Chapter 2
Ravenstrike's black pelt flashed through the undergrowth. His yellow eyes were hurt and his tail was fluffed out.
'Far away. I need to be far away from camp for awhile...'
Ravenstrike skidded to a stop near RushClan's border with an oak forest. A sigh escaped his mouth. Another day, another disappointed Dewfang. This time the black tom's mother had been disappointed in how his spar had gone.
Leaves rustled. Ravenstrike leaped backwards, black pelt bushed and claws unsheathed.
'Please be prey. Please be prey.'
A brown-gray pelt appeared. The tom's hazel eyes looked deep into Ravenstrike's yellow eyes. His pelt pricked with unease as the tom spoke.
"You look like a cat who's been scolded," the tom commented.
The black tom nodded, his bushy tail curling around his body. The brown-gray stranger looked him over again.
"Bet you want to change that?"
"More than anything!"
The brown-gray cat's face contorted to a smirk, uneasing Ravenstrike. He blinked slowly.
"What if I told you I could change that?"
Ravenstrike's yellow eyes lit up. He stood, pelt bushed in excitement.
The stranger continued, "There's only one condition."
The black tom tipped his head. "What?"
"See, I believe that your leader is unfit to leave. She's an abandoner, and I want to take her out so the Clan can thrive. All you need to do, is pledge your allegiance to Dust Whips."
Ravenstrike sat down again, his yellow eyes uncertain. His tail twitched as he tried to decide what to do.
'Isn't this treason? But, why would he lie about Heatherbreeze? He says she's an abandoner. What if she abandons the Clan!'
Ravenstrike looked into the brown-gray tom's hazel eyes. "I'll do it. What's your name though?"
"I'm Dust," the tom replied, his hazel eyes glowing with triumph.
