The Light
In the trees the birds chirp,
As the sun sets, shadows grow.
Long and dark against the snow.
First a bus, then a train.
Next an alley, long and dark.
A long walk leads me to a bridge.
The feeling of someone watching me
Shiver running down my spine,
A stranger following me.
Knife stabbing into my back,
Blood as black as night
Splatters on the pavements,
Glistens in the dusk light.
My body heavy and thoughts light
As the pavement rushes up to greet me
And light fades leaving the sky,
Then my eyes, staring sightlessly,
In to the inky blackness.
Now there is a night so dark.
With shining stars, the moon is bright.
