Deceitful Faces
I can't believe my eyes, it's really her. Tears start rushing out of my eyes, I'm so happy I think I'll forget to breathe.
Me – Mom?
She turns her head and gives a slight smile as if she's trying to comfort me; Telling me its okay to cry.
I run towards her and hug her tight, still crying like a two year old child. She keeps patting my back to calm me down.
Me- Mom, I missed you, I missed you so much! It was so hard to live without you.
She doesn't says anything, still patting my back. I'm still holding her tight, too scared to let go, Too afraid to lose her again. Everything slowly begins fading away...
Me – No mom! Don't go! Don't leave me alone here!
I try to keep holding onto her as her body begins to disintegrate into the light.
Me – Mom please! Stay! I'll be a good girl, I'll never talk back! , I'll listen to everything you say, I promise I'll be the best daughter in the world for you. So please don't leave me alone again. Please!
I'm frantically wrapping my arms around her as her frail body evanescing into thin air.
Mom- Take care of yourself my child. I'll always love you.
I keep pleading and begging her to stay as everything finally vanishes. I'm still sobbing, now standing in the nothingness.
It's all white, as far as my eyes can see. Nothing till the end of the horizon. Just white... A color which is formed by rejecting all the colors of the visible spectrum. A color without emotions...A color without purpose.
I wake up, sunlight piercing my gaze. There are tears falling from my eyes. I'm still half asleep, my eyes wandering around my room in hope to see her again. Refusing to believe it was just a dream, I search the entire apartment in hope to prove to myself that it was more than just a dream.
But sometimes, No matter how far you're willing to go, you can't fix the past. The only thing you can do is live knowing what has been done will never be undone no matter what you do.
The only way you can do move forward is to forget those memories, even if sometimes it means forgetting your own self; Your own existence. That sometimes we shouldn't regret loosing someone but be glad to have met them in the first place.
I hurriedly get dressed and leave for the Amusement park, taking the metro.
It's almost noon, guess this place really is quite far.
All this time I'm still thinking about the dream. Thinking about it now, I was never sad about the things that I couldn't do with mom since her death but rather, the things I could've done with her when she was alive. It's really strange how we don't appreciate most things in life till we're about to lose it or already lost it. But then again, If we truly began to appreciate all the things in our life; We'll be too satisfied to ever aspire something new, something better.
I finally get off the metro. Its already 1:30, guess I should hurry a bit if I want to return before it gets dark. I reach the park after a about an hour.
Wow, it really is abandoned. This place looks straight out of some horror movie. Too creepy to hang around for long. I walk around the shops and most of the rides and shops seems to be closed down and locked. Why would Mr. Samuel even come here? There's nothing out of ordinary it seems. I get in some of the rides which are easier to get into. I'm pretty sure I'm trespassing here but I very much doubt there's even a single person around to notice that. It's been about three freakin hours and I still don't even have a clue of what I'm searching for.
I give up! There's nothing here. It was just a wild goose chase afterall. I start walking back towards the entrance. It's getting dark. Suddenly one of the snack store catches my eyes. The sign is painted over. It says "Verum".I feel like I've heard this word before. Was it german for death? What I find interesting is that the lock seems to be new. If Mr. Samuel really came here, this has to be the place! Greatly pleased by my new found discovery I excitedly look for something to break the lock with. There's nothing here but small pebbles. I look around and there is nothing which could be used. If I remember correctly there were some boulders near the entrance. I rush there and find the only boulder light enough for anyone to carry. I pick it up and turn to go back to the store. Wait, what's this. There seems to be something stuck behind the boulder, It's a picture. It's Mr. Samuel! He's standing in front of a big and kind of old building with two kids, a boy and a girl. Hmmm, that's strange, all the articles I read said he never married, much less had kids. The picture seems to be really old and in black and white. Mr. Samuel seems to be happy but the kids have a rather strange expression of their face. I can't really describe it but it's really disturbing. I keep the photo in my back pocket and pick up the boulder again proceeding to break the lock. I land two solid hits on it before pausing to catch my breath. I should really exercise a bit more. I pick up the boulder again and as I am to land another hit, I hear something.
It's the entrance gate. Someone is opening it. I thought this was abandoned. Is it a security guard? No, it's someone else. I drop the boulder near the bushes and run to hide behind the stuff toys' counter. I hear a car approaching. I take a peek to see who it is.
The person comes out of the car, the headlights are still turned on making it harder to take a look at the face. It seems like there's no one else in the car. I should really get out of here. He seems to be searching for something. He is carrying a flash light and a wrench.
I'm getting nervous, I start shaking. My heartbeat is racing. My shirt's already drenched in sweat. I keep my hand over my mouth to make sure I don't make any noise. He starts breaking all the doors. It's just a matter of time before he comes here. I hear a strange noise. I decide to take another peek. It looks like he is talking on the phone. This is my chance! I take this shot and run towards the entrance. He notices me.
Him- Hey you! Stop!
I keep running but it's too dark to see the path. He is chasing after me. I'm running with all might but he seems to be catching up. I can see it! I see the entrance! If only I can make it out where there are people, he'll have to back down. I run even faster, feels like my legs will tear off any moment. I manage to leave the park but he seems to be closing in. I feel a sense of relieve thinking he won't chase me in the public, all of the sudden it comes back to me. The park is situated on an isolated hill. It took me half an hour to walk all the way here from the town. It's all over, I start slowing down; There's no way I can outrun this guy for that long. I can see him coming closer. It's no use now, I have no chance to escape him. I turn around and wait for him to catch me. We're finally face to face, He drops his flashlight on the ground and tightens his grip on the wrench. He's slowly approaching me...All my memories flashing before my eyes! Sorry dad, sorry Tyler, I'm really sorry for keeping things from you Leah,...Sorry...mom. I close my eyes expecting his blow. Suddenly, there's a loud noise roaring through the forest.
It's a familiar sound, It's a wolf! He is way too startled by the howl.
This sounds is somehow comforting for me, It lifts up my morale as I decide to run once again. I lift the flashlight off the ground and start running again.
It takes him a few seconds to regain his composure. These precious seconds are enough for me to gain a lead. I look back after gaining some distance, He isn't following me anymore. He is just looking around.
Ha! Looks like he's panicking without the flashlight! I find a new strength as I run faster through the forest and reach the road. I need to keep running! He might still decide to follow me. I look around to find some lift but there's no one around. I keep walking towards the city too tired to run.
It's already been over ten minutes since I reached the road. There's light coming from behind me, it's a car! Finally someone I can ask for a lift. The car slows down and stops before I even raise my hand to signal it.
Driver – Get in.
Me – thanks a lot sir.
I feel relaxed as I get in the front seat. Now that I think about it, doesn't this road ends at the park? Is this guy coming from there too? Could it be? No, It possibly couldn't, right?
Driver – I did warn you not to come here didn't I?
The door locks automatically, and I finally manage to see his face. It's him...Dr.Morphis.
