SURPRISE ONE-SHOT

Dedicated to Purplexingxu and a few other peeps!

Leo

Bad days are abundant in your life, you don't see many people at school, you have only a few friends in real life, and the internet to sustain your needs for romantic enticement. While on your nightly surfing of said internet, I saw a article on people who are finding their soulmates through writing on their arms with a permanent marker - and their soulmates getting it too.

At first you scoffed at the idea. To be honest, the only thing you really adored was Leonardo Hamato - The leader of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You knew they were fake, but it couldn't hurt to have the tiniest obsession over the blue-clad terrapin.

"Well, couldn't hurt to try... I mean I've colored on myself plenty of times and nothing ever happened." you said to yourself, pulling out a (f/c) sharpie from your dresser drawers.

You began to write a message:

Hello, My name is (Y/n).

Sure, it was dorkishly simple, but it was the best you could come up with on short notice.

You waited a few moments for something to happen, but nothing.

"See, I knew this was-"

Suddenly, you felt something on your (dominant hand) arm, like a tickling feeling you get when your friend gives you her number on your hand.

The message you wrote earlier was still there, but now underneath it was a black scrawl:

What the shell is going on?!

You could hardly believe it. Someone wrote back, you have a Soulmate?!

Immediately you began to write back:

Well, this is only possible if you have a Soulmate. Could you please tell me your name? I promise to explain more once I find room on my arm.

The ticklish feeling came back on your wrist:

The name's Leonardo, but call me Leo.

Immediately, you grabbed your phone, snapped several pictures, and sent every one of them to your (bf/n)

Unlike your Soulmate, you received a blurb on said phone with three words:

Call. Me. Now.

(Leo's Point of view)

I was just meditating alone, my usual routine when I felt like something was slithering up my forearm. Startled, I looked at the (f/c) words on my skin.

Hello, my name is (Y/n).

Donnie had talked about this before... How some people miraculously find their soulmates by writing with permanent markers on their arms. He's been holed up in his lab after he found out all the notes on his arms were being silently commented on by his Soulmate.

I looked around the room for the one black marker that I had confiscated from Mikey - though he's probably forgotten about it by now.

I flipped off the cap and wrote:

What the shell is going on?!

It wasn't my best handwriting, but at least it was clear enough to be read.

This time, I watched the message appear as the (f/c) marker contrasted against my green skin.

Well, this is only possible if you have a Soulmate. Could you please tell me your name? I promise to explain more once I find room on my arm.

I began to reply, my rushed scrawl around my wrist:

The name's Leonardo, but call me Leo.

(Reader's POV)

Your fingers flew over the touchscreen and soon enough the excited best friend was chattering at the speed of light.

"(Y/N)! You could have not been any better timed, I'm talking to him!"

You laughed at my friend's enthusiasm, watching as marker met skin and baby wipe quickly erased access marker for more room. It was going to be hard to take her attention away.

"(Bf/n)! Look! He's writing!" you said, the familiar paint-on-skin feeling coming back.

I talked to my brother, looks like you were right (Y/N)...

You let out a heartfelt sigh.

Your hand flew over your clean arm, the writing a little smudged from excitement:

Told you Leo. Just asking for kicks, Where do you live?

(Bf/n) looked over at your arm, reading the last inscription.

"You better keep that arm hidden (Y/n), you know how your mom hates you drawing on yourself." she said.

"And since when have I ever listened to that order?" you replied.

You guys both laughed, accidentally scribbling on each other.

"This is why we get in trouble, but heck with it- it's worth it." She giggled, reading another message from her arm.

You pulled back your sleeve.

NY, NY

New York! How the shell were you going to get to New York?!

I live in (Hometown), (Bland description of location)

If Mystery-person was going to be cryptic, so could you.

Well, that's not very descriptive.

Neither is saying you live in New York - I've never been there, but I know that place is enormous.

Heh, you're right - I would tell you more, but my family has a thing for security. You know, it being New York City and all.

I understand, we used to live in a town that loved to get into everyone's business. After three attempted break-in in less than a month - we just couldn't handle it.

That many times?! Our family would have moved on attempt #1

Woah, you would understand the security of a family in New York, but that was some pretty uptight ish right there.

(Bf/n) was watching this, and was taking the information.

"That's really weird, my soulmate said something about security too... apparently he was the one who put them in."

I suddenly got an idea, and the marker slipped across skin once more.

Hey, random question - do you have more than one brother? I have other siblings - but I'd rather not talk about them.

"(Bf/n), what if your soulmate and my soulmate are related! I mean, it's a crazy idea - but when more I look at it, the more I'm convinced that it's true."

"I didn't think about that... but it does make some sense." She replied, and immediately went back to writing.

You got a message via arm:

Well, being that you don't exactly know about me - I'll trust that you won't leak out the information. I'm one of 4 brothers. And (y/n), I have hard enough time with three! How do you ever sleep?!

You chuckled, and wrote again - after showing (Bf/n) the message.

"Well, that's pretty much the only logical explanation left. They have to be brothers." you said, Sherlock Holmes mode on full blast.

(Bf/n) looked at her arm, and the message written there was proof enough:

Well, I'm the third oldest of four - and the smartest.

"Told you." You teased, poking her arm.

You took a baby wipe and erased the red marker, and began again.

Not to be nosey, but what are their names - other than you, Leo.

A few seconds later,

Well, there's Raphael, our resident Hot-head, Donatello - he's the brains of the group. ... And Michelangelo - the youngest.

I started to laugh, my writing a little sloppy.

So I take it you're the only normal one?

Yeah, unless you talk to any other one of my family - they say I'm a teacher's pet.

Same here, I usually try and talk things out - thought it doesn't really work with my situation.

I can understand!

You took a break, watching the time and realizing that  parents were going to kill you if they found you out this late at night.

Hey Leo, it's getting late and I got class in the morning - can we talk later?

Yeah, patrol starts in a few minutes - I don't need Se- My dad on my sh- back. You get some sleep, (Y/n). Talk to you later.

You were curious about his "patrol"... What if he was late twenties?! What if your soulmate is some old police officer!? Your parents will definitely not be happy about dating a guy 12 years older than you are. Uuuugh, you need to sleep on this.

*In the SpongeBob SquarePants narrator voice* Twenty-four hours later~

You sprang out of bed, your phone blasting music off due to the alarm.

You grabbed said phone and checked the time - 7:30

"He is probably out of bed right?" You say to yourself, quickly changing into an outfit for the day.

Not caring for the wake-up procedure - you wrote a little note on your arm for him... Just in case he still was asleep.

Hey there, Leo. Not to wake you up or anything - (cuz I don't know what schedule you work with during the day) I just wanted to say good morning to you. PS: I don't know if you are into art or anything - but I tend to draw on myself pretty much all the time. I'm also taking Japanese - so I'll write poems when I get bored. Enjoy the surprises!

You pulled down the sleeve to your shirt overtop your arm and prepared to come down for breakfast.

(Leo's POV)

Ugh, why did the Purple Dragons have to be there last night... I was just in the middle of a conversation. Had they not been there - I would have been able to get to know her better.

Those jerks. They tried to mug an old guy near one of our main entrance alleyways. The nerve of those idiots. I crashed last night with a few bruises - and a couple of nicks on my arms and legs... I really hope nothing happened to (Y/n) - I mean, sure - she's miles, probably light-years away from here, but I can't help but feel like I have to protect her - She's my soulmate isn't she?

I want to meet her so badly - Donnie is convinced that both of our soulmates are in another dimension - one where we don't exist. Don has been working non-stop to get them here via some portal that the Professor had given him before he and our younger selves had blasted off. He's still tweaking the thing - but I can't wait to see her.

I woke up from my thoughts - due to the scribbling that was flowing over my arm like a wave.

She draws huh? Wait - does that mean...

(Flashback)

"Mikey! You better have a good explanation for all this!" I stated angrily, shoving my arm into the younger turtle's face.

"Bro! I didn't touch you! I was being Donnie's test subject again! Just ask him!" Mikey said, crossing his arms and giving a scowling frown.

"You're the only one who draws this type of stuff! And unless Raph's involved in this too, no one else writes Kanji like this!" I said, drawing attention to me.

And it seems like I just disturbed Sensei.... This won't be good.

"Leo! Show me your arm. If this is truly your brother's doing - then I will be able to tell." Master Splinter said, a cool, calculating tone rising above the rest of his other tones of voice.

I reluctantly extended my arm into his hand - and watched as he observed closely - reading the Kanji, and - smiled?!

He gave a chuckle, and dropped the arm.

"Fortunately for the both of you, none of you have done this. The writing style is different from any of you - and however close it is to Michelangelo's drawing form - this is much more....

Feminine."

"You're saying a girl did this!?" I shouted, a small blush creeping up to my cheeks.

"Indeed. I've heard of this situation before - both you and Donatello have the same symptoms..."

(Flashback End)

I ran off before he could finish... had I stayed, I would have been able to find out so much sooner...

I could have met her sooner, I could have brought her here sooner, everything would have happened sooner.

"She still may not like me once she sees me though," a small thought crept through my mind, " I'm a mutant turtle. Who in their right mind would love someone like me?"

She would.

She would love me.

If she's my soulmate, then she would understand what I am... and that I'm not a monster...

I went to the dojo for morning training... maybe Donnie finished the portal.

(Reader's POV)

You guess Leo had a pretty late night, last night. "I mean, if you have a patrol to do - and something does come up, then obviously it's gonna suck the energy right out of you." You thought.

"Okay class," the teacher said via microphone, "can someone please tell me the correct translation of this sentence?"

You've already finished this lesson a week ago... might as well go to your other source of entertainment - writing.

You picked up a fine-tip marker and began writing a poem in Kanji, if I was gonna learn - it was going to be my way.

あなたのための私の愛は無限です。

あなたに私の愛情に制限はありません。

私たちは離れた場所にいますが、

あなたに対する私の情熱は揺さぶられません。

(Translation:

Anata no tame no watashi no ai wa mugendesu. [My love for you is endless]

Anata ni watashi no aijō ni seigen wa arimasen. [There is no limit to my affection for you.

Watashitachiha hanareta basho ni imasuga, anata ni taisuru watashi no jōnetsu wa yusabura remasen. [And though we are in separate places, my passion for you will not falter])

I have no idea why I thought of this, but hey - it's sweet and thoughtful all at the same time. I wish I could see Leo, just once. I know very little about him, but at the same time I feel like I knew him for my entire life.

I imagine he would be ripped, I mean - what dream-guy wouldn't? His eyes: maybe a blue or brown - though I bet blue would look way better. He would definitely be taller than me - being the short-stack I am.

Would he like me? I mean, I'm not the ugliest girl - but I would definitely pick someone over me if it came to beauty and overall attractiveness. I'm more of a tomboy than a girly-girl... I hope I'm his type. It would suck if we turned out to just end up as friends. Or even worse - enemies.

School went by, and soon your day was cleared due to the lack of needing education for hours.

You ran up the stairs to your bedroom, shutting the door behind yourself, and pulled out a sharpie you had stashed in your back pocket from earlier this morning.

"At last - time to myself." You sighed, flopping onto a bed.

You laid there for a good half-hour just staring at the ceiling - thinking about Leo and other things.

Soon enough, you got tired of laying around and looked at the sharpie - you were bored, you like drawing, and your arm was empty to the degree of pure OCPD.

Heck with it - time for drawing.

You grabbed more markers and began drawing random lines and shapes - and it somehow turned into a turtle.

So turtles became the object - green turtles, baby turtles, turtles being on their backs.

An idea clicked in my mind after looking at several TMNT posters...

Ninja turtles.

Taking the posters as my muse, I quickly began a drawing of a turtle with a mask - you know, one of those ones with the tails that floated on the wind in the movies. But, black didn't suit the turtle...

Another brisk peek at the wall had me looking at the deep blue of the walls, reminding you of the water from Legend of Zelda games you used to play.

"One again, video games saved my butt." You whispered, adding the deep blue marker to the turtle.

It was perfect. And you know what - I'll name it Galileo.

Ga-lil-eo. Sounds good, rolls off the tongue.

Nice turtle (Y/n).

Holy shell, he saw all of that?! How did you not feel the marker?

You didn't happen to have read the poem... did you?

No, but thanks for the tip.

Shi~takki mushroom...

You decided to play it off cool, even if You're internally screaming.

Your welcome - hope you enjoy it 😁

You hope for your sake that he falls for the bluff. If you hear anything about it - well, someone is in critical danger of death by writing utensils being shoved up their rear end.

(Leo's POV)

After morning training and a quick breakfast - I went out to check up on Donnie's portal thing.

After hearing a welder and a few things clanging, I braved the lab.

"Hey, Don - you done with that thing yet?" I asked, watching him work.

"No, I still have to somehow connect the main electric circuits to the cryogenic converter - and then I have to test it..." Donnie ranted.

I understood nothing but "no".

"English Donnie."

"I need to make sure that the system won't overheat. Because this portal practically rips open a hole in dimensions, it requires a lot of energy to work. This liquid carbon tank," Donnie pointed out to the enormous cylinder beside him, "will cool down the system fast enough to keep this from becoming a fire hazard - but I have to be able to connect the electrical units to it without interfering with the other parts."

"Okay. You need me to get you anything? This is for the two of us anyway."

Donnie looked at me like I had a third eye.

"No Leo, this is not for us - this is for her, my soulmate."

"Wait, what?"

"This. Is. Just. For. Her." Donnie said, looking at me with dead-serious eyes.

"W-what about my own? What about her!" I strained, shielding my shock.

"If I'm able to bring my soulmate here successfully - I'll consider it."

I knew there was no point in trying to break him.

"Fine, I'll try my own thing 'til then. Thanks anyway Don." I said, heading to my room.

I had an itch to just throw something - but I need to keep my cool... at least for now.

I sat down on my mat and began counting as I sunk into meditation.

1,

2,

3,

4, for (y/n).

5, gotta find her.

6, I have to protect her.

7, I have to train harder.

8, I'll love her.

The list went on and on - everything lead to me thinking about her in some way.

Have I really become that desperate? After the fiasco with Karai... I needed to just keep an eye on the team.

I felt a tickling on my arm - (Y/n).

I immediately stopped my work - and watched a bunch of little turtle drawings appeared. (Y/n) did mention that she drew from time to time...

If only she knew how close she was to who she was a soulmate with...

Then - a few minutes later, one turtle stood out of the rest.

A blue masked turtle.

Mother of mutigen... did she know?!

I wrote underneath, pulling my mind from my thoughts.

Nice turtle, (Y/n).

It was a good 5 minutes before she wrote back - I think I caught her off guard.

You didn't happen to read the poem... did you?

A smile crawled up my face, so she wrote a poem, did she?

No, but thanks for the tip.

This is gonna be interesting.

Your welcome - hope you enjoy it 😁

Someone is trying to cover up her surprise...

I looked around my arm, l looking for words.

Right along my wrist in incredibly thin writing was Kanji...

My Japanese is pretty rusty...

I leaned in, looking over the two ornate rings of kanji on my wrist - and immediately blushed as deep as Raph's mask.

The words that were written at that moment sent my blood rushing through my nose.

"Whoever you are, (y/n)... You certainly have a way with words..."

(Reader's POV)
You had another call with (Bf/n), and so far she's been talking with him about some type of portal. She's been begging him for you to come with - either to prove your theory or just as a familiar face to tag along. You were determined to somehow find Leo, even if you did have to hitch a ride on an untested tear in dimensions.

"I don't care if he says no, (Y/n) - you're coming along and he better deal with it or I'll knock him down a few pegs." She said, stuffing a few chips in her mouth.

I laughed and smiled at her attitude, "You do that, (Bf/n). I'm sure he'd be head over heels for you and couldn't turn your requests down if he tried."

(Bf/n) scoffed, "Dang straight, Since I'm the better looking one of the relationship."

I smiled, laughing at her statement.

We continued to talk about what she'd wear, what she would recommend you wearing based off how Leo talks to me (Which, according to her, Is like a total Hotty - whatever that means...), and other things as well.

But soon enough, you fell asleep, and sleep claimed your mind.

(Leo's POV)

(2 days later)

I woke up early, the sound of Donnie half-screaming/half-whispering from the lab pulling me from my sleep.

I pulled on my mask and my belt, putting my Katana into the holsters. I gave a quick look to the door, hoping he know that he was going to end up waking Everyone up. Silently, I hurried to the lab.

I knocked on the door - hoping what I think happened, happened,"Donnie, did you finish the Portal?"

There was a small clatter of metal before the door to the lab unlocked and opened, revealing a very tired, but very happy Donatello.

"Yes! And any moment it will power up and I'll finally see her. But not exactly as this," He gestured to himself, "I have an invention that will make me appear human... but I only have one."

I looked at him, the excitement just radiating off of his form as he pressed a few buttons and both the watch and the portal flashed with light.

The watch had transformed Donnie into a lightly tanned human boy with collarbone-length dark brown hair tied back in a ponytail. He had a purple t-shirt on, and a pair of jeans and belt on as well. His shoes were sneakers.

He looked like a Human version of Donatello to the "t".

"Judging by the look on your face, I'd say I did an okay job." The now-human Donatello said, pressing a few more buttons on a keyboard to operate the portal. He quickly pulled out a small sharpie and - revealing the white part of his forearm - wrote a small scrawled message on his arm.

A few minutes later, He had apparently received an answering message, and started the final part of the machine before dusting himself off and shoving me out of the lab, leaving me to try and look through the small, blurry window on the door.

There was a flash, and out came a (bf h/c) Girl, Who had embraced Donnie like a long-lost friend.

But the machine did not turn off as another girl stepped out.

At that very moment, timed seemed to slow down to a stop. Her hair was a (h/c)... She wore it (hairstyle/down). Her outfit, go figure, was a deep blue tanktop covered in a jean jacket, a pair of dark, olive green jeans hugging her legs. And If her roughed up shoes said anything - She certainly wasn't a stereotypical barbie doll like April describes Normal girls.

Donnie had looked surprised, quickly turning off the portal after she had come out.

The girl and Donnie had talked for a few seconds, my brother pointing at the door I was currently behind. The girl nodded and took the same pen and scribbled something on her arm.

Lightning fast, a message appeared on my forearm.

Leo... I think my friend is your brother - Donatello's soulmate. He told me you were outside his lab... Co-  Can I come see you? Your brother explained that you have a - condition... but I promise to be open-minded about anything.

I panicked.

She was here.

In my home.

And she was about to meet him.

And I was completely unprepared.

I quickly cleaned up my arm of leftover sharpie and went into my room, searching for the sharpie I had earlier.

I sat on my bed, writing a simple sentence.

Are you sure?

Insecurity flooded over me, Would I be good enough for her? Would she accept me? Will she just run away?

Well, I came all this way - Might as well let you see my ugly mug 😅

I thought much less of that statement. But I wasn't going to disappoint her.

My room has a scroll of kanji on it. But don't say I didn't warn you, (Y/n).

I heard the lab door slam open, faint steps tapping against the floor as someone began what sounded like a frantic search.

Soon enough is stopped at the foot of my door, where I could see the shadow of a pair of combat boots.

(Y/n)...

She knocked,"L-Leo? Can I come in?"

Holy mother of mutigen, her voice sounded sweet.

I answered shortly, "Sure... I can't wait to see you."

A small giggle echoed outside my door.

She opened it, and he immediately looked away.

She looked shocked, but not scared.

She stuttered, "Y-you're a Turtle!"

The words stung me like thousands of tiny knives piercing my heart.

"I'm sorry I -"

She cut me off, a look of surprise still on her face, "Don't be. You look amazing. We don't have people like you back in my dimension. But I have a thing that looks like you as a poster on my wall."

Now I was shocked.

"You - You aren't scared?"

She smiled, "I was pretty surprised to see a walking, talking turtle - but no I was not afraid. Just because I'm from a mutant-less dimension, doesn't mean I haven't had my own share of outlandish things and people."

"You're completely fine with the fact that your soulmate is a freakish, green, scaly mutant turtle?"

She gestured to herself, "Well, I don't seem to be fainting or screaming - I would say so. I like your eyes, I've imagined you having deep-blue eyes."

I let out a shaky breath.

She wasn't screaming, there was no running away.

She said she was okay with this, okay with weird.

And she had admitted to imagining about what I would look like - and was partially right.

"Looks like those turtles I drew were pretty close to the real thing, huh? Who knew my soulmate would be so cool looking," She grinned.
