Okay, I just fucking realized that set it off used actual psychology study in their song 'If rather drown'...

It's an art form of consummate skill

Like Pavlov to the dogs

Pavlov was a physiologist but did some work in classical conditioning, which has ties to psychology. He did an experiment that includes a dog, a bell, and food. Dogs salivate when they see food, right? Pavlov saw this and created a  experiment. He would ring a bell when showing/feeding his dog food. As time went on, the dog would associate the ring of a bell with food. This caused the dog to salivate at the sound of the bell before he sees the food.
