“‘Sit on the bench,’ he said. ‘Watch the others do their thing,’ he said. Did he say how boring it would be? No, of course not.” I admit I mutter to myself a lot, but what else was I supposed to do? I was just watching. At least the people in the stands could cheer their team on, and the coach could give instructions to the players.

One time, I asked him why he made me do this. He evasively said, “Keep watching, or else you’ll miss something.”

I guess I did. He tested me, and I had forgotten everything.
