Enveloping you in its warm embrace.
But nothing compared to
How close you held your secrets.
But how could I tell you the truth.
Because the lies always slip out and
Hang heavy in the cool air.
Its presence an unwanted cousin.
But once I'd said it,
Whispered it into the black night,
My breath fogging,
How could I take it back.
How could I tell you the truth?
The oh, so painful truth.
This is how it always happens,
How it always ends.
I lie and try so hard to change it.
But how can I?
When all I know is that when I said,
"I Love you."
I never lied
